  • John Corigliano's First Symphony is an incredibly moving piece. It's a piece

  • that he wrote in response to the AIDS epidemic and to people that he lost

  • personally. The "Nightcap" that we're doing really continues that thread, so

  • across the street we'll have a little interview and talk with John, but

  • he has programmed music by students, friends, and colleagues of his that died of AIDS.

  • I'm totally giving it over to the young composers that I knew way back then.

  • I want the audience to know that we lost a lot with AIDS, and these creative forces

  • they will hear are so good and so meaningful that it will, I think, bring a

  • different kind of sorrow to the table, sorrow of, What have we lost in art?

  • I think it's a really special concert. It's really important. It's gonna be

  • interesting to have such an intimate look at this in a room that

  • seats barely over a hundred people, and I just think it's gonna be a really

  • special night.
