  • Okay, so top five Supercars at the Geneva Motor Show 2019.

  • And we start somewhere rather at the high end of the scale

  • on the Bugatti stand with this. The Bugatti La Voiture Noire.

  • Let me check I pronounced that right. Yes, I have.

  • It is a one-off.

  • We'll start off with the elephant in the room and that's the price.

  • This thing will set you back, if you could actually buy one,

  • eleven million euros before tax.

  • You can't because it's a one-off and somebody's already bought it,

  • but that makes it the most expensive new car that has ever been made.

  • But actually, when you look into the backstory behind this car,

  • that price is quite fitting.

  • It's inspired by the Type 57 SC Atlantic,

  • Jean Bugatti's Type 57 Atlantic, in fact.

  • Only four cars were ever built. between 1936 and 1938.

  • Three of which exist, one of which went mysteriously missing,

  • and that was Jean Bugatti's car, La Voiture Noire.

  • And this is a resurrection of that car if you like.

  • Just to give you an idea of how expensive SC Altantics are these days.

  • Ralph Lauran, or Ralph Lauren even, he of the Polo shirt fortune, has one.

  • He was offered a $100 million for his, and he told them where to stick it.

  • So, yes, it's only right that this thing should be ludicrously expensive.

  • But what is it?

  • Underneath, there is quite a lot of Chiron.

  • It uses the same engines. That 8-litre, W16, quad-turbo engine,

  • the same DSG gearbox, 1500 horsepower, four-wheel drive.

  • But you may have noticed with the proportions, it's a lot longer.

  • It's lower, it's sleeker, there's an extra 250 mm, I'm told, in the wheelbase,

  • which doesn't sound like much but makes a huge difference

  • when you're looking at the car from here.

  • It's lower, it's sleeker, it's more of a GT car.

  • So, usefully Bugatti has parked a standard Chiron, just over there.

  • Next to it is a Divo.

  • That's the limited run, they're only making 40 of those.

  • That's five million quid, that's two and a half million quid,

  • and then this is the one-off. The big one.

  • And there's plenty of design detail to try and absorb with this thing.

  • First of all, six exhaust pipes, as you do,

  • a nod to the Type 57 there. That had effectively had six peashooters

  • compared to these enormous cans they've got coming out the back here.

  • Absolutely gorgeous.

  • The paint, as you get closer, you start to see the carbon fibre weave.

  • It's this shiny gloss carbon fibre.

  • It's immaculate, of course, as you'd expect.

  • I do like these wheels. They're basically cheating, aren't they?

  • If we paint a bit of silver on the rubber,

  • it will make them look bigger than they actually are.

  • Nice try, Bugatti.

  • And you'll notice this light strip running right down the bonnet of the car,

  • through the windscreen wiper and down the centre line of the car.

  • Again, that's another nod to the Type 57.

  • It's an exciting car.

  • but it has to be said, has the world gone mad

  • when cars can cost 11 million quid, plus tax? Look...

  • That car over there, two and a half million quid.

  • One of the very fastest cars the world has ever produced.

  • Is this five or six times more expensive?

  • Worth six times as much as that over there? No, it's not.

  • This is a point, this is a junction where engineering meets art.

  • It's a one-off. And if this guy wants it enough

  • he'll pay whatever money he can.

  • The world's gone mad, it's stupid money.

  • Do you know what, let's just not talk about cash anymore,

  • let's stand back and admire it because as a one-off piece of sculpture...

  • it is a crazy, crazy thing.

  • Strap yourselves in for this one. This is the brand-new Koenigsegg,

  • the brand-new Koenigsegg Jesko.

  • It is an all new car from the ground up,

  • but the big headline here is this is, sort of,

  • the world's first 300 mile an hour car.

  • The version you see here has quite a large rear wing on the back,

  • and quite a large front splitter and quite a lot of downforce going on.

  • But I've heard from Christian von Koenigsegg himself,

  • they are going to do a lower downforce version,

  • that could, theoretically, according to his simulations,

  • hit the fabled 300 miles an hour.

  • Obviously, they've no plans to do it yet.

  • They need to find a location,

  • they need to find a driver mad enough to do it.

  • They need to find a tyre company to get on board, of course,

  • but the science says it's possible. And that's good enough for us.

  • What can I tell you about the car? It's made entirely from carbon fibre.

  • Koenigsegg makes pretty much all this carbon fibre themselves in the factory.

