  • The US government has three branches.

  • The executive, the judiciary and the Legislature.

  • The Legislature is also called Congress.

  • Congress Makes federal laws.

  • These are laws that everyone in the United States must follow.

  • Congress has other important powers to it.

  • Can raise money, spell money and borrow money.

  • It approves Supreme Court justices.

  • It can impeach and remove the president, and it can declare war.

  • Even though Congress is one thing.

  • It is made of two parts the House of Representatives and the Senate.

  • Members of Congress meet in the Capitol building in Washington, D.

  • C.

  • But there are a lot more House members than senators.

  • That is because voters in every state elect only two senators and as many House members as the state's population allows.

  • For example, California, the most populous state, has 53 House members.

  • Wyoming, the least populous state, has won in total.

  • Congress is currently 535 voting members.
