  • the Knicks parting ways with Steve Mills two days before the trade deadline.

  • So Knicks, by the way, right?

  • I guess they're not gonna be active.

  • The trade deadline.

  • And I imagine that kind of puts pause on some of your plans that you might have had their.

  • But the biggest acquisition the Knicks could make would be to get their front office right.

  • And as you pointed out, Mike, the target for now seems to be Toronto Raptors.

  • GM Masai Use Eerie.

  • Now this dude is about as good as it gets in the n b A.

  • I've been a massive fan of Messiah.

  • You sat down with me and Will Cain show and look what he's done.

  • It takes big Kony's to do what he did in bringing in CO.

  • I, Leonard sending away a certain winner in DEMAR DeRozan that you knew you'd get to a certain level with risky at all.

  • And by the way, it paying off And now look at him this year they're what they're second in the east.

  • They the a team built around Pascal siac Um who is all of a sudden Really The point I'm getting at is usurious about as good as it gets us is not.

  • Can the Knicks get get him?

  • Well, are you willing to pay what you need to?

  • And that's usually the cost of this right?

  • That's exactly what we dealt with Mookie Betts.

  • The Red Sox were not willing to pay that future price on him.

  • And so now for the Knicks, I'm not inclined to think because of who ownership is like.

  • Remember, Messiah Jury was also a guy that was covered in D.

  • C.

  • Who was offered ownership stake in D.

  • C, reportedly in a lot of that and control of basketball operations, and turned that down to stay where he is.

  • And again, this is the ever present specter of Do you also want to go work for the Knicks knowing that James Dolan is an owner who exercises a lot of control and who is going to be someone looking over the shoulder of every decision you make?

  • And I think we've seen time and time again that unless you're someone who's looking for an opportunity, who doesn't have the advantage of being wanted the way messiahs, I don't think you tend to take that option and it doesn't look like the Knicks are willing to go in force their hand in any meaning.

  • Obviously, the suicide to the senior Juries contact contract runs through next season as well.

  • So if you want him now, there'd be the compensation we're talking about and they don't want to pay the compensation.

  • Okay, then you're not going to get him, then the other side.

  • I guess the other side of this to will is Who would want to go there?

  • I mean, I get It's Madison Square Garden.

  • It's the Knicks.

  • It's a thought.

  • Can I turn that program around?

  • But if you're a successful GM, what God's green earth that I'm saying it would make you want to go to work for the Knicks, an awful organization that is overseeing by an owner who people make comparisons.

  • T Jerry Jones.

  • But I were talking before the show.

  • I agree.

  • It's a Jerry Jones of yesteryear, not so much now, because I think Stephen Jones is more involved than I think that that's helping Jerry.

  • What is more guilty of now, in my opinion, is kind of undercutting us.

  • Undercutting is coached by talking is exactly right.

  • That does that, too, much.

  • But I mean, you know, for Dolan, leaving the Rangers alone, right?

  • And but being very involved in the Knicks, unfortunately, we see the outcome.

  • Just look at the record and just look what this team has done.

  • So why would you want if you're successful?

  • You know what everybody says that draw.

  • It's the Knicks.

  • It's still it's, Ah, horribly run organization right now that that's a fact, you can't deny that.

  • So what would make you want to go there if you have other choices?

  • New York City and I get it.

  • I get there is a always a draw to the big city.

  • But I mean, at some point, you do have to say, OK, the pros and cons.

  • I'm sorry.

  • The cons is a hell of a lot longer.

  • Listen, the pros well, I would say two things.

  • There is a tendency of people in New York to think the world ends at the Hudson.

  • I live in New York.

  • It doesn't, but still it is the Rome of today's Italy.

  • It is the Rome of this United States of America.

  • It's New York City.

  • The problem basketball is there's been other options to your point Mike.

  • We saw Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant make a decision to come to New York City and find a better, well run organization.

  • However, ESPN MBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski says the Knicks are still attractive as a destination.

  • Executives know if you can put the infrastructure in place and build an organization the way Sean marks that in Brooklyn Away Lawrence, Frank and Mike Winger did with the Clippers and these markets, you are going to get elite players.

  • New York has not been able to build Scott that foundation, that a star player comes in and says, Plug me in and we have a contender They're not coming into essentially, what's an empty house?

  • In theory, it would appeal to me guys like, if I was Kevin Durant.

  • Yeah, look, if I were Kevin Durant or I were a big time executive, I would want to be the guy that rebuilt the Knicks.

  • But I get what you're saying, Mike.

  • The problem is, is it possible?

  • Is it possible to go back to you and say, Why?

  • Why would you want to be the one to rebuild the Knicks when you're successful and could be winning championships somewhere else.

  • Well, but I think the point that will made there in the point that we heard woes made is probably think about what it took.

  • The circumstances that it took to get Kawhi Leonard to there.

  • And then when you got him there, it was understood the entire time.

  • I am Onley staying one year.

  • I'm not staying here any longer than I'm have to.

  • I have serving my time, and then I am gone with that show.

  • Usually has his risk.

  • Tolerance.

  • Yes, that's a guy who's willing to risk it all and go for it.

  • Exactly.

  • Risk tolerance.

  • But also to the point of, I could go to a place where just geographically alone, I'm gonna have a much easier time.

  • Bring those guys along because before that, he had built a very good team, but one that we knew wasn't going to break through a ceiling built of something more powerful built of the free agent that we're going to allude him were it not for that special set of circumstances.

  • And I think what you just said kind of makes my point.

  • Messiah.

  • Jerry went for it, all right?

  • Yes.

  • And what of the Knicks not willing to do to get him go fertile.

  • And they're not going to get God's willing draft pick like first round draft.

  • They're not willing to go get what deemed the best guy out there because of what he's working with.

  • They're not willing to do what it takes to get them, which has been the story of their life.

  • They're not willing to do it.

  • And then there so bad that nobody has come in there.

  • Everybody thought, going all the way back to the the Phil Jackson thing that he was going to make.

  • Have all of these regions come there.

  • It hasn't worked players.

  • Top players don't want to go play there.

  • If you want to get Messiah Jerry to maybe that linchpin to bring him there, then go get him.

  • Do what it takes to go get the guy.

  • Don't say we want this guy bad, but we're not willing to really do a whole lot what we need to do together.

  • Well, the thought process is also what else could potentially be out there like you're not just, you know, you're not just going after one guy, potentially.

  • We talked about Daryl Morey who could no longer be with Rockets sooner than later.

  • And all this one.

  • Sam Presti, is a guy that I think Bobby Marks brought up yesterday as a name in all of this R.

  • C.

  • Buford.

  • I get all that, and those are fine gm, so I get all that.

  • But all the reports say that Dolan wants you.

  • Jerry, if he's your guy, if you want to go for thing.

  • Is this DEA Daniel Jones mantra where if you if he's your guy, go up and get him no matter what, Because there are other teams out there agree with you.

  • There are other on grounds that you thin theory.

  • You wouldn't have to pay as much for a conversation.

  • But if you believe you, Jerry is the guy that can reboot the Knicks.

  • Pay it.

  • I'm with senior.

  • You pay what you have to pay.

  • What's up?

  • Thank you so much for watching ESPN on YouTube.
