  • Gary Neville joins us now from the gantry.

  • Gary, if New Know is satisfied, if not happy with that team performance, what well are they gonna soul shall be feeling?

  • I think please.

  • With certain elements of the team's performance, the concentration levels stop the counterattack as many times they could wolf still out so moments that Harry Maguire Lind loved it.

  • Okay, at that thought, Fred was disciplined.

  • Sure, you could see that he was alarmed to Trey O'Ryan the threat of him.

  • So I think there's some parts that I think he'll feel he's doing well, but I think it comes down to maybe risk.

  • And I think with risk would have potentially brought more problems and potentially a wolves goal.

  • But I think ultimately down to quality.

  • You look at that from three in the first half.

  • Marciel James, a matter you look at it in the second half is Marshal James on Pereira.

  • That is well below the standard of the top class teams in Europe.

  • And in this lee your liver pills, cities look at Barcelona's Real Madrid's you look.

  • All the top teams have spent big money over the last five or six years they haven't got from three like that.

  • They've got really top quality players who provide the difference in tight games.

  • Man United's game plan was good.

  • The issue is the quality of the top hat and the pitch is just not where it should be.

  • And obviously, injury plays a part in that Gary.

  • But otherwise, why are Manchester United to have spent money on players lacking quality?

  • The recruitment of the place hasn't been good enough on Dhe.

  • You can go back to file cow, you can go back to De Maria.

  • Other players have signed dip.

  • I was young at the time and naive, but plays it signing four.

  • There was the picture over last 567 years of no lit up this league and you look at what Liverpool have done.

  • You look at what city have done.

  • You taught them in bringing through players Shawn and more more and cane is a far better from three.

  • Then what managed United have even though managed united have spent money.

  • So your recruitment strong and ultimately you end up paying for And I think today the game plan was fined for months united if you were sat up there today with Suarez, Messi and Neymar upfront, you probably play the same way against walls.

  • You just control the game.

  • You wait for that moment and one of the front three would go and deliver for you Munch United don't have that from three of this moment in time that come work in tight areas and then could provide that moment of magic on the struggle against seems you sit deeper, restructure the mineral are organized, decide Gigolo Maybe that would give them a bit more presence if you're putting cross into the box.

  • But you've seen at the end of the game today, Kelly, the big thing is managed united chasing a goal.

  • It nil nil.

  • And he had to bring on Jesse Lingard and Diego Dalo.

  • That tells you exactly where Manus united around.

  • I know they've got a couple of injuries.

  • Pop broom rashford, obviously without to the team today in the quality, but you're always gonna get a couple of injuries of the teams of injuries as well.

  • You say you say Gary, the recruitment been bad.

  • So who do you put that down to?

  • Visit the managers that was spent poorly or is it.

  • Ed Woodward, the owners?

  • What, do you put it down, too?

  • Because that team today cost £458 million.

  • I mean, they certainly thrown money at the problem.

  • No, they've spent a fortune, and I said before the game, It's the second highest wage bill in Europe months United have got.

  • So it's not just about money and throwing money at it, but you're gonna throw at it wisely and get the right players in on, you know, Ultimately, that's the big problem with minus United.

  • I'm not quite sure, actually, who is in charge of recruitment over last seven or eight years?

  • I think managers of other influence, there's no doubt about that.

  • But who is behind the scenes spotting the players, making sure that months united there ahead of the game, getting the likes of sterling but idle Silver Marez plus some of the place we know, some a little less.

  • So you look obviously Liverpool with money and salary with known players for me, no less, obviously from Germany.

  • But you know these players have been available managed.

  • United must have looked at them over last seven or eight years, and other teams have taken those players and months United haven't.

  • And I think there's other occasions where when did Maria signs?

  • For instance, I just thought that was a wonderful signing for United.

  • I thought, Here we go.

  • This is gonna work He looks ideal for this big pitch.

  • Out here is a wide player.

  • We can counterattack.

  • He's got quality.

  • And yet that didn't work.

  • So it's not always been about maybe poor recruitment sometime.

  • It's not getting the best out of the players, but generally, if you look at that game today, just knowing of quality in the final third of the pitch, I think, I think, what what you said.

  • To a certain extent, Gary's like I tried to almost trying too hard trying to sign Harlem Globetrotters rather than being clever in the market, signing young players that you could turn into superstars.

  • Whatever Liverpool good example, has taken 30 years to get to the point, they are now loaded managers, homegrown managers, people that have been idolized at the football club on Now you know the old films, that man mansion tonight, growing fruit going for exactly the same problems that Liverpool did on Dhe.

  • Sometimes you want to throw money at it, but somebody's got to stand still with it.

  • What have we got?

  • We got a build, right.

  • And make sure you get the right manager in place because there's so many questions.

  • That and so many things that are wrong with Manchester United right now.

  • And I look at it and I wrote things down here.

  • I mean, is it the owner?

  • Is it the owners?

  • Is that Edward would?

  • But you look at it, I think how could you make this right?

  • Because they are so far off it.

  • I mean, I felt sorry for magic Night fans, so they came here, they didn't enjoy it.

  • And it was not a place that I mean, actually applauded the fans that the players off today.

  • Gary, we like, really Look at it.

  • It didn't deserve that.

  • I think ultimately what you've seen at the moment is I don't think there were times last year watching the team when I thought there were a group of players on the pitch and three or four of them didn't want to be out there and they looked like there was a lack of urgency and to be honest with the apathy of the shirts.

  • I don't see that out here with this group of players.

  • I see sometimes lack of quality.

  • But I see it honestly to them, and that's important.

  • So I think you are building from maybe a low base when you say things like the most that the players can give is their old.

  • But I think you're right.

  • Over the last seven or eight years, there has been a change in strategy three or four times.

  • I think Louisville Angle signed the type of player.

  • I think I was talking to rub off on our air on the gantry before the game, and we talked about, you know, luv Angle signings.

  • I think there's only two of them left.

  • How many of them were successful?

  • The club?

  • In the end, because the club change strategy, I went with Josie Marino's Complete the opposite end, the scale, philosophy and football and values compared to luv angle.

  • And he went for a more physical type player like by problematic Lukaku.

  • Most of those have it works.

  • So you look at that, then you think locates you.

  • Two great managers in world football have failed with their recruitment strategies in their style of play.

  • So then months three nights have gone to a different style of recruitment, of style, of play on the religion of soul Shy feels like it fits a little bit more with what the club have done.

  • Historically, I think the main thing is now, as you say, standing still or not standing still.

  • But being persistent with the path that you've chosen on saying right, we're on the right path there, this is what we're going to do on.

  • We're going to go with it.

  • You know, young players from the academy, emerging players, British players in the league and then really good young international talent that have got some if you like.

  • Growth in them has been always managed United way of doing things, and it seems like that's what they're doing.

  • But that is a slow, uh, it's a slow burner that one, and United fans have to be patient in terms of what the scene I thought today, part of the performance were good up to the last third.

  • Essentially, way knew what walls were going to do.

  • A new bunch of United would find it difficult.

  • They didn't blink, managed to united in panic.

  • That ain't going to risk too much, but they just need that little bit more quality in the final third.

  • And they're The players are most difficult to find.

  • They cost 200 million.

  • Sometimes, if the obvious ones.

  • And if you're not the obvious ones, then there a risk in terms of whether they'll become that so much.

  • United a tor between spending 200 million on the player are trying to find someone for 30 40 million that might not work.
