  • Well, this is a bit of a weird one, isn't it?

  • You probably heard that the Geneva Motor Show has been canceled since the Swiss government banned events of 1000 people or more.

  • And yet here we are, inside the stripped out, largely abandoned hole.

  • This place should be teeming with sweaty, slightly stressed out people in suits.

  • And yet it isn't.

  • We heard the Koenigsegg still wanted to do it big reveal from its show stand.

  • So we said, Can we come along?

  • Yes, this is what we're here to see.

  • A new breed of Koenigsegg.

  • It's called the gym era, and it is, quite simply, a four seat Hypercar hyper car performance.

  • But with cup holders and heated seats, and it's really they're gonna make 300 of these.

  • This is the finished production machine, and it's fast, as you'd expect really fast.

  • It's got 1700 horsepower, but it's a plug in.

  • Hybrid will be 30 miles on electric power alone.

  • Electricity part contributes about 1100 horsepower.

  • Two motors on the back axle.

  • Another one on the crankshaft combustion part comes from Get this a three cylinder, two litre twin turbo dry, some free valve engine three cylinder engine producing 600 horsepower.

  • That's 200 horsepower per cylinder.

  • Mind officially, bone.

  • In fact, there's probably only one man in the entire world that actually understands, truly understands how this car works and why it exists.

  • And it's the boss man himself.

  • Christian von Konig Christian.

  • Thank you for having us along to the Koenigsegg Motor Show.

  • Well, thank you for coming to mayhem.

  • You know, it's falling apart around us.

  • Bad.

  • We built our own little offense here and pretend like nothing happened.

  • Yeah, Yes, we're sorry for the noises in the background, but it is literally stripping out the show.

  • Everything is falling down as we speak.

  • Wow, look at this.

  • How long you've been keeping this?

  • Uh, so the idea started back in 2000 and three way had our first son in 2001 and I started thinking how to get the family on board.

  • Do I have to dilute the like supercar mega car idea if we have more seats.

  • So I started making seeding box and things back then, but the timing wasn't right.

  • You were too small.

  • The technology to package everything wasn't really there, so we had, like two or three almost starts over the years.

  • But down two years ago, I said, Now we're going to do it.

  • Tell us about the name Jim era.

  • What's that mean?

  • Yes.

  • So we were, of course, thinking about what should be called the car.

  • And we were having a family dinner with my parents, and my mother came up with the name.

  • Usually we tried to do something Swedish G e is to give in Swedish on Mira is more so to give more.

  • You get more seats to get more space.

  • You get more.

  • You can share the exciting.

  • It's more excitement.

  • Onda.

  • Hopefully very little drawback.

  • All right, well, speaking of excitement, take us through the powertrain 1st 1st of all, it is a new Damjan combustion car, so it's in my mind it's a proper, like a traditional concept of a mayor.

  • Cory have the capacity, and in the middle you have the mid engine look.

  • But then there's some tricks to this.

  • It's only a three senator, but it's got our unique, free Val technology that really transformed the way the engine can respond and sound and how it can run in this case.

  • Twin terrible set up in sequential ways with the use of these three valves.

  • So we have 400 Newton meters of torque at 1700 rpm from a three senator, but it's still red.

  • 88 and 1/2 Andi have 600 new two meters over a broad range.

  • We have 600 horsepower.

  • Engine only weighs 70 kilos.

  • So it was, I think, in this modern environment of downsizing and being frugal and being able to Ronald C O to neutral fuels.

  • This engine is designed for bio fuels for solar fuels.

  • You can run it in worst case on patrol.

  • They have this flex fuel capability, but that's not the idea.

  • It's like running on TV on cold power from a coal plant.

  • You can't do it, but you should.

  • But also for packaging is, well, you need to get two rows of seats.

  • Need to get the engine in your needle.

  • That's motors, so it needed to be tiny on.

  • We actually have a prop shaft going from the capacity and into the front wheels, so it's mid engine front wheel drives with the help of our direct drive system, so they let you go to this on the crankshaft.

  • You got three cylinder engine motor on the crank show?

  • Yes, it's total over 1000.

  • Horse power is all so new to me.

  • Just on the front.

  • And then, yeah, What?

  • 11 500 horsepower electric motor each reach where we with a house, a new two meters each.

  • When you combine all these numbers in a speed range, we don't top up the power levels, on top of which I do want to spread them out for tours.

  • So if you look at our curves, we have 3500 new two meters of torque and 1700 combined horsepower.

  • So this thing with four, we'll drive four wheel torque, vectoring away, foreign steering it can to Syria to 16 1.9 seconds on top.

  • Speed is 250 miles per hour.

  • Fast enough on it has a range of 1000 kilometers.

  • If you juice up the battery full, that is 50 kilometer range with only battery lives under the front seats.

  • Okay, so how big is it?

  • Lets a usable 50 kilowatt hours Just give us the elevator pitch.

  • How does free work for Right?

  • So even the people who are not so versed in combustion is knows, knows what a camshaft looked like.

  • It's kind of a little thing with the tube on top of the vows with with, uh, loops on them, pushing the valves up and down with the space.

  • We throw that away, and then we put actuators over each valve so we can operate them individually when we won't open them.

  • How much we want open and stay open with a camshaft.

  • If you would stay open, we would need to have a square capture profile, and it would jump off of the corners off the camp.

  • So here, But as we don't have that, we can stay open, wait for the piston and then go back or open half completely individual.

  • So when you have four vowels in one cylinder, normally camshaft you open those to you.

