We got my mom out of assisted living with a tuck and roll

at the last minute when they were closing the doors,

You did a TED Talk on vulnerability that's gotten

which I think was the first Netflix special

where they just aired a lecture, that's crushing.

For people that don't know you, can you explain what you do?

that kind of define what it means to be human.

So I study vulnerability, courage, shame, empathy.

I'm a professor at the University of Houston.

I also have a professorship at UT Austin.

-We had the best time. -I loved watching it.

I love that you saw it. -Oh, my God. I totally saw it.

-You're doing the -- like a virtual commencement

-I am. I'm doing the commencement this year.

-Oh, my gosh! What an honor. That's great.

25,000 people in person, so it's an event.

-Do you have any idea what you're going to tell

-You know, I think what I would tell anybody right now

and including these graduates, I think everyone's

bull [bleep] meter is really sensitive right now.

"Hey, take a look. Here's the big secret.

Like, we don't know what's going on," so...

-No one knows. Yeah, no one knows what's going on.

and it's so helpful because there is a process

you can follow when you find yourself doing things

And it's important because let me tell you,

And most adults get to a place in our -- we get to a place

in our lives where we don't want to do anything

'cause we don't want to be that vulnerable

But unfortunately, that muscle that we use

when we do first things is the life blood.

It's the juice. It's the secret sauce to life.

That discomfort, that awkward, my kids would call cringy,

so I did a podcast on FFT saying, listen,

And so the three things that are super helpful is -- name it.

You know, I don't know, like the first big fight

I was like, "This is what we should be doing!"

He goes like, "How many pandemics have you been in?"

This is our first pandemic. This is our first quarantine.

Like, this is going to end at some point.

And then the third thing is reality check expectations.

Like, nothing is going to go like we had planned.

And I put the podcast out right when teachers were

going to online learning, and the teachers are like,

I can't even imagine you have to teach all these kids
