What generates 120 billion pounds in annual revenue

in the UK, and also employs 3.2 million workers?

Yes, that's the hospitality industry.

It's a massive, massive group of people

that is currently being decimated

by the 10:00 PM curfew all across the UK

that is completely lacking a base in science.

One of the Sage advisors to the Prime Minister,

Professor Graham Medley said

that it was never discussed with him.

The 10:00 PM curfew.

And yet it is crushing our hospitality businesses

that are trying to get back to work,

especially after they Eat Out to help out programme

that was launched a month ago to people back,

and feeling safe in these hospitality venues.

Now the 10:00 PM curfew is shutting

their prime hours of generating revenue.

And it's introducing another curious problem

because the science was never considered.

And that is this.

Everyone leaves the venues at 10:00 PM,

and are gathered in massive crowds on the streets.

So any hope of spacing, social distancing

anything that might prevent the spread of a virus

is being completely multiplied by having all of these people

leaving venues at the exact same time of 10:00 PM.

Again, this shows obviously that there is a complete lack

of a science based approach to making this decision.

And when the Sage committee wasn't consulted,

again it's another government mistake

to cover up the previous mistakes.

Now, the mayor of Manchester is calling out for the science.

Tory, MPS are shouting out where is the science?

And everyone is wondering why are we crippling

our crucial hospitality sector and the economy of Britain

when we're all desperate to get back to work,

of course, in a safe manner.

But this is a disproportionate response

that does not have any evidence of slowing the virus.

But what it is going to do is going to crush

small businesses, over 20,000 small businesses

in the hospitality sector that are hanging on by a thread

that saw a glimmer of light in the past month or two.

And now see their entire winter and spring,

and maybe the rest of their existence disappear

because of this ridiculous 10:00 PM, curfew rule

that's hurting all businesses,

and all industries in this city.

And it's time that we really demand

our leaders to show us the science

in everything they're asking to do.

Everything when it comes to what's going on

with the COVID and the pandemic.

We have not seen a science based approach.

We've seen a complete lack of leadership,

and we've seen a disproportionate response to this virus.

We are penalising business people,

and healthy people in the panic of this virus.

And it's crushing our very economy

which mark my words will lead to massive physical health,

mental health issues, more deaths,

and will cripple this great city of London,

and this great country of Britain.

I'm concerned about this.

is set to disappear forever all the following months

if we continue these draconian measures.

And it's time to say no now.

It's time to come up with science based solutions.

And we need our leaders out in front

speaking with the people in business,

and showing us a way forward.

And that's why I'm trying to talk

to as many business leaders as possible.
