  • Four, three, two, one. 2

  • Joel, long time no tease, how are you? 3

  • I am well, Ms. Guerrero. 4

  • It is always nice to see you. 5

  • You're less... 6

  • I'm usually... 7

  • Clips of you being very aggressive, 8

  • especially with Pastor Ken Copeland, 9

  • which I loved so endlessly. 10

  • I played it on a loop, 11

  • I gave it away as Christmas gifts, Hanukkah gifts. 12

  • I just put it in a little... 13

  • I was like, here you go. 14

  • You are doing the Lord's work. 15

  • Thank you so much. 16

  • I will forever somehow married to that man 17

  • in many people's psyches, 18

  • so I don't know how I feel about that. 19

  • But I'm glad that so many people watched it 20

  • and enjoyed it. 21

  • Yes. 22

  • So I'm a huge fan of yours, Joel. 23

  • Okay, that's a lie, but go ahead. 24

  • No you're a fantastic actor, 25

  • you're a wonderful host, we miss "The Soup" of course. 26

  • But what have you been doing lately? 27

  • I know that episodes of "Community" are back online, 28

  • and I hear you've got a podcast, 29

  • but you're still really busy with a bunch of stuff. 30

  • This is gonna sound strange, 31

  • but I'm actually busy than I think I was 32

  • before the quarantine, 33

  • because now I'm doing everything from the house, 34

  • but I have 12 and 15 year old sons. 35

  • And I don't know what we would do without the Xbox. 36

  • Now we're on spring break, which seems no different 37

  • than the previous week. 38

  • But in the meantime, Ken Jeong and I 39

  • have launched a podcast, because Ken is a real doctor, 40

  • and I am not, and so we decided that we would 41

  • kind of make this podcast about answering questions 42

  • about the crisis and "Community", 43

  • and we taped our second episode yesterday. 44

  • It's gonna drop tomorrow, 45

  • and spoiler, Andrew Yang comes on to the podcast. 46

  • So he's helping the economy to recover, 47

  • or putting the stuff in place to help the economy recover 48

  • and he's a tremendous man. 49

  • So we started that. 50

  • Boy, I'm sorry I'm talking so much. 51

  • And on top of that, Melissa McCarthy 52

  • and Octavia Spencer and I have started a thing called, 53

  • "Comfort Food 2020" that buys food 54

  • from independently owned, local restaurants 55

  • in different cities, and they buy meals, 56

  • so those restaurants get paid, 57

  • and then we feed hospital staffs. 58

  • Wow, that's amazing. 59

  • That is such a great idea. 60

  • Whose idea was that? 61

  • Oh, it was all mine. 62

  • (Lisa laughs) 63

  • You know, nothing to do with Octavia or Melissa, 64

  • they just ride on my coattails. 65

  • You know, 'cause my movie career is equal to theirs, 66

  • I think they were excited to pair with me. 67

  • No, so I was going on to local restaurants 68

  • on my Instagram, and going, come here, 69

  • they have great food, it's take out, 70

  • these are the prices, here's the menu. 71

  • And then Octavia had fed this hospital staff, 72

  • and then they said, do you wanna come on 73

  • and then we'll start using the restaurants 74

  • you've been featuring? 75

  • And so that's kind of how it all came together. 76

  • And when you have the power 77

  • of Octavia Spencer and Melissa McCarthy, 78

  • and a former, basic cable, clip show host, 79

  • I mean, that's going-- 80

  • Huge, big. 81

  • Yeah. 82

  • Tell me a little bit about the podcast 83

  • and the tone of the podcast, 84

  • because obviously you and Ken are very funny guys, 85

  • but we're living in a time of, quite frankly, 86

  • a pandemic and a crisis, 87

  • and a lot of people are anxious and scared. 88

  • So tell me about how you do this, 89

  • and how you strike that balance. 90

  • Well, thank you for saying we're funny. 91

  • I'm funny, Ken is not funny. 92

  • (Lisa laughs) 93

  • And I have to carry him through these podcasts 94

  • to make it appear that he's funny. 95

  • He would absolutely agree with me. 96

  • So that's a very good question, 97

  • because whenever both of us were turning on the news, 98

  • and as you know, they don't stop, 99

  • and you can watch one hour or seven hours of news, 100

