  • Um, those of you who are unfamiliar This whole idea of grampa critique was something that I wanted to do as this something to offer to patriot supporters.

  • So ah, it's currently sad thing.

  • Why?

  • I'm trying to remember my levels.

  • Silver's aku bronze, silver, gold, platinum, saku as the level the levels on my patron reward.

  • So it's for silver and above, right?

  • So s So you've got some entries here that some of the Patriot supporters have sent in somewhere completed work some more work in progress stuff.

  • So that's we want to take a look at things that people have recently finished or things that they're working on.

  • And, uh, we'll take a look at that.

  • Honestly, I think it was It was just the fast wiped me out through this early first half of this week, I was just really busting my butt.

  • Trying to get the fast ready for the stream on Wednesday and then streaming for Wednesday for like almost five hours was I don't know.

  • Maybe it just took a lot out of me more than I was expecting.

  • But, uh, yesterday I had a pretty real like a relatively relaxing day, though, uh, yesterday took most of the day off to go to the movies with my wife because she had a day off from her work.

  • So, uh, um did a little work later in the afternoon and at night, but yesterday went to the movies with my wife and we watched 1917.

  • And then also, parasite, we had a You had a double feature, so we watched both of those, both pretty good.

  • I gotta say I can understand why Both of them were nominated for this picture of the year last year for last year, depending on how much weight you you know, you want to put in the Academy Awards.

  • But both were very good.

  • Yeah, 1917.

  • What's really good?

  • I mean, although kind of relatively typical kind off war movie, But, uh, it was really interesting the way that it was done.

  • Nothing.

  • Just the story just focused, drawn like one like, you know, very small, small piece of the war wasn't him out like some major battle or anything.

  • I was just about this one very, very limited scope, but it was very cool, uh, parasite to me, honestly, like it was really good.

  • But for if you watch a lot of the those kind of movies like Independent or it wasn't a completely independent movie, but just that kind of movie, like from Korea and Japan, it was relatively familiar.

  • Like, if you see, another movie is similar to that, um, what didn't it wouldn't have, like, stood out as like the best among them.

  • There's a mean, but if you're coming from war, as I understand for probably a lot of people in the states who have maybe not seen a lot of that type of movie from this area of the world.

  • Seeing that, like for the first time, would be, like a while.

  • Sexually.

  • Pretty amazing.

  • But there's there's definitely other amazing movies that record.

  • But honestly, it reminded me a lot off three iron.

  • The Korean title is being cheap, but, uh, English titles, three iron, Like as in the golf club.

  • Three iron.

  • You should check it out if you haven't seen it.

  • It's kind of similar.

  • Reminded me a lot of that, but, uh, yes, Parasite was was certainly very well done technically, but as far as just like the general feel and the story line reminded me of other similar kind of movies.

  • Just the kind of that genre of movie here in Asia.

  • So it only took us the 15 minutes messing around with that to finally get a look at what we're doing here.

  • But all right, so this is the first get that we're looking at.

  • Excuse me.

  • Said at least for this episode of image control is gonna be a little bit clunky, but spare with me for the for the time being anyway, So Greg said in this email Ah, uh, that I didn't know you made a video about the seam lines.

  • Of course, until I got done with this one I do was turned the sea mine in the form into a pen align.

  • Also, uh, some maybe too much dry brushing on the weapons.

  • Okay, so, yes, we'll see you look through this.

  • So at least just from the first image here Ah, the colors look.

  • Five the gray and blue and a two tone blue there.

  • It's a relatively subtle difference there between the two tones.

  • Um, I don't remember if if Greg, if you're watching, I'm not sure if Greg's in the child.

  • I haven't seen him there, but, ah, if if the if Greg is airbrushing or using spray cans, I don't remember.

  • But if you're airbrushing what I would have done for the brighter blue, they're all like on the main color of the leg.

  • Just add a little bit of white or gray to that to de saturate a little bit, because you can see this the navy blue color there, which is the darker blue eyes, like a nice de saturated, uh, navy blue.

  • It's not a really bright navy, and then the gray is obviously de saturated entirely.

