Hey, guys, Welcome back to my channel today.

I'm gonna talk about how I got my first software engineering internship without having a computer science or software engineering degree.

It really motivates me to create and post more constant for you.

I didn't study computer science in university and you can check in my previous video how I learned how to code.

And while I was learning how to code, I had one big goal in mind to get an internship as a software engineer.

One thing I realized really quickly is that studying in university can be super super different than actually applying the skill at the job working in the field.

So I really wanted to understand whether I liked software engineer and by trying to intern as a software engineer.

I did a ton of research on how the application process works, and what I've realized really quickly is that one.

I needed a lot of time to prepare, and two, I needed to learn a completely different skill, which is technical.

In Tribune, I spent about two months just prepared for technical interviews to be able to you even interview for internship rolls and then in parallel with this preparation.

I also worked on my resume, and I will do a completely separate video on how I think a good resume should look like and what my first president, it looked like.

And then, after all of that time was spent, I was really ready to start applying because I had no real fulltime software engineer and work experience.

I really tried applying anywhere I could.

I would Retek crimes, just to be aware off the startups and companies that were out there, and then I would go to their Web sites.

I would try to find company emails and just cold email them to try to get a response about internship opportunities.

This is one of the examples off the email that I would send and I would just really be like waiting there, keeping my hopes of that, someone would respond and some people did.

I also tried to leverage my personal connections as much as I could.

I knew a lot of people already that were in the field, so I would reach out to them in hopes that I could get some advice or get a referral.

And then one time, ah, Yelp recruiter looked at my LinkedIn profile and actually that was absolutely nothing.

That was computer science related on my profile.

But I saw any situation as an opportunity.

I reached out to that recruiter, send him a long message about the fact that I'm really passionate about learning, and I know that there is nothing relevant to computer science on my profile.

But I attached my resume and asked him whether there were any entrance of opportunities at Yelp and believe it or not, she actually responded.

And that's how I got my yelp interview and then four interview rounds later, I had an offer.

Yelp is a pretty big company here in San Francisco.

I got to Silicon Valley from the first try and then Besides, Yelp also had four other offers, but there were all small startups.

And then, in the end of the day, I decided Thio go with yell because I thought it would be an amazing opportunity to worry.

Got such a great company and really put a lot of effort into learning a lot from all the people I could learn from there.

So this is how I got my first software engineer an internship, and I didn't accept Yelp guys.

I highly highly recommend anyone to try to do an internship.

You learn so much and then, besides just learning skills that irrelevant immediately to code.

And let's say, if you were trying to be a software engineering, you also learned how to work with product designers with data scientists with product managers, how the whole organization works.

So it's great for your network in and just making friends, and then it's kind of time limited.

You only have 46 or eight months, and if you don't like it, you know that it's fine.

It it's gonna be done and then you can continue your soul searching and move on to something else.

So, out of my experience of how I got my first internship, you can of course, say that I went to University of Waterloo.

I knew people, but in the end of the day, I worked really, really hard and I hustled a lot.

And I try to convert any situation into an opportunity like I did with that yelp Recruiter looking at my LinkedIn profile.
