So today's video I'm going to show you basic networking configurations on a Lennox server.

Now I will award you with this particular video.

This might be one to make your brain hurt a little bit, and that's okay.

When you're to start trying to explain how networking works in the Lenox world, we get into one of the big issues where this should not be that complicated of a subject.

But because there are so many distributions, there are so many versions.

There's so many ways of doing any one thing in the Lenox world.

When you get something basic as basic as simply managing your I P addresses, that could get a little bit more complicated again.

We're really talking about good new Lenox.

And so one of the issues that you run into is again depending on the version, depending on the distribution, depending on a lot of different things, you may be using different tools to be able to manage your networking service is on your particular Lennox system.

Then what I'm going to show you how to do is how to release and renew your D a c p i p address.

And then I'm going to show you how to create a static I p address on your server again.

So with that, let's go over to the server so I can show you how all this works.

So here we are, at my a bunch of server again.

I'm running this on a Mac operating system and using virtual box in order to virtualized the instance of you.

Bunty server for the networking component just realized we go into settings and we go into network for what I'm showing you today.

I'm using a Bridget adapter, and I'm actually using a hardwire connection for the networking interfaces.

So when this virtual machine goes to communicate with the outside world, it will be going through a break adapter.

So if you are using the anat on here or in that network or something else that some of the settings, some of the things that you see maybe a little bit different than what I'm showing you shouldn't be significantly different, but just something to keep in mind.

Eso Let's log into my little server here.

And now the first thing that I'm going to show you how to do is find your i p address.

Now, back in the old days, back in the old days, like a couple of days ago, I would use I f config again.

This is an important thing to understand analytics world.

So for a long time we have been using the command I f can fix.

So if you go back and you're researching something again something about networking and I tell you to use I have config.

That was the tool that was used for a really frightening long time.

Right, As if you use the eye Afghan fig tool.

Basically, with this, this is going to give your your i p address.

So it's going to tell you what your Internet connection is with the name of your network Connection is the E.

So whenever we're modifying configurations for this particular network connection, that is what the name is going to be.

Do you remember, with the computer, you may have multiple network connections, right?

I don't know 10 different network cards in your system, so each one of them could be configured differently.

So whenever you're going in and doing modifications, do you make sure your modifying the right network card S O.

If there were more network cards, you see more names we can see that has the i net.

So this is the TCP I P address of 10 0 not one, not for And it has a subnet mask of 25525555.0.

To be clear, though, is the old way of doing it all though, as all these things d'oh, it still works.

But to be clear, they really are trying to get rid of I f can thick is that if I have config what they want you to do now is used by the I p tool so simply I p.

And to find your address, you simply do space a d d e r.

If we hit Enter now we're taking a look at this.

We can see we're basically getting the same time of information that we're getting out of Iife config.

But it's but it's just in a different format, right?

So what we're gonna do is we're going to go to the second entry here again.

That is going to be our network interface E m p zero s three.

Just like we just all appear with, I have config, and then we can come back and we can look at some different information.

And now for our Internet address here we can see that is a 10.0, not one.

But instead of actually saying with seven at Mask is spelling up out the sum that mask you get to slash 24 eso in the networking world.

You'll see this So a class A network is a slash age.

A Class B network is a class a slash 16 and of course, a Class C network would be a slash 24.

So, depending on how many octet are in your sub, that mask you do the slash and whatever that is.

So what I can see here, then, is like an oven, and I have an heir net dressed address of 10.0, not one, not for and it's 2552525.0 subnet mask.

So that's again just one of those little bit of differences and again, you know, for you doing things your own way.

I still like I have config I use I have to fix it.

But but to declare apparently everybody is supposed beginning pushed to the I P tool for dealing with i p addresses and C i p space a d d r.

This will tell you what the name of your network adapter is.

This will tell you what the Internet, the network addresses and the slash that tells you what the something that mask is.

And so that's all there is in order to find what your I P addresses.

And so now what we're going to do is we're going to take a look at what your default gateway is.

Lots of tools, lots of tools to find out what a default gateway.

As I just picked this one, if you know a different way of doing it, do a different way.

Eyes tool called routes CD round spaced, hyphen n Basically, what it is going to do is going to show you how how traffic gets routed from your computer to the outside world and then hyphen in.

What this does is actually give you the I P addresses.

I'll show you that I simply new route without the the hyphen end and we go down here.

What we can see is the destination default and then we just see this gateway, right?

So when it says Gateway, we just see Gateway.