  • It's gray.

  • It's a little warm gray, at least from the look of this photo.

  • But you can tell the color balance of this photo is probably not writing.

  • There was probably a little bit too yellow.

  • That should be because I assume that maybe this is just with this phone.

  • My oh, Greg, you're here.

  • Okay, is this The picture isn't taking with your phone because my phone does this, too.

  • I hate this because if I have iPhone and the camera's great like under the right lighting or especially outside but inside of her here, like especially when I'm taking photos of kits here, the ah, it's always the color balance always goes to yellow.

  • That's really terribly annoying.

  • Ah, airbrushing.

  • Okay, say so.

  • At least on the colors, Greg say used airbrushing.

  • So great.

  • What I would have done was just de saturate the blue a little bit just to match with the other colors a little bit better.

  • I think, uh uh, well, maybe I would have done with that.

  • And yet he said he had the photos were taken with this phone.

  • Yes, I I understand the color balance with the phones.

  • It's kind of annoying.

  • Ah, but But I get it.

  • I get that.

  • Anyway, So, um, so I wouldn't maybe be saturated.

  • That blew a little bit, but otherwise the colors, I mean, like the color layout.

  • Everything looks cool on that.

  • Ah, the was.

  • How do we get to the next photo then?

  • Um um, see, Not that we want this one slide show on DDE hockey's to control the slide show, but I don't know what the hockey is, so let's just go automatic on a manual.

  • There's this kind of line along the inside edge of the shield.

  • That's kind of like a orangish color.

  • Is that, like, just on the edge of the shield?

  • Or is that the whole bottom piece of the shield is in that color?

  • It looks like you're just just the edge of the shield.

  • Maybe is in that orange color there.

  • And so let's see.

  • This is gonna be annoying.

  • Not so.

  • Okay.

  • So, yeah, guys, bear with me, uh, when he is manual controls here, so it's just not automatically rotating through those.

  • But the problem is, um, slide show, uh, have to use the hockey for that.

  • And I don't know what the hockey is for.

  • Oh, that orange line along the edge of the shield, uh, seems a bit out of place because it's not the same color.

  • Uh, it's not the same color as any of the other colors on the kid.

  • If it was, like, the same color as this color on the head, maybe.

  • Or if it was just like a neutral color, like white, I think.

  • Ah, Alex, how's it going, buddy?

  • We were work got cancelled, thanks to Corona virus.

  • That's cool, in a way, I guess.

  • Ah, so having this, that that stripe there along the edge, Maybe in White, I think maybe it would have been better, because even if it was matching the same color as the head is just kind of an odd placement for have color along there.

  • But if it was white or something, maybe just the fact that it's the orange and it's not the same as any other Claire around and it looks a little bit odd.

  • Um, but yeah, otherwise, I think the colors work now.

  • You mentioned, uh, in your email about the dry brushing on the brush, and I was looking at this just just previously, Dr.

  • Rushing on the Weapons and the driver Shing on the rifle, I think is right about at that level where it's like just almost too much.

  • I think it's still doesn't look bad.

  • I think it still looks fine as it is.

  • It's pretty heavily dry brushed on there.

  • Uh, like maybe up around here at the tip.

  • It's maybe a little bit too much.

  • But at least for like, the main body of the weapon, it's still possible.

  • I think like that.

  • So I think it's not quite over the edge.

  • Words definitely too much.

  • It's gold.

  • Okay, Sorry.

  • Uh, Greg mentioned the line there on the shield is gold, not orange.

  • Okay, but, uh, yes, in your, uh So, uh, the rifle that I think looks OK like that.

  • Uh, the bazooka the the two tone colors doesn't doesn't quite work for me having the end parts in much shiny er a silver color.

  • I'm not exactly sure what color, but looks like.

  • Maybe you just like gunmetal for, like, the main color and the ends.

  • Aaron, like a brighter silver kind of color s.

  • I'm not sure exactly what color that is.

  • Almost like, uh, on iron color or something like that.

  • Um, it just it it looks more like, uh, the two end parts were more convenient to paint because they're separate parts.

