  • six years ago, Fresh out of university, I packed my bags and moved to Japan toe work as an English teacher where I found myself randomly placed in the beautiful, far flung region of Yamagata, along Japan's remote northwest coastline.

  • However, as much as I reveled in the adventurous lifestyle of living in rural Japan after one year, I'd failed to forge any meaningful connections with the locals amidst the language barrier and a culture I struggled to comprehend.
