  • Hello Eat Sleep Dreamers, welcome to a really special lesson because today I'm joined by

  • Urara. Hi Tom. Hello Urara. So Urara has come to London and we're having a picnic in central

  • London and she is very bravely agreed to try some British snacks. So I have a few British

  • snacks that I'd like her to try and hopefully she'll like them. I hate it! Yeah, maybe!

  • We'll see!

  • Ok, we're starting with the first British snack which is a Cornish Pasty. Now a Cornish

  • Pasty, it's like a pie. Yeah? Is this a meat pie? A meat pie, yeah. It's a meat pie and

  • it's got potato in as well and some vegetables. And it's put in a sort of puff pastry. And

  • traditionally it's from Cornwall which is an area of England and it was traditionally

  • for workers. So they'd put their meal in this pie and they'd take it off to work. And I

  • guess we've continued to eat them as a snack now. So it's maybe not a main meal but it's

  • a snack. If you are feeling hungry. So it's a savoury flavour and hopefully a delicious

  • one.

  • Ok, alright? Usually they are hot. We don't have an oven in the park so we're just going

  • to have it cold. Basically this is a meat pie, right? Essentially this is a meat pie,

  • yeah. You are absolutely right. Let's try it. Do I have to eat all? No? No, you can

  • eat as much or as little as you want. Ok, I'll try it. Meat pie! Meat pie, it's a meat

  • pie, isn't it? Is it a good meat pie? Good meat pie! Yeah? Fantastic, yeah there's a

  • lot of pastry. Pastry and the taste is black pepper. Yeah. Very strong black pepper. Yeah,

  • I guess an adjective we could use is like 'peppery', very peppery. Peppery? Yeah peppery.

  • It's really filling so like it's really good if you are going like for a walk or something

  • like that you can take one of these and yeah you won't feel hungry. Yeah, that's good!

  • Alright, yes!

  • Ok, next one is a scotch egg. A scotch egg. Again it's a bit like the Cornish Pasty, it's

  • like picnic food. We have it for picnics and what we have is like a hard boiled egg, then

  • we have meat around it and then it's fried. So you have breadcrumbs around it. And yeah

  • it's a snack, it's like a really common snack. And there is an egg inside? There's an egg

  • inside yeah. Do you like eggs? Yes, I like. Ok, we're ok. Do we need an oven? Yeah, again.

  • Again! Yeah, we don't have an oven. Ok. We'd probably heat it up but you can have it cold

  • as well. It's totally normal. Wow! There is a whole egg. There is a whole egg. Like this.

  • Yeah. There is a whole egg in there. Is that strange? Yeah, it's really strange. It's like

  • it's hiding, right? OK, I'll try it, I'm hungry. It

  • seems like she likes it. Let's see. Almost all egg. Yeah, and then you've got the meat

  • around it and then the breadcrumbs. Oh, is that the meat? Yeah, so that's the meat and

  • then yeah the breadcrumbs and then it's fried. Yeah, it's ok? Yeah it's good. Again, savoury

  • right? It's a savoury snack. Savoury snack and the one is enough for me. Yeah, definitely.

  • I don't think you need more than one.

  • Alright, I'm excited about this one, this one is the big one. Urara is going to try

  • Marmite! Marmite! It's not marmalade? Not marmalade, no. Marmalade is like a jam, Marmite,

  • this is yeast extract. It's kind of a chocolate. No, it's not like chocolate. It's not like

  • anything. It's not chocolate taste? No, it looks like chocolate, right? Or sauce? Yeah,

  • it's a spread. We call it a spread. So it's something you put on bread, toast or something

  • like that. It's like nothing you've ever tried before. Do you like it? Ok, so. You don't

  • like it but you recommend it for me? Yeah, a little bit. Oh my god! I'm sorry. Because

  • you have to try it, it's so British. so in the advertising they say you either love it

  • or you hate it. It's like there's no one in between. No one is like 'It's ok' its like

  • you either love it or. And you hate it right? Kind of hate it. I'm trying to love it, I'm

  • trying to teach myself to love it but no it's. And is it good for health? Yeah, it's good

  • for health. And then I will try it. It's good for health yeah yeah. So I'm going to put

  • it on some, a little bit of bread. I guess this, it tastes sour. Ok, sour? Ok, good guess.

  • But definitely not chocolate. Wow! Ok, so I'm going to put it on a little bit of bread

  • for you. And a drop, no? I'm going to give you. Looks sweet but I think it tastes sour.

  • There you go that's yours. And you also try it, now you should. Oh my god! No smell! There

  • is a smell. How do you say what's this? Like a sauce. You have to eat the whole thing.

  • Eat the whole thing. I don't like this, what's this? You don't like it? Yeah, but the taste

  • is like soy bean, soy sauce! Soy sauce, ok yeah, ok a little bit like soy sauce. But

  • you didn't try, come on! You only tried a little bit, come on you have to have that.

  • You mean with the bread? I think with the bread, yeah that would change. Change! Are

  • you sure? I don't think so. Ok, alright. You did well, you did really well. I hate it!

  • Really? Is it that bad? I don't like it. No. Alright, I'll finish it off. It's horrible.

  • Yeah i need some water to clear it. Yes, I think so. Oh my God!

  • Alright, so to finish off we've gone with, this is a childhood favourite of mine. So

  • at every children's party you would always have Jammie Dodgers. They are just sugar,

  • it's sweet, it's got little bits of jam in the middle, you can't not like this. This

  • is my childhood. I'm sure I will love it. Yeah, I'm sure you will. And to help you I

  • will also try one as well. I have to, you know, just to help you, not because I love

  • them. Oh you love it? I love them. Yes? Me too! I hope so. Alright, you go first. Yes.

  • Yummy! Yummy? Definitely. Yes, I love this. Yeah, so it's short cake biscuit with raspberry

  • jam in the middle in the shape of a little heart. And yeah as I say, as kids you have

  • it at every birthday party. You'll always have jammie dodgers. But do you have a lot

  • of kinds of jams or only this jam? I think you can get other ones but, I think so, but

  • this is the classic one. This is like the one I remember as a child is raspberry jam.

  • Maybe we could put Marmite in there. No! Please! I don't like that. Alright Urara, you've been

  • super brave. You've tried four different British snacks. Which was your favourite? Honestly,

  • today's my favourite is this one the dodgers. The jammie dodgers. But if I have an oven

  • I think I like the scotch egg and the pie as well. Ok, so if I had heated those up you

  • would have liked those. Yeah but I'll never think about that again. The Marmite. But you

  • can tell your friend Ive tried Marmite. There's this crazy foo in Britain called Marmite.

  • And it's really brave, right? Yeah, extremely brave to try Marmite. Especially once you

  • smelled it and you are like 'oh my Lord, what is this?' Anyway thank you very much for trying

  • British snacks. Thank you very much. And if you guys enjoyed that then let me know in

  • the comments below. Let us know which one you would like to try, ok? Check in the comments

  • below. Maybe this one! Maybe this one! You try it! Alright guys thank you so much for

  • watching, this is Tom and Urara in London saying goodbye. Bye Bye.
