Hi, I'm Liam. I'm a clinical nurse educator
-
and I'm here to talk to you about the interview process
-
for a nursing support care worker.
-
I will ask you some common interview questions
-
and I recommend that you pause the video after each one
-
and think about how you'd respond.
-
Say your answers out loud as if you were in a real interview process.
-
You can even record yourself on a phone or a webcam
-
so you can watch it back to learn where to improve.
-
I'll finish up by giving you some tips on what I'd expect to hear
-
during a successful interview.
-
Let's get started.
-
What made you choose this as a career?
-
How would you define good work ethics?
-
What is your biggest accomplishment?
-
Can you give me an example of a time that you worked as part of a team?
-
Have you ever had conflict in the workplace?
-
How did you handle it?
-
Do you understand the importance of documentation?
-
Why do we document?
-
Why do you think you will do well in this job?
-
What motivates you to be the best you can be at work?
-
What would you see as a good indicator that you were doing well in the role?
-
Finally, do you have any questions for me?
-
Nursing support care workers in a hospital setting
-
are a real key, essential part of the day to day workings
-
of the clinical environment.
-
and they're a really key part of the multidisciplinary team
-
and it's essential that candidates come along with
-
good work ethics and a positive attitude
-
to deliver safe and effective nursing care.
-
As you prepare for your interview
-
it's essential that you think about some examples that you can provide on the day.
-
You can draw upon some experiences you may have had in a clinical practice setting
-
or you may draw upon some personal experiences.
-
It's essential you provide a structure to your answers
-
and always make sure that you focus on the patient element of the answer.
-
So conflict resolution is a key component of the nursing profession
-
we do face it on most days
-
and...
-
we expect from candidates to demonstrate that they're able to communicate effectively
-
with their peers, their colleagues, patients, staff
-
and family and friends.
-
My tip would be focusing on communication
-
trying to deescalate the situation in a polite, respectful manner
-
in accordance with the organisational values.
-
Documentation is a critical component of being a healthcare practitioner.
-
It's really essential for the relay of communication between each shift
-
and it often allows us to plan and prepare a patient's daily care needs.
-
So effective communication and documentation is an essential skill
-
that the interview panel will often look for.
-
As you prepare for your interview it's really important that you
-
decide what you're going to wear so that you present yourself in a professional manner.
-
Be early. Arrive 15-20 minute prior to the interview
-
and take some time to settle in and calm the nerves.