  • It's a thing of beauty, it's naked, it's polished up to a fine sheen.

  • And every tiny, little piece is aligned and looks perfect.

  • It's a piece of art as much as it is a Supercar.

  • In the back, no hybrid nonsense.

  • This is a 5-litre, V8, twin turbo engine, 1280 horsepower,

  • on normal 95-octane gas.

  • Or 1600 horsepower on E85.

  • Yeah, that's where that incredible top speed comes from.

  • You notice the wheels down here, the lightest wheels they've ever produced.

  • And also, a bottle of Jesko beer. Look at that, now that is a car company.

  • Three hundred miles Supercars and beers to celebrate with.

  • That's why we Koenigsegg you see.

  • And right on time, here's the engine. The 5-litre V8.

  • A thing of absolute beauty.

  • That's the thing. This is engineering to the nth degree,

  • but they never ever forget that people want to look at these things,

  • stare at these things, perv on these things.

  • Ohlin dampers there, the Triplex suspension.

  • That stops the car squatting when it's under acceleration.

  • A carbon fibre tub, a little bit wider, a little bit higher,

  • a bit more space for your occupants inside.

  • And, get this, they've developed their own 9-speed, multi-clutch gearbox...

  • There are six clutches, I think, for forward, one for reverse.

  • ...from scratch.

  • You can't buy a gearbox off Bugatti...

  • No gearbox out there will take the torque this engine is producing.

  • So you just produce your own one.

  • That is the Koenigsegg way.

  • That is the integrity we love about this company.

  • It's just a stunning thing.

  • You'll see all the people just gathering around it.

  • It's like moths to a flame.

  • The other thing to mention is that name. Jesko. It's rather special.

  • Jesko is the name of Christian von Koenigsegg's father.

  • He was the man that helped him out when he was just a 22 year old

  • with a dream of owning his own Supercar company.

  • He bankrolled in, he stuck around for five years,

  • held him by the hand and made the company the success it is today.

  • So this is Christian's way of saying to his father,

  • "Daddy, I love you. Thank you for making my dreams come true."

  • And what a tribute this car is.

  • Alright, it's new Ferrari time.

  • This is the F8 Tributo.

  • Basically, a replacement for the 488 GTB.

  • And if I was to keep things really, really simple,

  • the best way of describing this is a 488 Pista for the masses.

  • A slightly less hardcore version of the Pista,

  • because, basically, its spec sheet reads a lot like the hardcore 488.

  • But it won't be limited in numbers. This one will be available to everyone.

  • So, back there, you've got the same 3.9-litre, twin turbo V8,

  • producing 711 horsepower. That is the same as the Pista

  • and it brings it in line with the McLaren 720S.

  • It's exactly the same output as the McLaren.

  • Nought to 62 in 2.9 seconds, same as the Pista, same as the McLaren.

  • Top speed 211 miles an hour.

  • Again, same as the Pista, one mile an hour slower than the McLaren.

  • Disappointing.

  • Styling changes. Most of those, the most dramatic ones,

  • are at the front end. You'll see as it comes around on the turntable.

  • It's a lot sharper.

  • A lot more angles on the headlights, the nose protrudes there,

  • and you've got this. The S-duct.

  • So that's something that was featured on the Pista.

  • Air was jammed through there, up here.

  • The whole front of the car acts like a spoiler

  • jamming it down into the road.

  • You'll see the engine cover as well. The Perspex, perforated engine cover.

  • A little nod to the Ferrari F40 back there.

  • It is a gorgeous thing.

  • It's somehow a muted reaction to a brand-new V8, mid-engine Ferrari.

  • Somehow, we expected the step after the 488 to be a bigger leap than this.

  • After all, the 488 was an evolution, and albeit a big one from the 458 Italia.

  • So, are we disappointed?

  • Not really, it's a brand-new Ferrari. It's an exciting car.

  • And if it brings Pista performance to the masses

  • well it can only be a good thing.

  • You join us at pretty much the most exciting spot

  • in the entire Geneva Motor Show,

  • because, look, it's the Aston Martin Valkyrie.

  • I didn't know this was going to be here. This is verification prototype 001.

  • The first car to have that incredible Cosworth V12 installed into the back.

  • This is a very exciting moment. Look, touch it. It's actually real.

  • Six and a half litre V12, over 1100 RPM...

  • We now know, with the hybrid system, this is going to produce 1160 horsepower,

  • in a car weighing just over a ton.

