  • Wow!

  • Hi! -I'm so jealous!

  • I'm so jealous that you're in the studio.

  • -This feels great here. It's a party, right?

  • Am I right? [ Cheers and applause ]

  • -I mean, I should have walked out.

  • I should have walked out.

  • -Just cropped -- yeah, into the screen.

  • -Exactly. Like... -Yeah!

  • Look at that! Fantastic!

  • Tracee, this is the first time being on our show,

  • but we've actually -- We met before.

  • Do you remember this? -Yes.

  • If I remember correctly, Jimmy --

  • And I'm not sure I remember this correctly,

  • but I have a terrible memory.

  • A vague memory of you, Patti LaBelle --

  • I should say Patti LaBelle first, you,

  • and, like, somewhere really hot.

  • And we hosted, I think, something together.

  • And I just remember it being so hot

  • that I put too much makeup on my face.

  • I'm not joking. I kept, like, powdering.

  • Those are the things I remember.

  • But now that I'm saying it out loud,

  • it kind of sounds like a dream.

  • -No, it was a salute,

  • an all-star salute to Patti LaBelle.

  • And it was in the Bahamas. -Yes. -Yes!

  • -And it was unbelievable, and I'll never forget it.

  • And I was there, and I don't know if

  • I was supposed to be hosting.

  • I think I just was in the audience.

  • I was a fan of Patti LaBelle.

  • -Oh, so I was hosting. -Yes.

  • And then I came up and I think we either sang a duet

  • or I grabbed the mic from you,

  • and we started doing a bit together, and it was so fun.

  • And you know what it was? -Huh?

  • -We have a -- I think -- Do we have a picture of it?

  • -Do you have a picture? -Oh, my gosh. Babies.

  • -Oh, my God! Oh, no. I'm dead.

  • Look at my face. Look at my makeup.

  • -What are you talking about?

  • -Oh, my...

  • I never want to see that again. [ Both laugh ]

  • -You look gorgeous. What are you talking about?

  • You know what happened?

  • -My skin and my face are two different colors.

  • My body. -Alright, well, look at this.

  • Look -- I'm wearing, like, a tiny tie.

  • I don't know what little tie I had on.

  • I was wearing, like, a child's tie.

  • But I remember Michael McDonald came out,

  • and they sang either "On My Own" or --

  • But then he came out and sang, like, "I Keep Forgettin'".

  • And I was like, "Oh, my gosh. I love that."

  • And then you were next to me, and I got up and I go,

  • "I love how that song -- Michael McDonald

  • doesn't even have to remember the lyrics."

  • -Oh, and you took the mic. I'm remembering.

  • -And the band was still out there.

  • I go, "Hey, can you play, 'I Keep Forgettin''?"

  • So, I was like... ♪♪

  • Yeah. So, then I was like...

  • ♪ I keep forgettin' ♪

  • Babe, I'll never be the same again

  • ♪ I keep forgettin' ♪

  • [ Singing indistinctly ]

  • Yeah. So, we were doing that --

  • -I wish I was with you right now.

  • We could have just gone into it.

  • -But it was great.

  • I'm so happy to see your success.

  • And congrats on everything, buddy.

  • I'm always rooting for you. And thanks for coming on.

  • Obviously, the success with "Black-ish,"

  • but now you're the narrator of "The Runaway Bunny."

  • -So sweet.

  • Yeah, it's that wonderful classic children's book,

  • and HBO was figuring out how to turn it into an animated show.

  • And I thought a great opportunity for me

  • to do something that my nieces and nephews

  • could actually watch.

  • And a sweet story about unconditional love

  • that I was so happy -- And then they asked me

  • to sing the lullaby, which was so exciting for me,

  • and I loved it.

  • -You close it out. You close out the whole special.

  • I love your voice. I've never heard --

  • -You know, I sing a lullaby, Jimmy,

  • 'cause, you know, I'm a singer now.

  • After "The High Note," I'm, you know,

  • an adult-contemporary chart -- I was on the chart.

  • -Don't let it to go your head. -So now I just sing.

  • I sing sometimes. You know what I mean?

  • When I feel like it, I sing. -Yeah.

  • So, all of a sudden, now you're squinting a lot, too.

  • You're like...

  • -Yeah, that's what singers do, Jimmy.

  • You didn't know that? Singers squint.

  • -That's what singers do? Yeah.

  • Well, look at what's happened.

  • I mean, since our debut, I want to say congrats on your own --

  • You have your own hair-product line.

  • -Yes, I do.

  • -That is -- A lot of work goes into that stuff, by the way.

  • -It is, but it's so much fun.

  • So, it was 10 years in the making.

  • It's called Pattern Beauty.

  • It is for curly, coily, and tight textures.

  • And it started out for me because I couldn't find

  • products and wasn't seeing my natural beauty

  • mirrored back to me in the world.

  • And then, when I got on "Girlfriends,"

  • I realized that I was not the only one.

  • There were so many people who were looking for products

  • that actually met their hair where it was

  • and how it grows out of our head.

  • And, so, I tried and tried and tried

  • for 10 years -- 10 years --

  • and, finally, I decided to do it by myself.

  • And it's been the most rewarding thing

  • to be a C.E.O. and founder.

  • You know what? I'm a singer and I'm a C.E.O.

  • I'm both. -Alright, alright, alright.

  • -Singer, C.E.O., alright?

  • Unbelievable, this one.

  • She doesn't stop, this one. -Oh, my goodness.

  • Tracee, hopefully this is not the last time you come on.
