  • Hello, Jennifer.

  • From Charles Speech with your 24 Tuesday.

  • Actually, this is one of those special days where On your two for Tuesday You get three words because we focus on words that are pronounced the same but spelled differently with different meanings.

  • Our words today are medal and award metal, a strong, solid material and metal to interfere.

  • We have two syllables today, so let's start with syllable one.

  • Med spelling confuses people, especially with that tea, because they'll say metal.

  • That's fine.

  • People are going to understand you.

  • But if you do want to sound ah, little more native, you can try it like this with that d sound.

  • Yes, this d sound is a flap T, but I really believe just try not to get too fancy.

  • Um, just think about it as a D.

  • And that makes it fairly easy.

  • Okay, so we're going to start with the open that mouth in and go to the, uh to say this f sound your tongue is going to be in the middle of your mouth is going to be flat, and your lips are going to be relaxed, then end with that D by quickly touching the back of your top front teeth and pulling that tongue down while the voice back box is on Med Med Med.

  • Then we're just going to then pull the tongue back up to add that l sound, and we don't want to add another vowel.

  • So we're going to say Med ole, metal, metal, metal, metal.

  • I teach this without thinking about a vowel sound.

  • Yes, there is a slight something in there, but when people try to make a vowel sound, they often over pronounce it.

  • And then the word sounds incorrect, and it might sound something like Med all.

  • And that's not it.

  • It's metal, metal, metal.

  • All right, let's try a sentence.

  • The gold medal is made of another medal.

  • The gold medal is made of another medal and send us number two.

  • Don't meddle with the medal winners.

  • Don't meddle with the medal winners.

  • Give it a try.

  • People are going to notice the difference.

  • If you found this helpful, we love alike and share.
