  • Nick.

  • It's been a hell of a run to where you were to champion now.

  • And how has that been feeling?

  • Uh, pretty wild, to be honest with.

  • It feels good, you know, proud of proud of the players, happy for them especially.

  • And then all the all the wild, crazy fans we got.

  • Man appear in Toronto in Canada are having a along party about this championship.

  • So it's been good Great to talk to you guys when coach did it really kind of sink in for you, Watching the celebration and everything went for you personally didn't really sink in.

  • Uh, probably probably a day after the parade.

  • Mike, I think, uh, again when you're in the middle of it all, you just kind of trying toe do what you gotta do with and all that kind of stuff.

  • And, uh, I recorded the parade the next day, watched it and just see in some of the aerial shots of, of all the people and all that stuff was really it was really something for me to look at Talking to Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse nb a champion with us in the Shell Pennzoil performance line coach.

  • I gotta ask.

  • It was you know, the story of the whole postseason and obviously will continue into the off season.

  • How much contact have you had with Drake since the championship?

  • My contact.

  • We actually mean physical contact, maybe more shoulder.

  • Uh, just a little bit.

  • I haven't had any shoulder rubs.

  • I was I was thinking about calling him out for one day at the parade, but I was didn't quite didn't quite get to that, um, big fan is good.

  • We thought we saw him.

  • Obviously.

  • You guys probably heard we went toe Las Vegas and he threw a big party in Vegas for the team after afterwards.

  • And I got to spend a little bit of time with him there, But not too much.

  • Not too much.

  • Yeah.

  • I feel like he could probably do whatever he wants in Vegas.

  • As Nick Nurse, the Raptors head coach joins us now, you could probably do whatever he wants in the city of Toronto when all of Canada, after delivering the first championship to that city and the first MBA title to all of Canada.

  • So you know, we always sort of have fun, Nick, with your coaching resume and all the places you went.

  • I'm just curious that any point during the journey up till now whether it was with the Brighton Bears of the Grande Valley Vipers are the Birmingham Bullets.

  • Did you ever think, man, this is gonna end with me holding the Larry O'Brien?

  • Um, I don't know if I ever thought of thought it would happen, you know?

  • Probably probably.

  • Ah, hope it would happen or dreamed about it someday.

  • You know, I told this couple of times when I was coaching at Grandview College in Des Moines, Iowa, I I used Teoh about a five hour drive over to the over to watch the Bulls play in Chicago.

  • And I'd get my car and drive over there a lot when they were making the run and went to the finals games a couple times.

  • I just buy a standing room only ticket out there from a scalper and get in the door.

  • You know, when you're seeing that happen in your young coach, you're you're dreaming about man, this would be so awesome to be a part of this someday.

  • And, um, no, I guess I guess we are.

  • What do you say to those?

  • Because it will be those that ask it that, uh, you know of Golden State was healthy.

  • They probably would have beat you guys.

  • What do you say to those people?

  • Well, that may be the case, Mike.

  • I mean, uh, you know, we can only line up and play who we had to play.

  • And first of all, it was a hell of a Syrian man.

  • I think I think, for basketball in general, both teams were the speed paints, the intensity, the guts.

  • Both teams were showing that just wanting to win so badly I thought was awesome.

  • Um, but, you know, you can't if some butts, right?

  • If they, you know, maybe maybe we can figure out how to beat it.

  • Anyway, Maybe we can, I don't know, but well, we could do is line up and play.

  • Who was out there?

  • Nick Nurse with us on the shell Pennzoil Performance line.

  • One of the guys you had out there obviously was Kawai Leonard, who had one of the more unbelievable postseason runs that we've seen.

  • Have you had conversations with him since the championship game about his future?

  • Since we know that's one of the big things coming up next.

  • I have not, Uh, that's just around the corner, obviously.

  • Ah, 10 short days away.

  • So we're obviously gonna be meeting with them as soon as the pretty agency window opens up here in 10 days.

  • I mean, and you know, by the way, you're allowed to talk about him since he is on a contract with us.

  • So no worry about find here, which is a good thing.

  • Um, it is like Doc Clippers, Dude.

  • I mean, are you going to try?

  • Are you going to try and sell this or is what happened to your team really sell enough?

  • Well, I mean, I think obviously he was unbelievable.

  • And everybody wants him to come back and yeah, I mean, there's there's anything you need to go over, you know?

  • You know, from my standpoint, I just I just worry about the basketball side and and, um, you know, talk to him about anything and everything related to basketball and answer any questions or thoughts or visions that he has.

  • You know, basketball, Waas, do you get I mean, I know this is a hard thing to answer, but did you get it.

  • Do you have a sensor?

  • A feel one way, the other from spending all that time with him?

  • Or is he Is he the mystery we all believe he is, Um, you know, from that standpoint, it's probably a bit of a mystery.

  • I just never really talked to him about it.

  • Ever know?

  • I know I never addressed it.

  • We never, ever even went close to going down that road at all.

  • It was all about Let's try to win the next game and let's try to see you know how much better our team can get.

  • And he he takes that really seriously.

  • Manny.

  • Only other conversations I had to when we're really early on and just trying to figure out who he was and what his goals as a basketball player and as a person were.

  • And he always just said, basketball wise.

  • Listen, I want toe the healthy and play a long time.

  • I really love the game and I'm all about winning.

  • I just want I just want to play a long time and I want to win.

  • And he never, ever talked about individual gold, never even wanted to go there.

  • Um he just He just always said those two things help, help and win, man and that's it's pretty cool have that mindset and it's what a mindset he has.

  • I mean, he's just unflappable, just just no highs or lows and just really, really cares about his teammates and really cares about winning.

  • It was really It's really something toe.

  • Have a guy like that on your team.

Nick.
