  • and we're alive here at the CS 50 fair.

  • This is Jason Hirschhorn, and I am here with Sofia.

  • Katie Logan.

  • And can you tell us what year you are, What house you live in and why you took CS 50.

  • I'm a sophomore and career house and took CS 50 to get introduction to programming.

  • I'm a sophomore in Adam's house and I took CS 50 because I want to do a secondary field.

  • Yes, I'm a sophomore in Cabot.

  • I just thought coding would be interesting and important to do.

  • So.

  • Took CS 50 and you're all sophomores, but not in the same house.

  • How do you find each other to do this project together way?

  • We're friends outside on, then?

  • I don't know.

  • Do you enjoy working with each other?

  • Yeah, it was fun time.

  • What was the best part of working in a group just like bouncing ideas off of each other?

  • Probably on.

  • Like when you're working with a group on a project, it's it's fun to be around people, your friends, you know.

  • So it made the product itself.

  • Did this strengthen your friendship or tear you all apart?

  • Okay, well, let's see the project.

  • Can you tell me the name and 15 seconds Why you made it and what it does, It will look at it.

  • Okay, The name is run Tourist run.

  • And we made this game with.

  • Essentially, you're a tourist in Harvard Yard and you're trying to take as many pictures as possible, but not be caught by Securitas.

  • And we just made it because he thought would be a fun concept way.

  • Play it.

  • Okay.

  • You want me to try it?

  • How about one of your demo it for me?

  • Ok, OK, look, let's see.

  • All right.

  • So space bar to start your this tourist in the upper left corner where that's me, that's you in the blue.

  • Yeah, It's like it's like Pokemon on Securitas is in red and you're just trying to evade Securitas while finding these photographic will objects and yellow here.

  • So, for example, if I go up here and I click the space bar, I just took a picture of the John Harvard statue scored their arm or the scoring comments at the top.

  • There's only going the path will only go in the past and I might wantto know if I hit this door in the bottom, right?

  • Yes.

  • I enter the next level wander libraries.

  • So this looks like a crypt when you were there.

  • Problems?

  • Yeah, yeah, of course.

  • So you can just keep, you know, um, going here.

  • We've got more photograph.

  • Well, objects.

  • The Securitas are a little bit faster this time, and we just got to avoid him.

  • That's okay.

  • And in the final level, one hit the door again is Annenberg.

  • So we've got, uh, quite fast securitize following me right now, but, um and so, Yeah, same thing where you got.

  • Where you heading?

  • I'm trying Thio.

  • Just make them follow you.

  • Make sure of Red Spice Chicken.

  • Now, we've got the stained glass windows at the top, which we'll see in a second, um, up here so you can take a picture of these is right.

  • If I were to die, levels reloaded my lives increments down by one.

  • And then when you reach the door in Annenberg, we should get a windscreen popping up doors in the bottom right again.

  • You made it for a brain break, and then you win and I have to score.

  • Let's give him a round of applause for Logan.

  • Congratulations.

  • So when you were implementing this, what was one technical challenge you encountered when you had to implement this?

  • Well, okay, so I feel like designing the levels was not really technical challenge, but it was a real big time.

  • So because we like hard coded in that's very low levels in the collision detection, I think was it's a little bit weird.

  • Yeah, it's difficult to get enemies to follow the play.

  • Securitas, not enemies.

  • They're doing their job.

  • Yeah, get Securitas to follow the player on the past without being caught and just like not moving at all.

  • So if you're like, if you're separated by a barrier, um you would ideally want them to go around the barrier to follow you.

  • But that's very hard to do.

  • That was, that's difficult as well.

  • There are also some problems with the sound, like making sure, like cut off the appropriate times and didn't loop incorrectly.

  • And I don't think you sound was playing way.

  • Have someone take your word for it.

  • That there was work to do there.

  • So with something technical challenges did you didn t f l beauty to go to office hours.

  • I think we just kind of worked through it.

  • You spend a lot of time on it and ask each other when we were having problems and, yeah, I don't know.

  • And coming Coming in to see us 15 months ago.

  • How?

  • What was your background in computer science?

  • Basically nothing background by taking a P.

  • C.

  • S a high school.

  • And I have no backup, No back in.

  • Okay.

  • Now, whether you had some background before, no background.

  • How do you feel now about computer science?

  • Much better.

  • I think we have the problem solving tools to approach a lot of CS problems, which I really appreciate.

  • I definitely feel more comfortable.

  • I enjoyed learning like the different languages that we didn't see us 50.

  • I feel better about it s Oh, I like it.

  • I like the lot.

  • Get Yeah, Not ringing Endorsement.

  • I love it.

  • I like the logic of CS.

  • Um, I think the things you could do with a pretty good Do you think this is the You're gonna go beyond this in the world of computer science?

  • Probably.

  • I'm very interested in biological research, so all kinds of things, like pipeline, are very helpful with that?

  • Probably.

  • Yeah, Like I said, I wanted to do a secondary and see, So probably take more classes.

  • See your python.

  • Which direction do you like?

  • Probably Python.

  • Okay.

  • Yeah, Really.

  • I mean, I've already done job, which is also like, an object or into language, like, See, Right, there could be elements of that, and she Sure, Yeah, but I feel like pythons, like, really applicable to wanted.

  • That hurts these feelings, but Okay, I think I will.

  • I just I'm more interested in statistical, you know, applications to you.

  • No other problems.

  • So if I might look at money in politics, I might want to look at statistics, and there's a lot of us to do that, right?

  • Right.

  • Exactly What do you want to put more in it or get more on get it up.

  • So statistics and using see us to do that could be useful.

  • And I know where this went.

  • A lot of times when there were challenges, you work together as a team to work through it.

  • But during the course, when you had challenges, who is your TF?

  • Who helped you out?

  • You wanna give a shout out to at office hours or just in your section You wanna give a shout out to I think my t f uh, have trooper did a really good job.

  • You tell him he's watching.

  • Now they have.

  • Chopra didn't excellent job in our sections.

  • I thought I felt much better after section to do the pieces.

  • You wanna give a shout out to Montague MMA?

  • Where?

  • Right there.

  • Yeah, I feel like he did a really great job in sections, like leading differently exercises and stuff.

  • Uh, she did a really great job.

  • And I also appreciate Veronica at the tutorial.

  • She was amazing.

  • With those shout outs.

  • We'll say goodbye to our friends will say goodbye to Securitas.

  • Oh, they're coming now.

  • Send it back to you at the desk.

and we're alive here at the CS 50 fair.
