  • -Ryan Reynolds, it's great to see you, pal.

  • You look good. -Nice to see you, my friend.

  • -Are those earbuds, or is there blood coming out of your ears?

  • -No, no, these are earbuds.

  • These were a gift I got on the movie I was doing,

  • which was shut down halfway through.

  • -Is this the one with The Rock? -Yes, it is, yeah.

  • -I'm sorry about that. What was that called?

  • -It's called "Red Notice." "Red Notice."

  • And, yeah, we made it about --

  • I'd say like one or two days past the halfway point mark.

  • It was really close to --

  • Yeah, we were just over the halfway point mark.

  • We probably would've made it, I'm guessing --

  • We might've finished the movie

  • if we didn't spend 90% of our time dicking around, laughing.

  • -[ Laughing ]

  • -I've known Dwayne for like 15 years,

  • so we tend to spend time trying to make each other laugh.

  • Which is a really irresponsible thing to do

  • with Netflix, their money. But you know...

  • It makes for a good movie in the end

  • once you get take 28 down and in the can.

  • You're set, right? -I can't come back --

  • -Once I'm going, I can't come back.

  • I start laughing, and there's no -- I don't return.

  • I have to take an hour off. -Yeah, ditto.

  • And then it's like a compound problem, right?

  • Now the pressure's on to not laugh.

  • -It's a workout.

  • -Yeah, usually, I seriously hurt myself.

  • Like, I'll punch my -- Charley-horse myself

  • as hard as I possibly can.

  • Maybe like a tiny stab wound in a non-vital organ area,

  • just to try to keep it together.

  • -What does he laugh at? What makes him break?

  • -Well, yeah, he's -- I think one of the reasons

  • I've been friends with him for a long time is that

  • he really laughs at himself,

  • which is one of the things I love about him.

  • So if you kind of parrot back

  • his thing that he's doing in the movie --

  • Like, if his line is like, "I'm special agent John Harvey

  • of the FBI," and if you parrot it back,

  • just 27% faster with a swear word, like,

  • "I'm special agent John Harvey of the FBI, mother [bleep],"

  • he just, like -- he's gone.

  • He leaves the room, and he never comes back.

  • And it's great. You know, and it's a fun movie.

  • He plays a totally normal-sized FBI agent.

  • And I play a con artist

  • who happens to be bathed in expert lighting.

  • And then there's Gal Gadot who plays a --

  • sort of a mystery figure in the movie

  • that I don't want to give away, and she's amazing, as well.

  • And that was sort of it. I was sold. That was it, yeah.

  • -And that's "Red Notice." Do we know when --

  • I guess as soon as quarantine's over, you'll...

  • When it's safe. -I'm assuming, yeah.

  • I think we're gonna be right back into it, yeah.

  • -Where are you in quarantine? Who are you quarantined with?

  • -I'm quarantined with my family,

  • with Blake and our three daughters

  • and my mother-in-law, as well.

  • You know, I know, it's the best.

  • It's one of those things where it's a split-second decision.

  • Right? You're thinking like,

  • "Oh, yeah, we've all got to quarantine together."

  • But you're thinking, "Oh, this is gonna be a few days."

  • So you gotta be careful.

  • At least I like the people I'm quarantined --

  • I love them -- that I'm quarantining with.

  • It was a toss-up for a minute there.

  • Should I quarantine with my publicly facing family

  • or my secret family in Denmark?

  • It was a real toss-up. -[ Laughs ]

  • -Oh, of course. That must've been hard on you.

  • -I miss Luna, Lekhet, and Uhn very much so.

  • -I love Uhn. Give my best to Uhn.

  • -Una is so sweet, yeah. -Of course.

  • -So you went with the Hollywood family.

  • -Yeah, went with the Hollywood family.

  • And it's been great.

  • It's a decision I don't regret at all.

  • It's been fun. Yeah, we've been --

  • -Are the kids appreciating it?

  • I know you and Blake, I've seen you guys, obviously,

  • a bunch of times, but you guys are perfect together.

  • But are the kids happy to have you around all the time?

  • -Frankly, I think it sets a dangerous precedent, Jimmy.

  • You know, I think when we look back at this thing

  • years from now, they're gonna think about me

  • and how I used to be a present dad.

  • And I worry about that. I worry about the --

  • "Remember when dad was just home all the time

  • and always up in our grille?" -"We loved it so much."

  • -It's actually been amazing. Because, you know, I don't --

  • I'm trying to let myself appreciate it

  • as much as possible, because at the same time,

  • you're thinking, like, there's so many people

  • in the world that are -- this is not a good thing,

  • that this is causing free-floating anxiety

  • for a lot of people and different things.

  • So I'm trying to let myself appreciate the actual face time

  • with the family and spending as much time as possible.

  • And it really does vacillate between deep,

  • beautiful connection, and then, suddenly,

  • it's the third act of "Aliens."

  • Suddenly I'm having a totally normal conversation

  • with a 3-year-old, then she's spitting acid in my face,

  • and I'm running for my life in the belly of the ship

  • and wearing nothing but a tank tops, sweaty as hell.

  • -That's a Tuesday night for you. -Yeah. I kind of, you know --

  • This is what -- I don't know, we're on,

  • like -- I don't know -- year five of quarantining?

  • I'm not sure where we are, but it changes on a dime, right?

  • -Oh, yeah. -Like, "What do you want

  • for dinner, sweet, sweet angel?"

  • And she's like, "I want Cheerios!"

  • You're just like...

  • Total the beast. She's the beast.

  • They all are, really.

  • -It's Teacher Appreciation Week, and I know it means a lot to you

  • 'cause your brother is actually a teacher.

  • Not only do you appreciate teachers,

  • but your brother is a teacher.

  • -My brother Patrick, yeah. He teaches at

  • Coyote Creek Elementary School up in British Columbia, Canada.

  • He teaches third and fourth graders.

  • He's an awesome guy. He's also an artist,

  • so he brings something special and magical to those kids

  • each and every day, and I'm really proud of him.

  • And I have another brother who's a first responder,

  • who works for the RCMP.

  • He's a Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman, Terry.

  • -Oh, my goodness. -Yeah, so, you know --

  • I have another brother, as well,

  • who's kind of a jack of all trades.

  • They all sort of do really good stuff for the community.

  • You know, it starts to get pretty embarrassing

  • calling him a dick at dinner. -[ Laughs ]

  • -They're such good people. -They're such good people, yeah.

-Ryan Reynolds, it's great to see you, pal.
