  • everybody.

  • Welcome back to flag slash van Friday.

  • Hope you like the Mauritania episode.

  • Another is the part where, you know, I cover things that I didn't get to talk about in the episode or I fix some mistakes.

  • For one that was kind of a weak punch.

  • You could see me looking at Nick before you punched me.

  • Second accident.

  • He said that Mauritania was in the Maghreb.

  • It's not, I meant to say Sahara and Suhel, not my gravity hell.

  • Third, I accidentally used the Francophone map, not the French Empire map.

  • The DRC was never part of The French Empire is part of the Belgian.

  • Another thing.

  • I wanted to talk a little bit more about this slavery thing.

  • I want to mention that in Mauritania they also kind of have, like villages that are designated for either street slaves or emancipated Slaves are slaves that ran away.

  • They are called Wahba.

  • There's a whole weird system going on.

  • There's documentaries that have been made on it.

  • But I also forgot to mention that the tallest mountain is also almost completely made up of iron ore deposits like seriously, sometimes compasses don't even work.

  • If you go on the mountain.

  • I forgot to mention the most notable mosque in the Capitol.

  • And walk shot the mosque.

  • Celtic kind of funded and made by the Saudis.

  • And yeah, that's just about it.

  • So let's jump into the flag.

  • So, without further at you, you know what?

  • I really hate The flag.

  • Emoji for Mauritania is still not updated.

  • Like whoever's in charge of Emojis.

  • Fix it anyway.

  • The real flag.

  • The flag is a green banner with two red bands on the top and bottom with a golden upward pointing crescent and star in the middle.

  • The green and gold are considered pan African colors, whereas the green specifically also symbolizes Islam as well as the bright future and the growth of the nation.

  • The gold symbolizes the sands of the Sahara and the red stands for Yeah, you guys were waiting for that, weren't you?

  • Once again, thank you can for making that animation.

  • You guys know Ken, right?

  • It was the guy you can as you know, I just moved into this new house, so in appreciation, you have just been upgraded from cage to dungeon.

  • Oh, yeah.

  • So that's all I need you here for now, So we'll get in your dungeon until I call you back.

  • Wait.

  • Really?

  • Yes.

  • Yeah, I'm serious.

  • Okay, So anyway, give mine This flag used to not have red stripes.

  • It used to be that way from independence up until 2017.

  • That meant up until 2017 they alongside with Jamaica were the only two flags in the world that didn't have any red, white or blue on them.

  • Now Jamaica is all alone.

  • Adding the Red stripes is actually kind of controversial.

  • The red stretch were actually part of a controversial referendum that changed up a lot of the nation's policies.

  • It included things like a polishing, the constitutional men man's getting rid of some of the people in the Senate changing the national anthem.

  • There actually a lot of protests and opposition forces.

  • One senator was arrested for corruption and he went on a hunger strike.

  • The whole back story to it, of course, prior to that there, actually under the French under the French Empire and prior to that, they didn't really have a flag.

  • So anyway, yeah, the seal of Mauritania, the sea was pretty simple.

  • It's just a disc with the flag colors in the middle, minus the red overlapped Buy a palm in a flower plant all with the words Islamic Republic of Mauritania, written in both Arabic and French on the top and bottom edges on an outer white disc.

  • And yeah, that was pretty simple because yeah, is, uh this is pretty much the only seal they've ever had.

  • So I guess you know what that means.

  • It's time for Jogbra fan mail time.
