  • What you eat and drink can make a huge difference as you try to stay healthy during the Corona virus scare, says dietitian Maya Feller.

  • First tip.

  • Drink lots and lots of water.

  • Hydration is going to be incredibly important because water is important for all of our cellular functioning.

  • So making sure that you get if you're a woman, two liters of water per day and a man, three liters of water leaders thistles the equivalent of two liters of water just over 1/2 gallon and three leaders is about 3/4 of a gallon.

  • Feller tells reporter Alison Hall that certain foods can boost your immune system.

  • So what you really want to do is look toward foods like the's things that are in their hole and minimally processed form.

  • Berries are rich in antioxidants.

  • Strawberry specifically, I really want to take a bite of this one are a great source of vitamin C.

  • We've got blueberries.

  • These darker skin ones tend to have resveratrol also really important for your immune function.

  • Almonds, one of my absolute favorite, filled with protein, fiber, vitamin e, also important for immune function, garlic and onion are known for their anti oxidant capabilities as well as anti microbial capabilities.

  • Fiber is also important for your immune system to ward off germs and viruses.

  • So spinach and the apple and the eggplant really, really great for getting your daily fiber.

  • Fish is highly recommended salmon and their omega three fatty acids and the lean proteins also really important in all of your body's functions.

  • And what about eggs?

  • Those will help my immune system to Oh my goodness, eggs, I mean, actually eggs or like a little super food.

  • They've got coleene.

  • They have so many vitamins and minerals in there, incredible source of protein foods to give you that extra punch during these anxious days.

  • An anxious day around the world with Wall Street's suffering its worst day since 2008 concerns for the economy due to Corona virus have been exacerbated by an oil price war.

  • And while the number of Corona virus cases continues to decline in China, there have been spikes in Italy, Germany and in Spain.

  • Here in this country, 34 states report at least one case, and health experts say the best way to prevent the spread is to keep a safe distance from one another.

  • The prudent thing to do is self quarantine if you think you've had contact with a known Corona virus patient and to stay home if you're suffering a fever or flu like symptoms.

  • But how do you keep from going?

  • Stir crazy?

  • Les Trent spoke with a couple who are healthy, but they're staying home after being at synagogue with a man now hospitalized with the virus.

  • And here's how they're coping.

  • This is one way Ellen Heilmann copes with self quarantine gardening, and this is how her husband, Samuel, gets his exercise walking laps around the yard, literally walking in circles.

  • Samuel and Ellen are in self imposed isolation at their home in Westchester County, New York, after attending the same synagogue as lawyer Lawrence Garbus, who is hospitalized in critical condition with Corona virus.

  • We are currently in quarantine until the 14th.

  • 73 year old Samuel is a professor of sociology.

  • He's trying to make the best of his situation by working on a book at home, 72 year old Ellen, a psychologist is seeing her patients via facetime on downtime.

  • She's also making the best of these difficult days.

  • I'm trying to organize my household's catch up on reading and even a little yoga.

  • Ellen, you got stir crazy.

  • They've even made a lighthearted video for their grandkids, in which Ellen tries to escape quarantine.

  • Get away from the window.

  • Thousands of Americans are now believed to be in self quarantine.

  • Now lifestyle expert Trey Bajaj has advice for anyone in quarantine or facing quarantine in the future.

  • It's a good time to organize your basement.

  • It's a good time to iron your clothes or do some sewing projects.

  • Things like that to keep you busy will be great, especially if you're home for 2 to 3 weeks.

  • Disinfecting the home is a quarantine.

  • Must.

  • Those common areas is what's really important here.

  • So what that means is anything that you may have touched that other members of your family are.

  • Guests may have touched so door knobs, Bannister's counters, anything like that should be wiped down with disinfectant wipes or disinfectant spray to make sure that you're killing those germs.

  • And here's a quarantine.

  • No, no, you don't want to share linens, towels, anything like that with anyone else in your family.