  • and sometimes there's no news coming, 101

  • but you remain terrified. 102

  • And to decipher exactly what's going on is hard, 103

  • so we knew that "Community" was coming back to Netflix. 104

  • Yep. 105

  • And we thought... 106

  • 'Cause people ask both of us questions 107

  • all about "Community" and Donald all the time, 108

  • Donald Glover, not Trump, 109

  • because Donald Glover, he's gone on 110

  • to have a slightly elevated career since. 111

  • So we wanted to combine those things 112

  • and really ask questions like, do masks work, 113

  • and then talk about that. 114

  • Do gloves work, talk about that. 115

  • And Ken knows all about the medicine. 116

  • He really knows it. 117

  • And I try to just tell stupid jokes all the time 118

  • to keep it light. 119

  • So that's basically how we came around to it, 120

  • and Ken pays me $1,000 a week to be his friend, 121

  • so I thought this was a good way 122

  • to knock out the whole social hour with him, 123

  • and I wouldn't have to talk to him again 124

  • for the rest of the week. 125

  • Makes sense. 126

  • So Ken is a real doctor, 127

  • and has he considered answering the governor's call, 128

  • when he has been asking for retired doctors 129

  • and nurses to come back into service to help? 130

  • Oh, I think he's considered it, 131

  • but he was a terrible doctor, when he was a doctor. 132

  • He set a number of world records for being terrible. 133

  • He would often be just drinking a beer during an exam. 134

  • I think it was really irresponsible. 135

  • That's a good... 136

  • Well, right now, Tran, his wife, 137

  • is a full-time doctor, 138

  • so she is only working. 139

  • So Ken is with his daughters, his young daughters at home. 140

  • Taking care of them. 141

  • And I think that he... 142

  • I don't think, 'cause he's been out of medicine 143

  • for a decade, and so I think there's a number of things 144

  • he would have to do to get up to speed. 145

  • To get his license back so that he could practice. 146

  • 'Cause as you know, he was barred. 147

  • Yeah, no, he stole all those medical supplies way back when. 148

  • Sounds like I should investigate that, actually. 149

  • I'll get on him. 150

  • Ken Jeong, medical thief. 151

  • I think a lot of stuff would have to happen. 152

  • But in the meantime, putting up the podcast 153

  • and talking about the virus, 154

  • because he's so well educated, 155

  • even though he went to Duke and North Carolina, 156

  • which are crappy schools. 157

  • So he's very well versed, and it's great. 158

  • So you guys are doing... 159

  • Obviously, you said that you've been 160

  • probably busier now than you've been in a long time. 161

  • Yeah. 162

  • Can you give people some advice, 163

  • because so many people are feeling cabin fever, 164

  • they're stuck inside. 165

  • Here we live in southern California, 166

  • and you're not able to go outside, 167

  • and really enjoy, exercise and things we used to do. 168

  • Going out to restaurants, for example. 169

  • So what advice would you give people 170

  • that are fighting cabin fever? 171

  • I don't know, red wine? 172

  • Okay, no, let's see... 173

  • I would say stay as active as you possibly can physically. 174

  • Whatever allows you to. 175

  • Because you have to take care of the temple. 176

  • So that will chew up a lot of energy, right there. 177

  • But I would say, be cautious, 178

  • obviously do all the distancing, 179

  • listen to things about how you should go grocery shopping, 180

  • how you should bring those bags in, do all that. 181

  • Definitely buy from local businesses, 182

  • but don't let the paranoia paralyze you. 183

  • So it is very serious and very terrifying, 184

  • but don't let it overcome you. 185

  • And you know, read some books. 186

  • Read the books that you should have read 187

  • in high school and college. 188

  • Knock some of those out. 189

  • And if you're me and my sons, 190

  • we're playing a lot of "Madden", 191

  • "Fortnite", and "Call of Duty", 192

  • so I recommend those games, they're great. 193

