  • - So the latest reports show

  • that over one million young Britons

  • are facing a job crisis in the next few weeks.

  • These are 16-to-24-year-olds that aren't currently employed

  • and aren't currently at university

  • that are gonna struggle to find jobs in the next few weeks.

  • We already are looking at a generation

  • that's facing 20% unemployment, and based on a recent study

  • by The Prince's Trust, one in three of our younger people

  • have given up hope of ever finding their dream job.

  • And again, 40% of those people have said it's impossible

  • to achieve the things they wanted to in life.

  • This is, again, an example of the collateral damage

  • that's happening right now as our leaders

  • lock this country down based on no scientific evidence.

  • They are conducting what I see

  • as a disproportionate response to this virus,

  • and it's having real-world implications

  • on our younger generation, which is the future

  • of the city of London and the country of the UK.

  • Again, I cannot overstate the long-term costs

  • of this lockdown.

  • It's gonna come with our mental health.

  • It's gonna come with our physical health

  • as the NHS is taxed, and recently we find out

  • that three million cancer checkups

  • have not been made because of the crisis.

  • All of these things are gonna add up, and we're gonna end up

  • paying for it next year and the year after.

  • We need to stop right now and find better leadership.

  • We need to ask our leaders,

  • why are they making these responses?

  • Where is the science for the Tier 3 lockdown

  • in the north, for the Tier 2 lockdown here?

  • I've been speaking very vocally recently about our friend

  • Nick Whitcomb in Liverpool who has struggled

  • and fought back against the government to keep his gym open

  • because mental health is so important.

  • Suicide for young men is at an all-time high

  • in this country, and yet we seem to just keep having

  • one solution to everything

  • which is lockdown, lockdown, lockdown.

  • It's killing the city of London.

  • These offices are at 13% occupancy.

  • The hospitality sector is effectively shut down

  • in the city of London now on Tier 2.

  • This is having massive implications on our jobs,

  • on the futures of our young people,

  • and it's time that we put a stop to it,

  • and it's time we really demand our leaders

  • to show us the science because we can't find it

  • when it's there.

  • 3.3% of COVID transmissions are happening in hospitality,

  • and yet we've shut the sector down.

  • 1.7% is happening in our gyms,

  • and yet they're shutting those down up in Liverpool.

  • Why, why, why we are not focusing on the economy?

  • And that's why my pledge to you as your next mayor of London

  • is to get London back to work and put health first.

  • These are two of my key policies

  • because it's important that we do both.

  • Again, the economy is the bedrock of why we even exist

  • in this city.

  • It's what gives us our livelihood, our safety,

  • our security, our mental health,

  • our tax dollars for our physical health, it's so important.

  • And health first, we really need to invest in our bodies,

  • in our mindsets to make sure we're resilient and robust

  • and we can handle these crises.

  • We need to talk about this stuff now.

  • We can't wait until winter's over.

  • And I'm very concerned, as I know you are

  • and many people are out there,

  • that our leadership has lost its way.

  • They seem to have strange vested interests

  • that don't align with the citizens,

  • and in my book, that does not fly because the job

  • of our leadership is to serve the citizens,

  • and my job as mayor will be to listen to you

  • and to serve you in any way possible

  • to make the economy better, to make your lives better,

  • your health better, your families better,

  • your communities better.

  • So I appreciate you listening

  • as I put these videos out on a regular basis.

  • Please leave your comments below.

  • Again, my job as your next mayor is to listen to you.

  • Share this video if it resonates with you,

  • and again, if you wanna learn more about my policies

  • and my plans for the nine million citizens

  • in this great city, go to brianformayor.london,

  • and you can learn more with your help.

  • And together, I'm confident we can make the decisions

  • that are gonna make London the world-class city once again.

  • This is one of the greatest places on Earth.

  • We just need great leadership,

  • a focus on the real interest of our citizens,

  • and we're gonna win.

  • I am completely confident.

  • So let's do this together. Thank you very much.