  • And so that's why they're a different color.

  • They don't necessarily look convincing.

  • Like they were a separate color.

  • Like, uh, like for any realistic reason.

  • Like for example, the center part a TTE the front of the rifle at the front of the bazooka.

  • Not the very end part, but the middle part, kind of between the front handle and from part that part of the bazooka.

  • If that wasn't like a different if that was in the second color, I think it would have been better.

  • So that would have required you to do a little bit of masking there.

  • But I think that would have been it would have been better for the secondary color rather than the two ends.

  • It looks a little bit like that.

  • Having the two ends of that just don't like that.

  • But as for the seam line you mentioned for the arms Ah, here.

  • He said he hadn't seen my video on how to remove this steam line there in the forums yet.

  • So what he did was just turned that into a panel line.

  • Uh, and I would recommend Greg, if you haven't I I'm sure you're aware of the tool that I use the damn mode tool that I use for turning Penhall lines into seam lines.

  • I've used in a couple different videos.

  • I would recommend getting one of those because it just works a lot better for doing that.

  • Uh, with this it looks like what he did was either used his hobby knife or file to just devil.

  • The edge of that, which is it is a way to turn a pedal in into a seam line.

  • That's the easy way to do that.

  • The problem is that usually a panel, a panel line is a square.

  • You know, it's a square shaped like that square channel for a final line.

  • When you do it by just doubling the edges, the dinner turns into a V shape and a V shaped, Uh, In that case, you should do it real, like really lightly on this one.

  • It's a it's quite wide deep.

  • I don't know how to describe that quite big V shape, uh, there.

  • So it's not quite as convincing as if you were to have done just just very little bit.

  • Or if you are doing it with, uh, with, like the demo tool that that turns it into a square square line, a square cut out of the edge.

  • Uh, so if you don't have one of those, I would recommend getting one for future use.

  • Otherwise, if you are going to do like this style again, ah, then I would just recommend going as minimal as possible at first, just so that it's an apparent line.

  • You don't have to worry about taking so much out of the park.

  • And also I would recommend just throwing some panel in washing there.

  • It doesn't look like like maybe, and Greg is here so he can answer for us.

  • But if you use some gray panel in washing that, or if that's just natural shadow in this, I'm not sure I like in a couple hours.

  • It looks like there's no pen align washing there in the great parts.

  • And like here, unlike the shoulder, the blue shoulder, it doesn't look like there's any penalizing wash in there.

  • So, just like for the blue parts, I would use black Penhall unwashed just to bring out some of those details a little more on the shoulder there.

  • Ah, and like the top of the head.

  • Yeah, I'm not sure looking at the top of the head, it looks like there's some fennel in washing there, So maybe he did do some penalizing on some areas, but less in other areas.

  • Um, it's natural shadow.

  • OK?

  • Eso Ah yeah.

  • Concert is going into doing some battle ending on that.

  • Also pen aligning on the inside of these parts.

  • Let me see.

  • Where is the close up area?

  • Uh, for the ah ah musica armor.

  • Bazooka Ammo packs there on the shoulder.

  • Ah, it looks like what you did.

  • And you can correct me if I'm wrong, but I've done this before as well, so I can recognize this is what it looks like for the orange in the holes in the bazooka, uh, ammo packs.

  • It looks like maybe you just took some orange paint and just dripped it in there with the brush.

  • And then maybe just, like, cleaned up around the edge, huh?

  • With the Q tip or whatever, if you had any excess around the edge, so just feel that.

  • And with a little bit of orange paint, it is that is that correct?

  • Great.

  • That I've done that before.

  • And that's what it looks like.

  • Uh, that doing it that way works very easily for a small little holes.

  • But because those are really big holes, you have the paint looking like this where it's not, uh yeah, okay.

  • Said he was just tripped something.

  • Uh, what you end up with is what you can see here.

  • How in the center of the whole you, the paint will gather to the edge and then also pool in the center.

  • It's like what you're seeing there you have the paint filling in the edges of the circle and then, ah, pool in the center.

  • And then in between there you have the space where the color is not like, totally filled in.

