  • This is the lock picking lawyer, and what I have for you today is the Brinks Extra large, High security key lock box.

  • It's a model 655-80001 There's not a lot I can say about this that I haven't already said about other brands.

  • We have what appears to be a thin zinc alloy box, protected by a four dial combination lock that can be decoded and opened relatively quickly.

  • Honestly, I see this paradigm so often that it seems like every lock maker met up 20 years ago, came up with a terrible design and then agreed that would be the industry standard.

  • But it's not enough to tell you.

  • Let me show you just how bad it ISS.

  • First, however, we need to change the combination to something I don't already know.

  • So let's put this into reset mode.

  • And while the wheels air facing away from a scrambled and up okay, that should be enough.

  • Let's put it back to operating mode, close the door and scramble those wheels one last time.

  • Okay, that should be enough.

  • I now have a box to which I do not know the combination.

  • The first thing I'm going to do is take this thin shim of metal that I cut out of 7000 stick feeler gauge inserted between the lock body and a code wheel and hook it behind a bar of metal that runs behind the back of all the wheels and then going to pull that bar into the wheels and then turn them until I feel a loose spot in the travel.

  • That loose spot should be a digit to the combination.

  • Okay, it looks like the combination is 3236 So as you saw, these could be opened by an attacker with only a little more time than it takes an authorized user to dial the combination.

  • As such, this is definitely not a product that I would rely upon to protect my house key.

  • In any case, that's all I have for you today.
