  • NARRATOR: In Orange Grove, rookie captain Brock Theriot

  • and his deckhand Aaron Lee have set 60 lines

  • in a promising new area, and they're counting on catching

  • a boatload of monsters.

  • [dramatic music]

  • BROCK: Oh my god.

  • NARRATOR: But it turns out Mother Nature has other ideas.

  • I mean, every single bait we've

  • got that's down I promise you is going to be

  • knocked down by these lilies.

  • NARRATOR: Overnight, a wall of lilies

  • has clogged the entire canal.

  • A more seasoned skipper may have seen this coming.

  • BROCK: It looks like straight land.

  • Dude, them lilies came out of nowhere.

  • NARRATOR: Untethered by roots, huge swaths of floating lilies

  • ride the wind and can choke up a bayou without warning, wreaking

  • havoc on alligator hunters.

  • The lilies, they move in.

  • They knock the bait off the lines.

  • And man, that's just killing us.

  • Regardless of the circumstances, we have to get alligators,

  • and we have to get big alligators in the boat.

  • So we need to figure something else out to boost our luck.

  • Do you think an alligator's playing in that?

  • No.

  • You can't do nothing with that.

  • I don't know.

  • We could try sniping open water.

  • We could do treble hooking.

  • But we got to move to a different canal.

  • Yeah.

  • BROCK Hey, man, let's just pack it up.

  • And let's just go to the next spot.

  • NARRATOR: Hoping to salvage the day,

  • Brock decides to move to an area they've

  • never hunted using tactics they've never tried before--

  • sniping on open water.

  • BROCK: Hey, slow down.

  • When it comes to sniping, it's just not easy.

  • You've got a small bullet trying to hit

  • a quarter-sized kill spot.

  • And you know, there's just so many variables.

  • Everything has to go perfect in order to snipe a gator.

  • Hey, we got one.

  • Dude, look at that alligator.

  • Look at that alligator.

  • Oh my god, dude.

  • Hey, I'mma get on the right side of the canal.

  • So if he starts going down, you'll be right over his head.

  • BROCK: Oh my god-- the size of that alligator.

  • [gunshot]

  • Damn!

  • AARON: Go, go, go, go, go.

  • [gunshot] - Damn!

  • Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go!

  • [suspenseful music]

  • AARON: He's going.

  • BROCK: I just don't understand.

  • That was a good-ass shot.

  • AARON: You're wrong about this one, chief.

  • You missed.

  • We shot over him.

  • Whenever you have a big gator taken from you like that,

  • it's a big slap in the face.

  • But it's also, you know, motivation to do better.

  • It's a tough pill to swallow.

  • NARRATOR: The young hunters' inexperience

  • let the gators slip away.

  • Now they're determined to find him.

  • BROCK: Just chill.

  • Just chill.

  • He goes down, I'mma grab the treble hook.

  • And I'mma snag him.

  • If he goes down, start the boat.

  • [engine starting]

  • Keep straight.

  • Keep straight-- right there.

  • Just go slow.

  • Hey, you go on the left side of the bubbles.

  • I'll go on the right.

  • Aw, come on, baby!

  • Woo!

  • He's burning my-- he's burning my hand.

  • [grunts] AARON: Where's he at?

  • Where's he at? Where's he at?

  • BROCK: [grunts]

  • Treble hook down there.

  • Just try and get him.

  • Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.

  • Got him?

  • AARON: I just stuck him too.

  • Hurry up.

  • He's going back to his little camp.

  • BROCK: Where's he going?

  • AARON: He came up.

  • He came up for air.

  • Go straight. Go straight.

  • Go straight. Go straight.

  • All right, all right, all right, all right.

  • He's on the bottom right.

  • He's on the bottom.

  • [splashing]

  • [suspenseful music]

  • BROCK: Oh, yeah, baby!

  • Yeah!

  • AARON: I got him.

  • I got him.

  • Get the gun. Get the gun.

  • Get the gun. Get the gun.

  • It's right here. Hurry up.

  • Hurry up. Hurry up.

  • Hurry up.

  • Hurry up. Watch out.

  • Watch out. Watch out.

  • Watch out.

  • Watch out.

  • [gunshot]

  • BROCK: Woo!

  • That's what I'm talking about.

  • That's what I'm talking about.

  • BROCK Hey!

  • I think we did pretty good.

  • You know, morning started off real slow.

  • But we kept our heads high and got us a real big alligator

  • at the end of the day.

  • You know, I'm super happy about it.

  • Ready?

  • BROCK: Oh.

  • It's such a sense of accomplishment.

  • You know, a bunch of 19-year-olds never treble

  • hooking before to come out here and land

  • a big boy like this annd in the fashion that we did, it was--

  • man, it was fun.

  • It was real fun.

  • AARON: Found my new favorite way to catch alligators.
