  • education has always been something that is very, very important to me.

  • It's something in my family that was always stressed and always highlighted.

  • Even my grand parents and great grand parents who came from farming and cattle ranching in the Midwest and in the West of the United States all got college degrees in agricultural and animal husbandry because they knew it was the way that they could improve their situation.

  • And that's why when I look at the education system here, um, it's really a travesty because we are seeing it effectively locked down because of the response to co vid and I have Children that are in school.

  • Right now.

  • I have a teenage daughter, and it's also potentially creating what they're calling a lost generation.

  • And a group of head teachers wrote Boris Johnson, our prime minister, this week, saying that quote schools are being locked down by default on the reason.

  • They said that is because currently in the in England right now, 412,000 students are off school due to the coronavirus, and out of those 355 1000 of them are self isolating because they cannot get access to tests.

  • Imagine that 355,000 students that could be going to school, but they can't go because they can't get access to the test.

  • And if you will look further, it gets even worse because week on week, 50 percent Mawr schools have shut completely because of again this last lack of access to testing.

  • One in 10 schools right now in England are partially closed, and one of the shocking statistics is in secondary schools.

  • It's gone from 82% that are open down to 79% that are open week on week.

  • If that continues, we could be at half capacity before Christmas, and it really alarms me.

  • But on top of all that, it gets even worse because 17% of parents fear sending their kids to school because of Cove it and this all leads toa one big problem, which is this.

  • We are creating a lost generation, and the princess trusted a survey recently of 2016 to 25 year olds, and they found some shocking numbers.

  • 40% of them think they will never have their dream job.

  • 38% have given up on getting the career of their dreams.

  • Um, and those figures go up even higher when you're from poorer communities.

  • So this is something that's close to my heart.

  • It's something that's really important to get my kids in school.

  • My son, Caden is four.

  • I walked him to school every single day.

  • My teenage daughter is constantly worried about her schools being closed, and it's just unacceptable.

  • You know, she missed her G.

  • C S E's last year.

  • She's got a levels toe look forward, and she needs to go back to school.

  • My son, Caden is asking me, Where is school?

  • Where is school?

  • Where is school?

  • We need to provide education for our Children.

  • We need to have a proportionate response to the virus, which means let's get our kids back in school safely.

  • Let's use the science and let's not keep them home when they can safely go to school, which means we need better testing and better tracing system.

  • Next, let's use science to get us those results, but left gets people access to those science, including teachers as well.

  • And finally, we just need better leadership.

  • We need our leaders upfront talking about these things and talking about how we need to invest in our Children to prevent this lost generation again.

  • This topics really, really strong to me.

  • My family comes from a whole line of continuing education and better education as it went throughout the generations.

  • And I'm concerned about the Children here in London and the Children here in the UK And that's why education first is one of my top eight policies as your next mayor of London.

  • I articulate all of the details on our website, but I just want to make sure we get our kids back in school.

  • It's the structure of the day.

  • It also gets our teachers back to work.

  • But we need better testing from our government.

  • We need better communication from our government.

  • We need to stop the campaign of fear.

  • We need to show real leadership and again a proportionate response to the virus.

  • I'm confident we can figure this out together.

  • I'm optimistic for the future, but our current crop politicians, with their vested interests, don't convince me that they know what best to dio.

  • We need new leadership, we need new ideas and again we need toe lead from the front and come up with solutions.

  • I don't wanna hear another lock down.

  • I don't wanna hear another closure.

  • I wanna hear a solution.

  • How we can get people back to work and back to school and remain safe.

  • So leave me your comments below.

  • Tell me what you think.

  • Tell me how you are affected by education.

  • Closing down or not being access.

  • Thio, test that air, keeping your kids out of school.

  • Share this video if it resonates with you.

  • And look, I'm here to be of service.

  • I'm here to listen to you and then serve you as your next mayor of London.

  • I'm looking forward to it.

  • And thank you for the time.

  • Again.