  • And "Spiderman", we like the "Spiderman" game on PS4. 194

  • I know you're a sports fan. 195

  • This is a brutal time for sports fans right now. 196

  • I mean, how many classic ESPN games can one watch? 197

  • So what do you suggest for sports fans, 198

  • that don't have anything to gamble on, 199

  • what about the degenerates, what are they doing right now? 200

  • Good question about the degenerates, 201

  • but if you think about it, 202

  • people that bet on things, 203

  • can find almost anything to bet on. 204

  • They probably would bet on how many commercial breaks 205

  • will be taken during one of those classic games. 206

  • 'Cause they cut out all of the peripheral stuff in those. 207

  • When I turn on ESPN, now it's "30 for 30" all the time. 208

  • Right. 209

  • I just watched that "O.J.: Made in America" again, 210

  • which was fantastic. 211

  • And I can't recommend enough the documentary, "McMillions", 212

  • but sports fans are pretty... 213

  • I would say Esports is your answer. 214

  • Go watch some "Overwatch League" stuff, 215

  • and you and go to Twitch 216

  • and watch a lot of video games live. 217

  • I know that a lot of older dudes 218

  • don't want that or anything. 219

  • But if the biggest sacrifice we have to make 220

  • is missing some live sporting events on TV, 221

  • then we are gonna be just fine. 222

  • Did you watch "Tiger King"? 223

  • Everyone keeps asking me about this, 224

  • and I still have not watched it. 225

  • (Lisa gasps) 226

  • It's so good. 227

  • I know everyone is freaking out, 228

  • and I know that if there's secrets or spoilers, 229

  • I'm gonna be really screwed. 230

  • 'Cause I'm gonna learn them all. 231

  • I know it's bad when even... 232

  • My mom just turned 75 two days ago, 233

  • Happy birthday, Laurie McHale in Seattle. 234

  • Happy birthday! 235

  • Happy birthday, Mom! 236

  • Even she is like, "Well, have you seen the 'Tiger Kings'?" 237

  • And I went, wow, so I need to... 238

  • This reminds me of high school, 239

  • when my mom goes, "Have you heard of the Pearl Jam?" 240

  • And I went, okay, it's not happened, 241

  • the band is popular, my mom knows who it is. 242

  • So if they know it, I'm gonna start tonight. 243

  • Good. 244

  • Call me in the morning and you can quiz me, 245

  • and we can do this again, and we can do a wrap up. 246

  • Perfect. 247

  • Is there any other documentary on other than 248

  • "Tiger King" I should watch? 249

  • No, that's the only one, that's it. 250

  • Okay, well, what do you watch that is non-documentary, 251

  • if you go home tonight, what are you watching? 252

  • So I'm watching, "Little Fires Everywhere". 253

  • That's the Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washinton, 254

  • kind of, mini series. 255

  • It's excellent. 256

  • I'm watching "Westworld", the new episodes that are out. 257

  • So I love that. 258

  • And I'm watching news. 259

  • I am one of the people that watches news 24/7. 260

  • So I'm watching MSNBC and CNN, 261

  • and I watch The Death Clicker, 262

  • and I'm obsessed with it, 263

  • and I'm completely, 100% all in, 264

  • for every single news show there is. 265

  • Do you ever get bored? 266

  • 'Cause clearly they're not offering new information, 267

  • but they go, we'll let's talk to this guy 268

  • who drives a van and see what's going on 269

  • with the van guy. 270

  • Are you okay with that stuff? 271

  • Yeah, because it's not just the new information, 272

  • it's how the different anchors and correspondents 273

  • present it from show to show or hour to hour, 274

  • and their perspective on it is a little bit different. 275

  • Question for you, 'cause we are working on this story 276

  • about the masks, and you said that you and Ken 277

  • did talk about whether or not these masks work. 278

  • Yep. 279

  • Because I don't know if you just heard, 280

  • they're now, of course, here in California, 281

  • we're supposed to wear masks. 282

  • In New York now, they've announced 283

  • that they're supposed to wear masks, 284

  • and tonight they're gonna say 285

