for "Sorry Not Sorry".

So the making of a music video,

actually the idea came up in a conversation

that I was having with Jay-Z, which is pretty cool.

And I played him my first two

contenders for my first single.

It was "Sorry Not Sorry" and "Tell Me You Love Me",

and I didn't know which one to go with.

And he was like, you know what,

when I hear this song I think of you.

I think I saw a video of you online at your house

having a party and you looked like

you were having so much fun.

Everything with your music has always been so heavy.

He's like, why don't you make

the music video really fun too?

I mean, technically, it was a house party.

There just happened to be

a video camera crew there shooting.

♪ Second chance you'll never get ♪

♪ And yeah, I know how bad it must hurt to see me like this ♪

♪ But it gets worse ♪

♪ Wait a minute ♪

We went straight to the director,

I knew I wanted to work with Hannah Lux Davis.

So I went to her, we basically said,

hey, this is what we want.

And then it unfolded, and she put the treatment together,

she brought it to me, I signed off,

called in some of my friends,

and basically just had a really good time.

♪ Tell me how it feel, bet it's such a bitter pill ♪

♪ And yeah, I know ♪

I actually remember that day was really hard for me

because I felt like uncomfortable in some of

the outfits that I had picked out.

And so I ended up just being like, you know what?

I wanna dress more casual.

I just wanna like, this music video is about a party.

Oh my god!

My friends just kissed right there.

And that was hilarious because that had never happened

in our friend circle before.

So that was hilarious.

If you are a mega-fan and you know

who my best friends are, you can point out

some of them in the music video.

And then this, for some reason

I'm in a inflatable hot tub in a house, with bubbles.

Makes no sense, but it looks really (beep) cool.

I just went through my phone book

and texted some people to see if

they wanted to be in the video.

And Wiz is a good friend of mine,

Paris I've known since I was like 15.

So it was dope.

And then Jamie I knew through a mutual friend.

It was hilarious because Paris Hilton

did bring, I think it was like 11 or 12 suitcases

full of clothes just to make a cameo in my music video.

And I didn't even bring that many clothes to pick.

And it was just funny because I think

there was one point in the night where I was like,

how is your outfit more glamorous than mine?

And it was just dope.

♪ Being so bad got me feeling so good ♪

You know, every time you make music

you hope that it does well.

And all you can go off of is the opinions

of your friends and family.

But the most important thing is what you think about it.

And if I like it that's all that matters to me.

And I really loved that song.

It had a special message to me.

It was a message to the haters,

the bullies that bullied me in school back in the day.

And it was just awesome to be able to put that out there.

So I was hoping that it would do well.

You never, obviously, know how well it's gonna do.

But I'm glad that it did that.

Some of my personal favorite music videos

of all time would be, well you know what,

I just watched Harry Styles "Adore You", with the fish.

Oh my god!

And I sent it to my mom, and my mom cried.

It's that cute.

So if you haven't seen it you have to see it.

And then I also, I think you can't ever beat

"Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga,

or "Toxic" by Britney Spears.

Those videos are so iconic.

And just amazing.

Who's inspired me in the past,

always always Christina Aguilera,

Kelly Clarkson, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston.

Power vocalists like that.

And then artists right now that are really inspiring to me,

Rosalia is so dope, she's so sick, love her.

I like Dua Lipa, I love what she's doing.

Her songs are super catchy.

I love an artist name Lolo Zouai,

which she's actually opening for Dua on tour.

And she's a friend of mine, she's super dope.

And so those are just some girls

that I really like right now.

My biggest hope that fans would walk away with

with "Sorry Not Sorry" was I wanted them

to have an anthem for the people that were

putting them down or bullying them.

I went through that when I was younger

and it always left a hole in my heart.

It always left a wound.

And this song was really kinda therapeutic for me

to write because it kinda healed a little bit of that wound.

Putting that message out there saying to the bullies

that bullied me, you don't affect me

and you didn't ruin me, is so powerful.

And I just hope that I can share that message

with other people so they can be inspired

to not be taken down by others as well.
