  • So what does tonkatsu mean

  • Tom means Pig and cutsu the it's short for the English word cutlet Katsuletsu

  • This actually comes from the French word cutlet which means meat chop. So tonkatsu literally means pork chop

  • Back in the late 1800s. The practice of cooking cutlets came to Japan from Europe. And what is Western food called in Japan?

  • Yo Shoku, yo means Western

  • Shoku means food or meal

  • Over time the Japanese made it their owns

  • To start they use a boneless thick cut of pork and instead of pan fry we deep

  • fry it you add flour

  • then dip it in egg and then put panko just coarse bread crumbs over it and then put it in oil and

  • So you grind them right before you put it on your tonkatsu so it's fresh and it smells really good

  • Yeah tonkatsu sauce is actually a brown sauce based on the English Worcestershire shauce xD sauce or Worcestershire *chuckles*

  • Wishy-washy sauce,Worcestershire sauce, whatever close it out
