WHEN YOU'RE IN THE PATIENT CLINIC, THERE IS PROTOCOL FOR PLACING AND REMOVING P.P.E. P.P.E. IS YOUR PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT. LET'S GO THROUGH THE STEPS. THE FIRST STEP IS PUTTING ON YOUR P.P.E. FOR STUDENTS, THE FIRST THING YOU'LL PUT ON IS AN OVERGOWN. INSTRUCTORS WILL WEAR A WHITE CLINIC COAT. NEXT, PUT ON YOUR SAFETY GLASSES AND MASK. PERFORM HAND HYGIENE BEFORE PUTTING ON YOUR GLOVES. WASH YOUR HANDS WITH SOAP AND WATER. IF YOU HAVE ANY JEWELRY, BE SURE TO TAKE IT OFF. HOWEVER, YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE OFF ENGAGEMENT OR WEDDING RINGS. ONCE YOU'VE FINISHED HAND HYGIENE, YOU'RE OKAY TO PUT ON YOUR TREATMENT GLOVES. IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT NOT TO TOUCH YOUR HAIR, YOUR PATIENT'S CHART, OR ANY OTHER EXTRANEOUS ITEMS ONCE YOU'VE PUT YOUR TREATMENT GLOVES ON. HERE'S HOW TO PROPERLY REMOVE YOUR P.P.E. WHEN REMOVING YOUR P.P.E., YOU HAVE TWO OPTIONS. THE FIRST OPTION IS TO FIRST TAKE YOUR GLOVES OFF. TO DO THIS BY GRASPING THE CUFF WITHOUT TOUCHING ANY OF THE CONTAMINATED SURFACES OF THE GLOVES, AND PULLING THEM INSIDE OUT. THEN, REMOVE YOUR MASK BY THE EAR LOOP OR THE ELASTIC TIES. THIS ALLOWS YOU TO AVOID TOUCHING THE CONTAMINATED PORTION OF THE MASK. LASTLY, REMOVE YOUR SAFETY GLASSES BY GRASPING THE TEMPLE PORTION OF THE FRAME. PLACE THEM ON A PAPER TOWEL FOR WASHING LATER, AND THEN WASH YOUR HANDS. THE SECOND OPTION IS TO FIRST REMOVE YOUR SAFETY GLASSES AND PLACE THEM ON A PAPER TOWEL FOR WASHING LATER. THEN, REMOVE YOUR GLOVES BY GRASPING THE CUFF AND PULLING THEM INSIDE OUT. LASTLY, REMOVE YOUR MASK BY THE ELASTIC TIES OR EAR LOOPS AND THEN WASH YOUR HANDS. IF IT'S NECESSARY TO LEAVE THE CLINIC AREA DURING PATIENT TREATMENT, THIS FOLLOWING PROTOCOL SHOULD BE FOLLOWED. FIRST, REMOVE YOUR P.P.E., FOLLOWING THE SAME STEPS WE JUST TALKED ABOUT. NEXT, STUDENTS SHOULD REMOVE THEIR OVERGOWN AND FACULTY SHOULD REMOVE THEIR CLINIC COAT. STUDENTS CAN HANG THEIR OVERGOWN ON THE HOOK LOCATED IN THEIR OPERATORY. FACULTY CAN HANG THEIR CLINIC COAT OUTSIDE OF THE RECEPTIONIST OFFICE OR IN THE FACULTY LOCKER ROOM. IF GOING TO THE RADIOGRAPHY SUITE, YOUR MASK AND GLOVES SHOULD BE REMOVED. CLEAN GLOVES WILL BE AVAILABLE WHEN YOU GET TO RADIOGRAPHY. STUDENTS, YOU MAY NEED TO LEAVE YOUR OPERATORY TO TALK WITH YOUR INSTRUCTOR OR GET SUPPLIES FROM CENTRAL STERILIZATION. IF THIS HAPPENS, YOU NEED TO WEAR OVERGLOVES OVER YOUR PATIENT TREATMENT GLOVES. ONCE YOU'RE BACK TO PATIENT TREATMENT, BE SURE TO PUT YOUR MASK ON. THEN, WASH YOUR HANDS OR USE SANITIZER AND DON NEW GLOVES IF NECESSARY. HERE'S A COUPLE THINGS TO REMEMBER... LET'S SAY YOU NEED TO REMOVE YOUR MASK TO TALK TO A PATIENT OR TO LEAVE THE IMMEDIATE AREA. REMOVE YOUR GLOVES, COMPLETELY REMOVE YOUR MASK, AND PLACE YOUR MASK ON THE PAPER TOWEL ON THE COUNTER. THIS PART IS CRUCIAL. DO NOT WEAR YOUR MASK AROUND YOUR NECK OR UNDER YOUR CHIN AT ANY TIME. FACULTY, LET'S SAY YOUR MASK IS NOT VISIBLY SOILED OR CONTAMINATED BY AEROSOLS. YOU MAY LAY IT DOWN ON A CLEAN PAPER TOWEL FOR USE LATER DURING THAT CLINIC. IF YOUR MASK IS VISIBLY SOILED, REPLACE IT WITH A CLEAN MASK. ALSO, WHEN LEAVING THE STUDENTS' OPERATORY, ALWAYS DISCARD CONTAMINATED TREATMENT GLOVES. THEN, DON NEW GLOVES WHEN RETURNING. THAT COVERS OUR PROTOCOL WHILE USING P.P.E. THANKS FOR WATCHING, AND STAY SAFE. SO IN REVIEW, WHEN PLACING P.P.E., IT'S SAFETY GLASSES, MASK, THEN GLOVES. REMEMBER, DON'T TOUCH YOUR HAIR, PATIENT'S CHART, OR ANY EXTRANEOUS ITEMS WITH PATIENT TREATMENT GLOVES ON. DON'T WEAR YOUR MASK AROUND YOUR NECK OR UNDER YOUR CHIN. ALWAYS DON OVERGLOVES OR REMOVE PATIENT TREATMENT GLOVES WHEN LEAVING YOUR OPERATORY.
