And now it's time to hear from with a few question and a answers, our champion, Naomi Osaka.
-
Hmm yeah firstly I wanna congratulate Vika.
-
I actually don't wanna put you in more finals, I didn't really enjoy that.
-
Hmm it was a really tough match for me, and yeah it's really inspiring for me because I used to watch you play here when I was younger,
-
so just to have the opportunity to play you is really great, and I learned a lot, so thank you.
-
I wanna thank my team, they are over there somewhere, just for sticking with me, I know the beginning of the year wasn't that great.
-
So just thank you for believing in me.
-
And I wanna thank the WTA, the tournament directors, the tournament organizers, the ball staff, the ground crew, and the US TA for providing a safe environment,
-
and also the sponsors, J.P. Morgan, everyone for making this tournament possible.
-
And I wanna thank all my people, I'm sorry for making it long, I wanna thank all my people at home, my mom, my dad, my sister, thank you, I wouldn't be here without you guys.
-
Naomi, there was a moment right after the match concluded, you crossed over to the other side of the net, and you just lay down on the court.
-
What was running through your mind?
-
Because I always see everyone sort of collapse after match point, but you may injure yourself so I wanted to do it safely.
-
You were the first finalist since 1994 that last 25 who lost the opening set, lost the match.
-
What was the turning point for you in coming back and winning?
-
I mean for me I just thought it would be very embarrassing to lose this in under an hour, so I just have to try as hard as I can, and stop having a really bad attitude.
-
You said from the beginning you had seven matches, seven masks, seven names.
-
What was the message you wanted to send Naomi?
-
Well, what was the message that you got was more the question, I feel like the point is to make people start talking.
-
What were you most gratified about the awareness that you raised?
-
I mean for me I've been inside of the bubble so I'm not really sure what's really going on in outside world,
-
all I can tell is what's going on on social media, and for me I feel like you know the more retweet it gets or... that's so lame but you know the more people talk about it.
-
What are you most proud of about your time here in New York?
-
I think I fought for every match starting with the Cincinatti tournament leading up to here so.
-
Congratulations, the champion of the 2020 US open, Naomi Osaka.
-
Please Naomi lift up your trophy.