  • So you can do in that case is that it's add more pain and more pain and keep laying that on until you get a solid color to fill that hole now.

  • But you're also just adding in the ton of paint in there, which is not it's not really gonna look the best.

  • The better way to do that.

  • What I would recommend to you is to panel line that first, if you're going to do it just by hand, brush the problem with that part, though, and this is something I should probably I should try to demonstrate this in a future video because it's a common issue that I often run into, Uh, with that part, you have a seam line through the middle of it.

  • So that hole inside there is not contained.

  • If you drip paint into their some of the paint is gonna leak inside the part because, ah, that there's a seam line in there.

  • So I think I can draw on this to try to illustrate that.

  • Basically, uh, okay, bear with this illustration here.

  • So this is how the two halves of that part go together.

  • And so when you put them together, when you put these together, this space here, I will not be closed up tightly unless you surely fill that area and with blue.

  • So normally, when we're worried about getting rid of the seam lines between the parts, we would worry about the seam line here because that would be like the top part they were seeing.

  • This this seam line is, is within.

  • That is within that circle.

  • So you're not ever going to see that part of the seam line, so it really doesn't matter about filling it in.

  • But if you want to drip some paint into there, it is gonna matter because if that's not glued together tightly when the pain is gonna leak through into that part basically, which I think you can maybe see, that could be maybe what's happening here.

  • And like the very bottom circle, you can see how, like the edge of that is not perfectly clean.

  • Probably either.

  • Just he missed that part a little bit with the brush or what happened with some paint leaked down into the part eso.

  • Either way, what I would recommend doing is make sure that the part is that it's totally filled with glue in there first, so that later on, when you dripped paint in there or your pen align, wash whatever you put down into their later, it's not leaking onto the inside of the part.

  • Uh, and then before you put the paint in, well, I would do is just, uh, drops in panel on washing their first wait for that to dry.

  • Clean that up so that you have a nice defined black ring around there for your panel in washing side, and then that'll basically serve as the outline that when you go in and you just wanna hand brush that end with a little bit of orange paint or something.

  • Uh, you gonna brush that in?

  • And basically, it's like, um, like, a coloring book or something.

  • You know where your coloring within the lines You're just feeling You're just painting in the circle within the black line that already exists there of penalty in wash they already have inside there, If that makes sense, I don't know that, Uh, not the easiest thing to explain without visual representation.

  • Still, maybe I'll have to try to demonstrate that in the future on a video.

  • But if that makes sense, that's why would recommend for that I can recognize that issue because I've seen it.

  • I've done it multiple times before.

  • Ah, um, there there's better ways around that.

  • Or what you can do, of course, is just get, uh, like a photo.

  • Which parts work really great for this particular thing you get?

  • There's a ton of just different circle for which parts in getting just drop into there and paint those That's really easy as well and gives a really good effect.

  • Of course, photo Which parts look really nice.

  • Um, so let me see.

  • Just got the Sorry.

  • My phone dinged here with the notice that my PG strike is not on the way but ready to be on the way.

  • So I'll have to order that sense.

  • That's good news.

  • S Oh, yeah, I think.

  • Yeah.

  • I can see you know, some of the issues.

  • I have issues that I'm familiar with, things I have done in the past.

  • Certainly, uh, here with the bill.

  • But ultimately, they just the style I like.

  • I like the new color scheme you've gone with for this, Although, like I said, I would have adjusted the bright blue a little bit.

  • I liked the strife on the top of the head, Um, and the dry brushing.

  • I think it's not that bad.

  • Why would do for dry brushing is maybe to practice a little bit of dry brushing on the stoop as well on the thing about Dr Rushing.

  • Although, uh, although I'm still very new to dry brushing myself Just what I can tell you just from my experience and just from what I know about Dr Rushing in general is just that you know, the lighter you go, the better just start as light as possible.

  • And you can always add more and more and more.

  • It can build it up with layers over time.

  • Your heavy right from the start.

  • It's very easy to it's very difficult to turn it back once you've already got a heavy on their you basically have to just get rid of the whole thing and start over.

  • So best thing is just go really light.

