  • Biogas Plant.

  • Why do we require anaerobic microorganisms to prepare biogas?

  • Biogas is a gas that consists of around 50-70% methane.

  • This gas is produced from the breakdown of organic and biodegradable matter by microorganisms.

  • Microorganisms can either be aerobic or anaerobic.

  • However, in the production of biogas, anaerobic microorganisms are essential.

  • This is because, only anaerobic microorganisms produce methane which is the most essential component of biogas.

  • Aerobic microorganisms do not produce that much methane as they use most of it themselves.

  • Therefore, for the production of biogas, anaerobic microorganisms are used.
