  • - Today, Prince William,

  • the future King of England has warned

  • of a mental health catastrophe in this country,

  • if lockdown keeps people from socialising.

  • And this is a man who was very public

  • about his own struggle with depression after his mother,

  • Princess Diana was killed

  • in the car the accident many, many years ago.

  • And he is now concerned about the mental health

  • of our city here in London and of our country.

  • And he should be, because the lockdowns have forced us

  • into a mental health situation that is dire.

  • Male suicide rates are at all time highs in London,

  • highest than ever on record,

  • and out of a survey made of 70,000 Britons during lockdown,

  • one in 10 had suicidal thoughts.

  • And the scary thing about that

  • is if you go into a younger age range

  • from 18 to 24 year olds,

  • that spikes up to 19% are having suicidal thoughts.

  • And if you take people that are unemployed,

  • which is happening as a course of the lockdown,

  • that 10% jumps up to 21% having suicidal thoughts

  • because they're unemployed in these lockdowns

  • and of how could they not be unemployed

  • because the current lockdown right here in London,

  • the tier-two lockdown

  • is a defacto total circuit breaker lockdown,

  • because when you shut down mixing of households

  • in any hospitality venue,

  • you basically have a defacto lockdown,

  • which is what the Mayor of London has lobbied for,

  • has campaigned for, has crusaded for.

  • And I put these mental health issues on his front door.

  • I hold him responsible for the catastrophe

  • and the consequences that we're having in this country

  • with our young people, with our unemployed people,

  • and now Prince William,

  • the future King of this country is saying

  • that we are looking at a mental health catastrophe.

  • We need to take action.

  • We need leadership and we need a proportionate response

  • to the virus.

  • And that means that we take care

  • of the vulnerable people out there, we protect them,

  • but our younger people, those that are able to work,

  • we give them the opportunity to go out

  • and do what they love to do, do what they can do

  • to keep them mentally stable.

  • We also use a science based approach.

  • So why are we locking down our hospitality sectors

  • when they're only responsible

  • for 3.3% of COVID transmissions

  • and they bring 120 billion pounds into this economy,

  • and they employ people

  • that would have less suicidal thoughts

  • if they actually had work right now?

  • But that's not happening,

  • and the government is pushing for more severe lockdowns.

  • Today, Manchester was forced into tier three lockdowns

  • and it's getting worse and worse and worse

  • because this current crop of politicians

  • with their vested interests, and their lobbyists,

  • and what their interest

  • in just getting themselves reelected

  • is putting our mental health in jeopardy.

  • And I'm tired of it.

  • It's concerning to me,

  • it's concerning to many of my friends

  • and many of these young people have been watching my content

  • on "London Real" for nine years.

  • And we've got to do something about this.

  • This is a crucial time, we need leadership,

  • we need decisions, we need to move forward,

  • we need to get this city back to work,

  • we need to put health first,

  • and we need to have a proportional response to the virus

  • and science-based decision making.

  • This is what we need to go forward.

  • And I look forward to finding the solutions.

  • I look forward to working together,

  • all of us and taking London in a new direction.

  • I think we can create the greatest city on the world

  • with the best mental health ever,

  • but we've gotta work together

  • and we've gotta move forward to make this happen.

  • And I'm looking forward to end this catastrophe.

  • I want suicidal thoughts dropping,

  • and I want the mental health to be high in this city

  • and this country, as we move forward

  • into a brand new direction,

  • And I want to do that with you.

  • Please leave your comments below.

  • If you're facing any kind of these feelings,

  • please contact the Samaritans are an incredible group

  • in this country, please reach out for help.

  • I know we can find solutions, leave your comments below,

  • share this video with someone else that's out there,

  • but I am optimistic,

  • and I promised that I pledged to do anything I can

  • to try to help the mental health of this country.

  • We've got lots of great ideas

  • and we're gonna be implementing them over the next weeks

  • and months, because I know we can get through this together,

  • but it needs action,

  • it needs new leadership,

  • and it needs better solutions than what we're getting

  • from this current crop of politicians.

  • Leave your comments below and let's work together

  • and solve this problem, thank you very much.
