  • Hi, I'm Qiang Tu, or in Chinese we say Tu Qiang.

  • I'm a cellist with the New York Philharmonic.

  • My dad, he thought it might be the best

  • thing for us to learn something which he knows the best.

  • So therefore we started to learn Cello from my father.

  • When my father decided to make our instrument,

  • the first, my 1/2 sized cello.

  • We used one part with wood from our mattress

  • to build my very first cello.

  • 1987 I decide to come to US to continue to study.

  • Still had a tough time when I came.

  • That time we are only allowed to carry $30 US currency.

  • In 1995 I'm going to New York Philharmonic

  • as a first Chinese born musician.

  • I still remember my very first time to play with orchestra.

  • I was so nervous and excited.

  • Suddenly I see all this film stars sit next to me.

  • Later when we started the play, the orchestra's sound

  • really knocked off me.

  • It's amazing.

  • I'm so proud that we can be a part with this group.