  • The performance of this thing is going to blow our minds.

  • A couple of new bits on this.

  • The interior, a bit more finished.

  • You can see the screens either side for the wing mirrors,

  • the central screen, the steering wheel with another screen in the centre of it.

  • That's all new stuff, we haven't seen that before.

  • We haven't seen these either. These are the cameras for wing mirrors.

  • And if we come around the front...

  • I don't normally get excited about windscreen wipers,

  • but this one is a bit special.

  • All carbon fibre. I'm told it's a triple blade system.

  • So, as it wipes across the screen it actually rotates

  • to make sure it stays in contact with the glass.

  • Oh, my word. This is the most exciting car ever,

  • and I'd better get out the way before I get a bit of a trouser tent on.

  • Believe it or not, that's not even why we're here.

  • The main reason we're here on the Aston Martin stand

  • is because there are new cars. Another hypercar.

  • When I heard that Aston Martin were going to bring a new hypercar to the Geneva Show

  • I thought that's ridiculous, they've already got one. It's the Valkyrie.

  • But the idea here is that is such a special thing.

  • Three million quid, the Valkyrie.

  • But there's space underneath it.

  • So this is called the AM-RB 003.

  • It is a hypercar.

  • Performance on a plane with the Ferrari LaFerrari.

  • I'm guessing but about 1000 horsepower, about a million quid.

  • Four-wheel drive, it's a hybrid,

  • and the big news here is

  • back there we've got a brand-new V6 twin-turbo engine,

  • with added batteries and motors to get it up to the performance.

  • That's an all new engine, built in-house, designed in-house by Aston Martin.

  • I mean, if the Valkyrie wasn't enough to get me excited...

  • Look at this. And guess what, that's not even it.

  • Here it is. Another mid-engine car. A third mid-engine car.

  • Let's count them up. Valkyrie, 003, and now this, the Vanquish Vision Concept.

  • A mid-engine Supercar, a direct rival to the Ferrari F8 and the McLaren 720S.

  • This is the more affordable end of the scale.

  • So, three million for a Valkyrie, a million or so for a 003.

  • Let's say two or three hundred grand for one of these.

  • It features an aluminium chassis, not the carbon tubs on the other ones.

  • And, like the 003, it's got a brand-new twin turbo V6 in the back.

  • Again, with hybrid assistance, but slightly less than the 003.

  • So, think for this one, a power output beginning with a seven.

  • That's what you need these days,

  • to keep up with the mid-engine Supercar elite.

  • It's a thing of beauty though.

  • Whereas the others are aero-obsessed in varying degrees,

  • this one's a little bit purer, a little bit smoother at the front.

  • Less downforce, of course.

  • A more elegant design. It's what Aston does better than anyone.

  • Elegant design. And this just exudes it.

  • Look at these details, look at this camera for a wing mirror.

  • The way that thing curves around.

  • The way the side straight here feeds into the door.

  • I'm getting a little bit gushy.

  • And I do realise, by the way, that we said this was the top five Supercars,

  • and these three are just going to count as one,

  • otherwise we'll run out of numbers,

  • and I wanted you to see all three of them in a row.

  • Tell you what, Aston Martin doesn't do things by halves.

  • I think I need a lie down.

  • Here we go then, a proper, no-nonsense Yorkshire bred Supercar.

  • This is Ginetta's brand-new Supercar.

  • There isn't a name, they won't tell me, because the press conference is later.

  • The spoil-sports.

  • But we can get a good look around this thing.

  • It is 600 horsepower, naturally aspirated V8.

  • It's going to cost just under 400 grand.

  • They're going to make 20 of them in the first year,

  • they may make a few more, but around 70 percent of them are sold already.

  • It's quite useful the way they've set up the stand.

  • That car over there is their road car heritage.

  • And the car behind me, that's their new LMP1 car.

  • So the idea is that this is both of those coming together.

  • The road knowledge, the racetrack knowledge,

  • and now you can have this incredible looking machine.

  • I'll be honest, when we first saw the pictures,

  • it's quite a shocking thing to look at.

  • but in black, it tones it down a little bit.

  • I'm more of a fan.

  • And here's a USP for a car of this calibre.

  • It's actually got a big boot. You can get two sets of golf clubs in there.

  • Which is nice to know.

  • So, that's it. That's your top five Supercars

  • from the Geneva Show 2019.

  • Excited? I am.

Okay, so top five Supercars at the Geneva Motor Show 2019.
