  • -My next guest is a very accomplished artist,

  • photographer, and cookbook author

  • who now steps in front of the camera,

  • hosting her very own cooking show called

  • "Mary McCartney Serves It Up,"

  • which can be seen now on Discovery+.

  • Here is Mary McCartney! Yes!

  • -Hey! Welcome to "The Tonight Show."

  • Thank you so much for coming on.

  • You look fantastic. It's great to see you.

  • This is -- It's your first time on the show,

  • but we have met before, many times.

  • Pre-pandemic, we've had a couple of great dinners out.

  • -Well, when you came to London, we took you out for dinner.

  • -Yes, that's right. -And then, when I came

  • to New York, and I was doing a photo shoot,

  • you invited me out for that amazing dinner.

  • And you were so brilliant. I've never seen somebody

  • as enthusiastic and happy about food.

  • It was one of the best meals of my life.

  • -I remember exactly what we ate that night.

  • Do you remember?

  • -They had an amazing tomato soup.

  • They had that carrot.

  • -That's exactly what I was gonna bring up!

  • -The carrot tartare. -Carrot tartare!

  • It was insane! It was unbel--

  • Like, I love that you remember that!

  • -Yeah. -I want to get into your show.

  • Are you comfortable being on the other side of the camera,

  • or is it weird? -It's definitely --

  • It's -- I, like, have total appreciation of you.

  • It's completely weird.

  • But also, as a photographer, I'm putting other people at ease

  • all the time, or I'm taking pictures of them

  • and I realize that sometimes it feels like torture.

  • So I thought, when I did the show, I'd be really brave.

  • And I was like so excited to be asked to do the show.

  • 'Cause I've wanted to do a vegetarian cooking show

  • for such a long time.

  • And then we were in lockdown and Discovery+ were like,

  • "Right, we want to commission your first series."

  • So it was such an amazing project for me

  • to be able to focus on in times like these.

  • Because I think people are cooking so much more now.

  • -Yep. -Then looking for

  • meat-free solutions, and, you know,

  • we do meat-free Monday as a family.

  • We promote it.

  • And my target person isn't another vegetarian or vegan.

  • It's a meat reducer. It's somebody that's

  • open-minded and is like, you know,

  • "I want to eat less meat,

  • but I don't quite know what to cook," so...

  • -I love that. -That's what I was taught

  • to do through my parents, and that's what --

  • You know, I want to hold your hand and say,

  • "Look, I'm gonna give you

  • some really easy, simple, tasty solutions.

  • If you want to cook them, I'm your girl."

  • -Yeah, it's a really fun show.

  • When season 2 happens, carrot tartare, let's do it.

  • -You're on my list for season 2. -Let's go.

  • -You can be one of my guests. -Done! I'm in, I'm in!

  • -I'm just thinking what I'm gonna cook for you.

  • Is it right, of all the years I've known you,

  • you have never divulged -- is it true, Jimmy --

  • -Don't even bring this up. -Look at me in the eye.

  • -I can't even. -Look at me in the eye.

  • -I almost can't. -Do you hate mayonnaise?

  • -Yes. -Do you hate mayonnaise?

  • -Yes. -How the -- I mean...

  • I'm so disappointed in you. I'm like --

  • I consider, as a half New Yorker --

  • My mother was a New Yorker.

  • I grew up on deli sandwiches. the base of any sandwich

  • to me is... -Mustard!

  • -...Hellman's. Hellman's vegan.

  • Try that new Hellman's vegan mayo.

  • -Oh, my God. That's exact-- That should be their slogan --

  • "Try it." Because it's so gross

  • that no one would even go near it.

  • Just try it? -I don't know what to say.

  • -It is disgusting to me. It is -- It is --

  • -Jimmy... -It is something --

  • It's the gelatinous -- It's the shape.

  • I don't like any... -It's not.

  • -The tang, the word tang is somehow involved with it.

  • -No, it's not gelatinous. -It's gross.

  • -Oh, my goodness. Okay.

  • When was the last time you tried it?

  • Long time ago. -You know what? People try to --

  • They sneak it into things, and they think that I can't tell.

  • I go, "Yeah, I can -- I'm not a --

  • Don't sneak anything for me." And it's like, "Oh, the corn,

  • it's rolled in mayonnaise --" I go --

  • -I was considering -- I was considering sneaking it on you,

  • but I can see you're a lost cause.

  • Go. Go do your show. I love you anyway.

  • -I love you.

  • I want to show a clip from your show.

  • Here's Mary McCartney, Cameron Diaz, and Nicole Richie

  • in an episode of "Mary McCartney Serves It Up."

  • Take a look.

  • -There's only one thing missing from this brunch.

  • Hang on, hang on. -Yes.

  • -Wait there. I'll be right back.

  • [ Both laugh ]

  • -♪ Doo doo, doooo

  • -So, crack open your rosé, baby.

  • I just do a little bit of however much rosé you'd like.

  • -A little bit of rosé.

  • Just a little dash. [ Laughter ]

  • -Yeah, my morning pour is a little bit more.

  • -[ Laughs ]
