  • and to be independent learner

  • I'm just you guys along the way

  • but I want to show you how to be a better faster smarter stronger englilsh learner on your own

  • so in this video tip

  • I'm going to let you know my method I Go Natural English

  • how to build your vocabulary

  • to master english vocabulary

  • because really vocabulary is like Umm

  • well I say grammar is like the bone of English

  • and so vocabulary would be the flood

  • is like the leave on the tree

  • or the flower on the garden

  • you need vocabulary in order to express yourself

  • so it 's really important to build your vocabulary

  • and we can't just rely on the one thousand words

  • that you learn in you know in English class

  • in a middle school

  • those are often not even helpful

  • or real word English words

  • so any way

  • Ahh I digress

  • so I wanna tell you the three top tips

  • for leaning vocabulary

  • and this are tips that I develop over years

  • of teaching English

  • as a second language

  • and also leaning languages myself

  • I lean Portuguese Spanish some french some Japanese

  • and a smarter and other languages

  • so I have always look for way to learn languages

  • faster easier and better to be able to communicate in real life

  • and connect with people like you

  • so that is my passion that 's what I'm here to do

  • so let 's start with the top three ways

  • that you can build your vocabulary English

  • so the first when I wrote here

  • Ahh in C R U I can spell a noise acronym CRU

  • Ahh C for connect

  • as soon as you learn a new word or I should say

  • as soon as you read or hear of hear a new word

  • you need to connected

  • in your mind with another word that you already know

  • or could be another idea and could be another sound

  • it could be anything

  • it could be a color

  • it could be an image

  • something that you already know and a familiar with

  • so I often use the example for learning Japanese

  • Umm the word for the bill at the restaurant

  • it 's in OISO

  • Ahh there is confuse some way to say but is one way to say

  • so when I learn this word or I heard it for the first time

  • I connected it with the idea of an eyes sore

  • an eyes sore in English is something that hurt your eyes

  • so I think oh my God when I get the check at the restaurant

  • and I hurt my eyes to look at it because it's so expensive

  • It's just idea there are totally silly

  • they don't have to be completely logical

  • they just have to be enough to connect

  • your new word with something that you already know

  • this is the way that we build connection or pathway

  • actually physically in our brain

  • we build nerve pathway

  • from something we already know to something new

  • that is how we clear the path in the jungle of our brain in order to make it easier

  • and faster to remember new word in English

  • so connect repeat is also very important as soon as you here

  • or you read a new word

  • I want you to repeat it to yourself in your brain and out loud

  • I want you say the word out loud

  • and I don't mean only once

  • I want you repeat this word several several time like a hundred times

  • I'm serious you have to repeat a lot

  • don't think there are some think wrong with you

  • If you can't remember a new word after repeat it once because nobody can

  • I have to repeat probably a hundred times before I remember it

  • so really It takes work

  • and I remember when I was six years old and I had spelling test in Elementary school

  • well how did my father tell me to study for the test he made me sit down and write each spelling word one hundred times

  • and I hate it but you know what it works

  • so repeat

  • tree use it

  • ok use the new word as soon as you can

  • as often as you can

  • doesn't matter if you feel like your over using the word

  • at first you need to use it in order to test the word out

  • and you will be able to guess from other people reaction

  • what are you using the word corectly or not

  • you have to be a little bit observing here

  • but use the word

  • if you have an English speaking friend or colleague

  • use the new word

  • if you don't know any one who speak English

  • well you can always get online and you can find someone online who speak English

  • but let say that you don't have anyone to speak with in English

  • It's kind of commend concern that I here

  • I want you use the word with yourself

  • stop thinking in your native language and I want you to use

  • the new word when you speak to yourself

  • or do you speak in out loud or in your brain

  • I was just telling my students I'm here in Tokyo working with our group of students

  • and I said you know what when you thinking to yourself and we all do that we all talk to ourselves

  • we say Ohh what should I do today

  • you know stop saying it to yourself in Japanese

  • stop your brain same say Ahh don't show KANA

  • or ok we are saying

  • your Spanish speaker or what ever your languages

  • stop stop stop and do it in English

  • what am I going to do today for simple example

  • so start using a new vocabulary and a new phases with yourself

  • you have to use it often and repeat and connect

  • ok and a bonus tip before we finish this quick tip

  • I want you to read a lot in English
