(AIKO) Hello, world! Where I'm from in Japan, this is what the streets of Tokyo are like.

(GREG) Traveling by train is a great way to see Tokyo in all its compact glory.

Today we're taking you to Asakusa, which has a traditional atmosphere.

(GREG) What's your favorite part of Asakusa? (AIKO) Buying stuff.

(GREG) Oh! Buying the stuff! (AIKO) Yeah.

(GREG) All right. Do you like Asakusa? (SHIN) Yup.

(GREG) OK. What do you like about it? (SHIN) Um... They have a park.

(GREG) Oh. Do you like the park? (SHIN) Yeah.

(GREG) So what kind of street is this? (SHIN) The "Shōten gai".

(GREG) Are there cars on there? (AIKO) Nope, because this is a street to walk and there's lots of little shops,

(SHIN) They have "katsudon" and stuff right here, like "We have Katsudon!" and stuff and Tsuchiya-san.

And they have a golden poop right here. And can you see the golden poop?

(GREG) Yeah, I can. (SHIN) The golden poop! The golden...

(GREG) H-how do you feel when you walk across these streets? (SHIN) Mmm... Boooring.

(GREG) What are those yellow strips? (AIKO) They are for people who are blind.

(GREG) And so what are you looking at now? (SHIN) Um... The golden poop.

(GREG) Why are you so obsessed with the golden poop? (SHIN) Because it's a golden poop.

(AIKO) Here is the golden poop on that building. People say it looks like a poop,

but it was supposed to be up, but it fell down when they were making it, so it's just like that.

It's really a golden flame, which is a trademark of the French designer of the building.

(SHIN) La la la la, la la lan. La la la la, la la lan.

(GREG) So what are those railings for? (AIKO) So people won't get hit by a car.

(GREG) Where are we going now? Do you remember? (AIKO) "Makudonarudo".

(GREG) And what's that in English? (AIKO) I don't know.

(GREG) So did you know that where you're walking right now is called an "arcade". (AIKO) Oh!

(GREG) Not like video game arcade, but an arcade mall, where you walk around. (AIKO) Oh!

(GREG) What do those bikes do? (AIKO) They are delivery.

(SHIN) I'm hungry! I'm hungry! I'm sandy!

(GREG) What's that? What's that? (SHIN) Um... I don't know. A couch? And...

In Japanese it's called "yin rikisha", which literally means "human powered vehicle (or car)", so Shin was not wrong.

(AIKO) This is a monkey bar. (SHIN) The hand was other side.

(GREG) Oh she was doing the hand the wrong way? (SHIN) Yeah.

(GREG) Oh! That's why she fell. (SHIN) Yeah. And I did it.

(GREG) Well, you're like a monkey. That's why. (SHIN) Yeah.

(GREG) What's this called in Japanese? (AIKO) "Jangurujimu".

(GREG) Oh. That's just like "jungle gym" in English. (AIKO) Yeah.

(GREG) Do you have this at your school? (AIKO) Yes.

(GREG) The area we're walking in contains both Buddhist and Shinto religions.

Right now  we're going toward Sensō-ji, which is a Buddhist temple.

And we'll pass thru the Hozōmon gate, which means "Treasure-House Gate".

Do you know what those big lanterns are called in Japanese?

(GREG) Neither do I. (SHIN) Little ones are called "chōchin".

(GREG) Well, what happened? (AIKO) I couldn't breath right here, but I was normal.

(GREG) People seem to like the smoke. (AIKO) Well, I don't know what happened but it's kinda good.

(GREG) Good luck? (AIKO) Yeah. Good luck.

(GREG) What were you doing? Did you put it on your head or something? (SHIN) Yup. And I gave it to the Pokemon.

(GREG) Because you gave him the smoke, the lucky smoke.

Now we're passing the Shinto Asakusa shrine, where you can see the "torii" gate.

(GREG) What's this gate called? (AIKO) I don't know. I don't think it has a name.

(GREG) The gate is actually called "Niten-mon" and it's Buddhist.

(AIKO) This is for cars that can go up (GREG) Yeah. Like go up the curve?

(AIKO) Yup. (SHIN) (humming) Tada tada. Ta tada tada.

(making a funny voice) Ooh? What is this? A pokeball! I'll catch a Pokemon.

(GREG) OK. So what time of day is it right now? (AIKO) Um... 5 o'clock.

(GREG) And one thing I noticed when I was looking at all of this footage was... look at all those bikes! (AIKO) Yeah. There's lots and lots of bikes.

(GREG) So you have people on the road biking and people on the sidewalk biking. Are bikes popular in Japan?

(AIKO) Cars are expensive and you can go far places with trains.

So you don't need a car. So you want a bike. So they have lots of bikes.

(GREG) And there's also lots of moms with kids. See? Baby in the front, baby in the back. Baby in the front, baby in the back.

So what do you think about walking around. (SHIN) Boring.

(GREG) Do you like walking around (SHIN) No. I wanted to do Pokemon Go.

(GREG) What was the worst thing about walking? (AIKO) Tired.

(AIKO) When I was walking, I was tired and hungry.

(GREG) How come? (AIKO) Because I usually get tired of walking.

(GREG) (laughs) Who had more energy, Shin or you? (AIKO) Shin.

(GREG) Well, how come he didn't get tired. He has smaller legs. (AIKO) Well, he has lots and lots and lots of energy.

(GREG) What is that, Shin. (SHIN) "To - ma - re". It means "stop".

(GREG) What kind of bike is that? (AIKO) I don't know.

(GREG) It's a delivery bike for... alcohol. (AIKO) Yeah. Wait... What?

(AIKO) Well, inside the white line is where people can go and outside of the line is where cars go.
