  • -My next guest hosts some of the biggest podcasts

  • on the planet, including "How I Built This"

  • and "Wow in the World."

  • He and his co-host of "Wow in the World,"

  • Mindy Thomas, have released a new book called

  • "Wow in the World: The How and Wow

  • of the Human Body," and it recently became

  • a "New York Times" best-seller.

  • Here is Guy Raz. Guy, welcome back!

  • It is always good to see you.

  • -It is so great to see you.

  • -I want to talk about your new book.

  • But first, how is everything going with "How I Built This"?

  • -It's going amazing.

  • We just launched our new fellowship program.

  • Every year, we bring on fellows

  • for our "How I Built This" summit, which is going to happen

  • virtually this year.

  • Normally, it's in San Francisco. And anybody can come.

  • And we pick early-stage entrepreneurs who want

  • to make the world a better place.

  • And we bring them on and get them involved.

  • This year, we're going to pick 10.

  • They'll be able to pitch their ideas to a group of founders

  • like Jeni of Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream...

  • -Yeah. -...and Eric Ryan,

  • the guy who founded Method,

  • and Tristan Walker, the guy who founded Bevel razors,

  • and we're gonna pick one of these entrepreneurs

  • at the end of our virtual summit,

  • which is happening in May, and we're gonna hand them

  • a $50,000 check to get their businesses started.

  • So we are so excited about this, 'cause we're really, like,

  • you know, doubling down on the whole idea of entrepreneurship.

  • -Holy moly! And now, this is very exciting,

  • but this is your second best-seller.

  • Oh, my gosh. Look at you, bud.

  • I'm so psyched. This is based on your

  • number-one kids podcast, "Wow in the World."

  • Can you tell everyone, first of all,

  • what "Wow in the World" is about?

  • -Four years ago, we launched this podcast,

  • "Wow in the World," which is where

  • me and Mindy take you on a scientific journey.

  • And it's like a cartoon for the ear.

  • So, we go back in time... -That's a good description.

  • -...and we go into outer space,

  • and we flatten a giant pigeon named Reggie.

  • -The show is only getting bigger and bigger.

  • Earlier this year, "Wow in the World"

  • hit 100 million downloads.

  • Congratulations. Can you even believe that?

  • 100 million. -It's totally crazy.

  • It just comes from this joyful place.

  • And Mindy is sort of the creative engine behind it.

  • And I'm sort of like her sidekick on the show.

  • We have so much fun making this.

  • We had so much fun making this book, too.

  • Everything about this book, like, the idea behind it was

  • that we wanted to kind of bring the human body alive.

  • Right? Because we all have this amazing machine,

  • this incredible thing that we all have.

  • -Is there anything that stuck in your brain that you go like,

  • "Yep, I know that now, that fact."

  • -Oh, so much.

  • I mean, like, we learned so much from this book.

  • Like, the blood in our body

  • travels 12,000 miles in a single day.

  • So back and forth from New York to L.A. in a single day.

  • Kids' fingernails grow twice as long as grown-ups.

  • Are you cutting your kids' fingernails all the time?

  • -Of course, yeah.

  • -Yeah, 'cause they grow twice as fast as adult's fingernails.

  • Most people -- like only 1% of people can do this,

  • can lick their elbow.

  • -No.

  • 1 percent? -1 percent.

  • -I heard that you have a human body game

  • that you would like to play with me.

  • -I do. Mindy sent me some questions for you, Jimmy.

  • -Thank you, Mindy. Tell her I said hi.

  • -I will. So, what is the most common eye color in the world?

  • -I mean, I'm gonna say brown.

  • [ Ding! ]

  • -Brown! You got it!

  • More than half the world's population has brown eyes.

  • -Wow! -All right.

  • One for one.

  • The largest muscle in the human body.

  • -Okay, not counting anything on The Rock.

  • Largest muscle on the human body.

  • Is the tongue a muscle or something?

  • No? -No.

  • No. -It's not?

  • What is it?

  • -Gluteus maximus. Our rear end.

  • -Really? The butt? -That's the largest.

  • It's our own anti-gravity muscle.

  • Yeah. -Wow!

  • -Yep. -Fantastic!

  • -All right, this is true or false.

  • True or false -- humans are the only animals with a chin.

  • Is that true or false?

  • -Only animals with a chin?

  • Gosh, I've never even --

  • I mean, my head goes no. But then, wait.

  • Does my dog have a chin?

  • Or is it more shaped like -- I think it's a chin.

  • Then wait. What about other animals?

  • Do they have chins? I'm gonna say yes.

  • Humans are the only animals to have a chin.

  • [ Ding! ]

  • -Yes! Yes!

  • We are the only animal with a protruding chin.

  • And no one knows why, and we don't need it.

  • But we are the only ones.

  • Chimps don't have them. Other primates don't have them.

  • We're the only ones with a chin.

  • So you got it. -Wow!

  • Guy, thank you so much, as always, for being on the show.

  • "Wow in the World: The How and Wow of the Human Body"

  • is available now.

  • Thank you so much for being here, buddy.

  • It's always great to see you. -It's great to see you.