  • And so what I would do is just maybe go to the suits just goingto like some of the naturally Maur weather areas.

  • You know, like the shoulder of the knees are on the feet.

  • Just do really, really like Abra Dr Rushing on there a little bit.

  • And, you know, maybe just a little bit will be all all you want for that or you can build it up a little bit more and more if you want going to finish up some of the panel lining on that adds more decals and stuff as well.

  • So nice and cool markings on that and, uh, you be good.

  • Uh oh.

  • It's kind of hard to see from the photos, but it looks like the yellow for the camera lens was also just hand drift with a brush in the same way that we were talking about for the bazooka ammo packs.

  • In which case Ah, basically the same same thing would apply.

  • Uh, I would just just for those camera lenses for your weapons like that.

  • The same thing I would if you're gonna hand brush that it's a panel line at first to create an outline and then you can have paint in the outline is better.

  • I know that that particular rifle, though, is kind of hard because the definition of that circle, it's not a very deep defined line.

  • There's not very deep to find a shape for that.

  • So it's a little bit kind of tricky rifle to get the camera done on that.

  • I understand that.

  • So All right.

  • I don't know, but with Roberto's here, my first reaction is that I like the colors.

  • I like the colors for this.

  • How he swapped the chest here instead of blue has black.

  • So I got the black black theme going on there.

  • That blue part is also swept to black.

  • So he just got rid of the blue on the kid entirely, which I appreciate.

  • So you got rid of kind of the typical Gundam tri color theme.

  • Just changes up just a little bit.

  • Well, I kind of I don't always stick to this, but it's kind of a general rule that I kind of usually think of in my head when I'm doing vehicles is to always have, like around the same number of decals on each part.

  • In that way, I I can know not to overdo it.

  • So, like generally, like on each main big armor panel toe, have like two or three decals like no more, no less between two or three.

  • I don't like that, for example.

  • So if if I've got, like a really large piece that I think like, Oh, I've got a lot of open areas I could put another D Kyle there because it's quite, um a y, a larger area.

  • But if I've already got this kind of rule and I had to kind of stick to, like three decals per piece maximum, then it kind of helps to give a uniformity to the kid.

  • I think if you got one piece that has six decals on it next to another piece that has to decals Oniy, even though they're, you know, maybe it's a large piece in a small piece, and so it kind of makes sense in that way.

  • I think it just looks nicer, really.

  • In my opinion, it just seems to fit better If there's a kind of uniformity to like the number of decals per piece.

  • And of course, you have to think about the arrangement of the decals like realistically, too.

  • If you just gotta de Cali, just like on some edge of the part where there's, like nothing there.

  • That doesn't seem to be any reason why there's a decal there next to nothing.

  • Then it doesn't really make sense.

  • You have to think about like, realistically, what's the reason to have some sort of marking on your kit there?

  • One thing that I've seen people use is black plastic gloves.

  • It's like the, you know, like the surgical gloves like this black, but the black ones of those You don't have to paint it or anything.

  • So you just take one of those and, you know, you just have the finger.

  • You just cut off a section of the finger and you can use that s o your joint cover speaking.

  • Is that those work?

  • Otherwise, just regular plastic bags.

  • It was like a black plastic bag.

  • Um, we can do is just cut a section of that and then or it'll just be on.

  • It'll be sealed like on one edge.

  • But to seal the other side to basically recreate the same thing that you get from Bandai.

  • Essentially, you just need to use high iron or something like that just to melt the other side, too.

  • Just seal it so that you're creating a tube with just a black plastic bag.

  • But there's other ways to do that.

  • Or you can use a heat shrink too, if you want.

  • Scott, the ghost of Z on has a video ages ago on his YouTube general that he did showing how to do that with, uh, with heat shrink material as well is another option or well, you could do also if you're not worried about heavy.

  • If you want to just make the joint fakes and joy and not have any movement any more.

  • If you want to just fix it in place, you could just re create that with epoxy putty.

  • Uh, just lay some epoxy putty done over that, and then just use something to some blunt tool to just create the wrinkles in the fabric.