  • Close those to us here we can use play different heights, not opening this one only open for one turbot open for two turbos way thro ttle inside the cylinder from one combustion cycle to another, we can go from minimum power to maximum.

  • There is no gasping.

  • There's no feeling on air into Aaron takes everything happens live in the combustion chamber and the most efficient way possible.

  • So we can use a I We work together with a company in Austin, Texas.

  • So we have a I control for the other because it's so complex.

  • Other way Just popped their head so you can take a look at the short end.

  • It is, of course, that this was straight six.

  • Yeah, I would be back here.

  • Oh, yeah, exactly.

  • So we use that space for something else.

  • Yes, your personalized liking to the name of the one in the front.

  • Three in the in the rear, Full size carry ons.

  • Just when we're here.

  • Yeah, so I mean, we're working heavily with a crop of it on this titanium exhaust system to make this three cylinder sound proper.

  • The reasons.

  • Quite an interesting noise.

  • Yeah, exactly.

  • And I've been listening on three Let's cylinders for a year now to try to make up my mind what's different with this one?

  • It's a very big one.

  • Normally, a threesome is like a one liter, and this is a truly trendy.

  • So we have similar sized pistons and stroke and board like an r V eight.

  • So every combustion is big, but it's just fewer on them.

  • But we can even run to stroke with this in certain rpm range, then it sounds like a straight six.

  • You can really play with three vows and a titanium exo systems, some echoing effect.

  • It will have a very unique sound, but a big sound.

  • It's not like a silly time.

  • Let's talk about the way this collect straight way.

  • Notice it.

  • Sure, we tricked the eye a little bit.

  • Everything is blown up proportionately.

  • So we have 22 injuries.

  • The largest carbon fiber wheels, 21 inch in front.

  • So they are bigger on.

  • Then there is no handle on the door like a normal don't have.

  • So there is no like human size component that you can reference for the fight of the car.

  • So if you take it like a normal comes in a press like lauded by 1.25% it becomes this.

  • This reeks of you, you said.

  • I want the full seats, but it has to have one door.

  • No B pillar.

  • So you're this'll was a nightmare inside, So the hinges very beefy.

  • It's actually hollow steel now instead of aluminium because he needed that stiffness.

  • And then it's a lot of carbon fibre reinforcements in the door.

  • But the twisted part, which is our new pattern, is but by not adding any component So we did it first for the Esko.

  • We kind of bent around the parts in cat.

  • And suddenly we got another feature that the door doesn't not only swing out and rotate, it also swings upwards so you can clear a ll the Kirk.

  • Also, that large roof structure gives a lot of rigidity.

  • So this is what?

  • As far as we're aware, it's the stiffest four seater car.

  • The planet from actual two accidents.

  • 40,000 new to me, just for degrees difference.

  • So what's the takeaway?

  • Yeah, so that's the advantage off.

  • Smaller battery pack.

  • Super efficient s'more combustion.

  • Anyone?

  • Lot of power.

  • Our aim is 89 80 Curb weight with almost a full tank of fuel.

  • On with this kind of performance power level range.

  • This was pure electric.

  • Our calculations sets like 2.3 tones.

  • Maybe so that that is the advantage support from if you like, sound.

  • So you're preempting.

  • My question is why didn't you just make it?

  • That's the least.

  • We can make it lighter for the same type of power and size.

  • But of course, performance becomes also better because when it's like breaking, the gun's better cornering because better and exit acceleration.

  • How did you feel when it's like yours?

  • This thing coming towards you?

  • Watch out Scary.

  • You got your own.

  • Here will be wireless phone shop on.

  • Then you have eight cup holders.

  • Uh, one hoped in one cold for each person, they will be a little bit bigger in the final.

  • We actually put a Peltier element in between the front and rear couplers on each side.

  • So when one hold it gets hope, the other gets cold from the Peltier effect, so you can keep your milkshake going there for a hour or two on watch Netflix Andi travel at four under kilometers per hour.

  • Big screen in the back, big screen in the front.

  • You're saying it's it's, uh, you know, a second class Know if you're in the back, I envision this car like, of course, we'll see if that ever happens.

  • But someone driving up to the Oscars goal out there is the red carpet there and the star climbs out from the back.

  • There is no folding of seats or past to be popular.

  • You walk out kind of gracefully as well as you were sitting in the front.

  • I think it's that simple.

  • It is a mega car accounting sig mega car with two more seats.

  • And of course, there is no bracket in the industry for this, the most extreme luxury or expensive foresee tricking it is the Rolls Royce.

  • This has nothing to do with their old sores.

  • It's a completely different experience.

  • We kind of sort us a hole in the marketplace.

  • I've built it because I wanted it personally.

  • This is my type of car, and that didn't exist.

  • Okay, so you're gonna build three under these cause.

  • That's quite a lot for kind of.

  • It is a new benchmark for us.

  • I mean, we did 80 of their gear out that sold out quicker than we thought.

  • So we raised the bar with the escort, said, Let's try from 25 that went in a few days.

  • That was last year on.

  • This is a little bit more of the family corner, so also it comes in a slightly lower price bracket.

  • And in order to make the noises Yeah, I can.

  • But I want to make that work.

  • We need the Libert higher volume.

  • So I think the new marketplace, the unique segment slightly lower but still expensive price makes it possible.

  • So in in the U.

  • S.

  • Dollar land that they started like in that region that started 1.7 points.

  • Still very expensive.

  • Still very expensive, but you get the same.

  • But with two more seats more Jim era Amira, that's very well.

  • I can confidently say it's the star of the show.

  • I think I believe you.

  • Thanks.

Well, this is a bit of a weird one, isn't it?
