  • what is up, guys?

  • Forest here.

  • And when I was on YouTube earlier today, I was scrolling down the comments section of whatever video is watching.

  • And on the recommended side, you know that the side where it shows all those videos there was a thumbnail with Mark Zuckerberg on it.

  • That said, college degrees are worthless.

  • And the title of it is something like Why the most successful people say that college degrees are useless, so I just want to give my two cents on the topic.

  • First, I want to lay out two things.

  • Number one is I am currently finishing up my computer science degree so I may be a little bit biased.

  • Take whatever I say with a grain of salt number two.

  • I haven't watched that video just yet because I don't want those opinions to skew my opinion.

  • I'm gonna give whatever I'm thinking without anybody else's viewpoints influencing my thoughts before I actually watched that video and before you go disliking the video based on whatever biases I may have or whatever I titled this video, I want to say you don't need to have a college degree to be successful.

  • There are plenty of successful people without college degrees.

  • Most of the people I know who are, like, incredibly successful they don't most of them, if not all of them, don't have a college degree now.

  • Maybe a little bit different story, because most of these people are doing blue collar work, whereas you know they have a trade skill and they build up a business working that trade.

  • But then there are plenty of people that we know about that have a college degree that are also incredibly successful, in my opinion on that is that those people who are successful, we're going to be successful regardless of whether or not they went to college or didn't go to college?

  • It takes much more than a college degree to become successful is what I'm trying to say.

  • But as far as the main question is a college degree worthless, I mean, the simple answer is no, because a college degree can get you into so many doors.

  • I mean, there are many jobs that felt her based on college degrees, for example, I've had four internship coop deals within my computer science career that I never would have had the opportunity of pursuing if it wasn't for my college degree.

  • I mean, it's a simple as that.

  • And as I'm finishing up my senior year of my college degree, I've been applying to different places.

  • And you know how many places filter out college degrees are people who don't have college degrees.

  • Rather, I'm not saying it's most, but there are many that do.

  • I mean, they have but say, 50 applicants.

  • One way of filtering out.

  • Part of those applicants are saying, All right, this person has a college degree.

  • Let's keep that resume.

  • This person doesn't have a college degree.

  • Let's throw that one in the trash And I mean, that happens whether you like it or not.

  • The people who get thrown in the trash you don't have a college degree are sometimes or maybe even most of times better at programming software, for example, since I'm a computer science students offer developer than those with a cause degree.

  • I mean, a portfolio in this space will tell much more about the person and what they could do then a simple degree.

  • But whether you like it or not, you have to face the facts.

  • A college degree can get your foot in the door where otherwise not having one cannot.

  • And of course, my point of view on things in my career path on things is going to be different from yours.

  • Even if it is a longest similar path is gonna be different.

  • I mean, for all I know, you could be doing blue collar work and make a whole lot more money than any software developer there is, except for you know, those who create $1,000,000,000 companies.

  • But there's so many people who are welders, offshore welders.

  • They're plumbers who make an insane amount of money and they don't need a college degree.

  • Maybe they have one.

  • Maybe they don't, but they don't need a college degree.

  • And let me tell you one thing having a college degree does not make someone smarter than someone who doesn't have a college degree.

  • The smartest people I know don't have a college degree.

  • So what does it say about me pursuing college degree?

  • I don't really know.

  • I don't let you judge me.

  • I'm not gonna judge myself.

  • But college degrees are most definitely not worthless.

  • Whether or not they're worth it to you is a completely different story.

  • And since I haven't watched that video, maybe that's what they're kind of getting it.

  • Maybe they said the same exact thing is me where if you're trying to, you know, be an entrepreneur built a business than a college degree very well could be worthless.

  • I mean, the actual degree.

  • If you're building a business, yes, that that is worthless.

  • I don't see how that can really help yell in any which way.

  • But the knowledge you learn obtaining that college degree can help you build a business, depending on what you actually learned and how much of it that you apply into whatever business that you're trying to build so that give my point across.

  • I know it's a bit wishy washy because I know everybody is different.

  • Some people need structure, so they need to go to college in order to, you know, achieve what they want for me.

  • I've had a Web programming class that I really disliked the process at least like the first half, 1st 3/4 of the semester, even where I was creating a slack clone that I know I never would have finished unless it was for that course, like if I wasn't in that course, I was trying to build this project on my own.

  • I never would have finished it because those So I just didn't like it.

  • But by the time I finish it, I'm like, I'm so glad that I ended up finishing it, because now I have something to add to my portfolio.

  • And now I have all this knowledge that I obtained by building this application, and I never would have finished it if it wasn't for the structure of that college course and knowing that I would lose all of this money if I fail this college course.

  • So you just need to figure out what you want to do in your life.

  • I mean, if you want to be a doctor, something get a college degree.

  • If you wanna be a lawyer, get a college degree.

  • But if you want to do even software development, you don't need a college degree.

  • I mean, basically, the way I look at it, unless you're doing something that is really heavy and research or something of that nature within stem or you want to be a professor or a lawyer or a doctor, maybe I'm missing one or two things, but if you're not doing those things, then you probably don't need a college degree.

  • But college can help you take you to that next level.

  • So it's all on a case by case basis.

  • Whatever works best for you.

  • So I really hope I drove the point home that college degrees are not worthless or useless, but you don't need it either, but it can help in sub situation.

  • So I hope he has enjoyed this video.

  • If you did show some love and be sure to hit that like Button.

  • Actually, I'm pretty sure the like buttons over there over there that that's a subscribe button, if you like content like this, if you like the way I explain things, he'll like computer science, offer development or anything else you see on my channel.

  • Hit the subscribe button till next time.