  • that the White House is recommending 286

  • people wear masks when they go out. 287

  • So what did Doctor Ken say we should do? 288

  • Do the cloth masks work or not? 289

  • Ultimately, we talked about, 290

  • ultimately, he would say, from the research would say, 291

  • no, it can't stop the virus. 292

  • It can do a couple of things, 293

  • when you wear a mask, it helps to remind you 294

  • not to touch your face, so that's huge. 295

  • That's a big deal. 296

  • The N45 masks are the ones that can actually 297

  • stop the droplets from getting into 298

  • your respiratory system. 299

  • So those are the ones that you wear 300

  • when you're painting, or with the docs, 301

  • like when you're painting a house, 302

  • or what the docs are wearing. 303

  • And I don't wanna say, don't wear a mask, 304

  • I'm trying not to stay that. 305

  • But it helps you become more hyper aware, 306

  • and who knows, why not? 307

  • Right, why not do it, just because 308

  • it just reminds people to stay further away from each other. 309

  • So tell me, if there's like one last thing 310

  • you want to mention to folks that we haven't covered 311

  • or something that you want our viewers to know 312

  • about what you're doing. 313

  • Or some kind of message of encouragement, 314

  • or just anything. 315

  • What do you wanna share? 316

  • When you go out, do what I do, wear a mask, 317

  • rubber gloves, and an adult diaper. 318

  • (Lisa laughs) 319

  • Just in case. 320

  • Because a lot of places are closed, 321

  • don't wanna use the bushes. 322

  • Excellent advice. 323

  • I would say, go to the CDC website, 324

  • and that is very good information, 325

  • and they are up to date on it, 326

  • so pay attention to the research that's coming, 327

  • 'cause it's right up to date, 328

  • and I would say, unlike yourself, 329

  • because you're in the news... 330

  • 'Cause I think a lot of people, they watch the news 331

  • endlessly and it freaks them out, 332

  • but make sure... 333

  • Even though, people go like, 334

  • oh, we're just at home all the time. 335

  • Take a little bit of time, either to meditate, 336

  • exercise, or take yourself out for a bit 337

  • to enjoy and then you can reengage. 338

  • That was a very long piece of advice. 339

  • Oh, and skip rope, how about that? 340

  • Jump rope, that's good. 341

  • Finally, do you miss "Inside Edition"? 342

  • Do you still watch us all the time? 343

  • 'Cause we miss you. 344

  • I have not missed a single episode, 345

  • you can quiz me on anything. 346

  • Boy, I miss those days. 347

  • There was one segment you did, 348

  • when you were running after dudes in a parking lot, 349

  • and you were posing as a prostitute. 350

  • Sex for gas! 351

  • Sex for gas after super storm Sandy. 352

  • That was one of my classics. 353

  • The glee with which the producers would come in 354

  • with that tape, they were like, 355

  • "You're not gonna believe what Lisa Guerrero did!" 356

  • (Lisa laughs) 357

  • And I'm like, "What?" 358

  • And he was like, "She is confronting men 359

  • "who are trying to solicit her, 360

  • "while they're getting gas." 361

  • So that's why people say... 362

  • You literally helped pay for the house 363

  • you see around me, Lisa, so thank you. 364

  • (Lisa laughs) 365

  • As you said, God's work, yes. 366

  • You're welcome. 367

  • You're welcome, America, you're welcome, Joel McHale. 368

  • So listen to "The Darkest Timeline", 369

  • the podcast with me and Ken, 370

  • watch "Community" on Netflix, 371

  • and I don't know, 372

  • and get take out 373

  • from independent businesses. 374

  • Solicit independent businesses. 375

  • Do not sale your body for gas. 376

  • All great advice, thank you so much, Joel. 377

  • Thanks, Lisa. 378

  • And just for those of you that are watching, 379

  • she never even looked at me once, 380

  • she's been looking into a camera this whole time, 381

  • and it's been very rude. 382

  • So rude. 383

  • Oh my gosh. 384

  • I love you, thank you. 385

  • We appreciate it. 386

  • Thanks, good luck with everything.
