all right so what are you thinking of getting here an alpaca sweater it's alpaca and mourinho
-
we've been climbing up these meandering roads with just amazing views
-
so our first stop in the province of jujuy argentina was the town of purmamarca whose name
-
translates to desert city in the aymara language this is a pretty quiet town lined with adobe
-
buildings ancient algarvo trees a lively market that sets up in the central square and we can't
-
forget the otherworldly rainbow colored mountains that act as a beautiful backdrop
-
well good morning everyone and greetings from the town of purmamarca here in the province of
-
jujuy argentina this is known as the town with the hill of seven colors that looks like a lot
-
more it looks like a little close-up yeah because the whole the whole set of mountains here is uh
-
oh the motorcycles are going by there's like a motorcycle riding club they are all royal
-
enfield okay motorcycle it must be some sort of a club or something british motorcycles in northern
-
argentina imagine that but yeah like we were saying the the mountains here the colors are just
-
spectacular amazing it's a beautiful day it's warm but there is a nice uh breeze and some nice uh
-
gust of wind so what we had to do i had to do i bought myself a new sombrero gringo cup here
-
i wasn't cutting it no i wasn't cutting it it doesn't cover your face the wind blows it
-
constantly away so it's only 250 pesos somewhere bought it how much is that in dollars oh my gosh
-
it's like three something dollars yeah three dollars okay yeah for this it covers your face
-
it has a strap so the wind is not gonna blow it away the colors here i don't know is spectacular
-
yeah it's a seven color mountain it's almost like colors that you wouldn't expect to see in nature
-
on the earth you've got like oranges and lavender and violet and green and yellow oh yeah all right
-
let's keep going let's do it this spot right here is called cerro el borito and it's a super easy
-
climb that you can access from the center of town there's a very small fee of just a few pesos and
-
you get some really great views of the famous hill of seven colors it's well worth the short climb
-
we then made our way to the square known as plaza nuevo de julio to browse the
-
local market where you can get all sorts of textiles pottery and handcrafted goods
-
so these are little candies with honey and coca leaf and apparently it's really good
-
for the altar too tomorrow we're going to be at over 4 thousand meters so we'll be cheering
-
alpaca
-
all right so what are you thinking of getting here an alpaca sweater it's alpaca and mourinho
-
is
-
so
-
bye okay people we are the town square and we found a beauty of a tree over here
-
this is called algarrobo in spanish it's a tree that grows from southern cordova all the way up
-
to the north of the country it's a massive beast over 700 years old so if you have a chance to
-
come to this town it's a little bit hidden out of the regular way just across from the square
-
and right next to the church you don't see many like uh these sizes anymore you know so it's an
-
experience i don't know maybe it's because i love trees and i love anything that has to do with wood
-
and nature but you look at the branches and you just can't believe it nature at its best yeah so
-
come and take a look at this if you're down this way i went shopping in the town square check this
-
out just like all the different colors it's going to keep me warm because we're going to be reaching
-
some pretty high altitudes here over 4 000 meters yeah and it gets windy up there once you start
-
going over the passes plus we have patagonia coming up later and you got one more thing
-
one more thing i already showed you my candy my cocoa honey candy this i think she said is called
-
aguado and it has lots of different uses like you can use it as a tablecloth or as a rug or put it
-
on furniture or wear it as a poncho i should get cold so time to try these candies so they are made
-
eucalyptus of course cocoa and also honey too mm-hmm cocoa less do you think it's cocoa like
-
chocolate coca leaf my friends it's so sweet and sugary i don't really taste anything aside from
-
the sugar you don't get the bitterness of the coca leaf none whatsoever oh good we're going to be
-
consuming a lot of these candies over the next few days i have the feeling i'm having another
-
one and now we're just sitting in front of the the church here in front of the town square the church
-
dates back to 1648 it's made out of adobe no photos allowed inside but we'll show you
-
the exterior so you get an idea of what it's like our visit to purmamarca jujuy argentina was short
-
and sweet because we still had a steep mountain pass to cross we got back in the car and started
-
the drive to salinas grandes a massive salt flat situated between the provinces of huhui and salta
-
well guys a little update from the back of the car here we've been climbing up mountains and hills
-
now for about 40 minutes 30 or 40 minutes it's about 60 kilometers from the town we were visiting
-
is a place called the salinas grandes basically the giant salt flats we've been climbing up
-
these meandering roads with just amazing views like just unbelievable views along the way and
-
it's very serpentine roads we're taking it easy we're sucking on our cocoa candy in the back here
-
and we're trying to acclimatize as best we can to the altitude
-
on the drive over we came across a herd of guanacos they're a close relative of the llama
-
and they kind of blend in with the landscape so we were pretty excited to see them
-
time for another update from the road we have made it to our maximum altitude today four
-
thousand one hundred and seventy meters above sea level here in altos el morado how are you feeling
-
let's hope not like that i mean i'm starting to feel like a pressure on my head and like
-
a heaviness so we just stopped here at a lookout we snapped some photos but there was also a lady
-
selling more coca candy because apparently someone in the back has already almost finished the first
-
pack we had to grab a few more packs for the rest of the day and tomorrow so yeah frankly
-
you feel like crap up here yeah let's put it you know let's take it put it the right way
-
and a lot of people feel worse than others yeah so why because it's so fast you know it's uh
-
you'll never know how how you're going to feel until you experience it yeah and you climb to
-
this altitude some people are i don't know they have a metabolism that is uh it does not affect
-
them as much i'm i'm not i'm not worried but some other ones they it feels like your body turns to
-
rubber yeah and your head is very light-headed you just feel lethargic yeah it's uh it's a very uh
-
ugly sensation let's let's say but on the bright side on the bright side we can already see the
-
salt flats we're only 20 minutes away so it wasn't that long of a journey and we're going down and
-
we're going down we are descending again on the other side of the mountain so things are improving
-
this is salinas grandes a vast white desert of salt that sits at an altitude of 3 450
-
meters above sea level it's a cool place to snap some photos and have fun with optical illusions
-
well guys we have made it to salinas grandes the great salt flats here in jujuy argentina it was a
-
bit of an optical illusion almost like a mirage on approach yeah it looked like water water yeah yeah
-
we could see from the far away from the distance it looked like a lake instead of a salt flat
-
so yeah it's nice here and over there there is a whole bunch of rows of pools where they uh
-
i guess that's where they get the salt from you know the only thing is that you can really feel
-
the sun here you know the the sun rays they hit the salt and they reflect and bounce back
-
and it feels like it's really uh you're cooking cooking here you know
-
bronzing getting some color there are steaks on the barbie you gotta be careful if you come here
-
because uh you could end up roasted the chicken you know yeah
-
also sorry about the abrupt ending to this vlog i accidentally filmed the speaking outro
-
in slow motion classic and then i thought i lost my cell phone so we spent a good chunk
-
of time retracing our steps looking for it in the desert of course it made an appearance in
-
the door panel we had already searched three times so yeah it was a bit of a stressful end
-
to the day but we'll see you in the next video where we'll visit the towns of ukiya and uma
-
and also a high altitude vineyard so see you soon
-
bye
-
you
