  • -Welcome back.

  • I'm talking to Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter

  • about "Bill & Ted Face the Music."

  • Thanks again for being here, guys.

  • Music is obviously such a big part of these films,

  • the soundtrack.

  • I remember "God Gave Rock 'N' Roll."

  • That was like -- I was like, "They kind of did it."

  • -Yeah.

  • -That actually was a really good jam.

  • I loved it, but this soundtrack

  • just got nominated for a Grammy, so congrats.

  • -It did. Lot of work, a lot of -- not by us.

  • A lot of work went into it.

  • -We were the inspiration. -Thank you.

  • Thank you, Jimmy. Thank you.

  • -You take a little credit for it.

  • Yeah, of course, all you.

  • Actually, I was going to ask you about this,

  • 'cause the movie starts with Bill and Ted

  • playing experimental music in a wedding band.

  • And I heard that you guys actually took lessons.

  • Like, you took singing lessons.

  • Keanu, you learned the theremin?

  • -Yeah, we were trying to think of --

  • The film opens up with Missy marrying my brother Deacon.

  • And so we're playing the wedding song,

  • and we figured, what could we play that was kind of like --

  • you know, that would tell the story

  • that we haven't written a song that will save the world,

  • but we're trying. -A lot.

  • -And so we came up with, what if we played theremin.

  • Like, we did this kind of fugue, this masterpiece.

  • And so the instruments that were chosen were a theremin,

  • bagpipes, trumpet -- -Throat singing.

  • -Throat singing. -Percussion.

  • -Percussion. -Yeah.

  • -And so being the actors and thespians that we are,

  • we really wanted to do that. -Yes.

  • Yeah, I learned how to throat sing well enough to fake it

  • but actually trashed my throat pretty good.

  • -Really? -Keanu actually learned --

  • actually learned every instrument he played,

  • including the bagpipes,

  • which was hilarious to watch that happen.

  • -I could play one note on all of these instruments.

  • -I feel like a bagpipe is actually --

  • It only is one note kind of.

  • -It's insanely hard.

  • -Well, I mean, it's all in "A," but it doesn't have to be.

  • I mean, yeah.

  • -I actually did a -- I did a Polar Plunge once in Chicago.

  • The mayor dared me to do the Polar Plunge,

  • and you jumped into Lake Michigan.

  • And so I jumped into Lake Michigan.

  • It was freezing cold. It was beyond --

  • You're under ice and you come back out.

  • And I came out and I heard bagpipes.

  • And I go, "Oh, my gosh, I died."

  • 'Cause I'm assuming that's what Irish people --

  • That's what you hear when you die.

  • You probably just hear bagpipes.

  • -I thought I died a few times

  • when Keanu was playing the bagpipes,

  • come to think of it.

  • -Nice, nice, nice.

  • -And I'm not even Irish, so, I mean, you know.

  • -I want to show everyone a clip.

  • Here are Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter

  • in "Bill & Ted Face the Music."

  • Take a look.

  • -Greetings, my excellent friends.

  • -Do we know you?

  • -I'm Kelly.

  • -Wait, you're Rufus' daughter.

  • -I am.

  • And I've been wanting to meet you my whole life.

  • -It must be very disappointing.

  • -Not at all.

  • We have a problem, gentlemen,

  • potentially a very serious problem.

  • -About the music?

  • -About the music. They just want to talk to you.

  • Hm, hm.

  • -Dude, I got a very bad feeling about this.

  • -It'll be fine, Ted.

  • They totally love us in the future, dude.

  • ♪♪

  • -Whoa. -Whoa.

  • Dude, our dads are totally in trouble.

  • -Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter.
