What you see on social media are the highlights of life.
-
But a truly good life is not based on the highlights alone.
-
It's established in life's everyday moments — the moments that no one else sees.
-
Theses moments seem mundane and unimportant to us,
-
but making good choices in these times is the only way to live the good life.
-
The choice is yours.
-
Good morning, Becca. What are you working on here this morning so diligently?
-
Homework, so I don't need to do it afterwards.
-
Read these Kanjis please.
-
I'm the teacher today. You're the teacher today? Anna sensei?
-
Yea for Daddy!
-
Oh! This is not plugged in!
-
Here, go like this. Joey — did you come over to try our piano?
-
Yeah, I think that's why.
-
Oh, very good. OK. He just loves our piano.
-
So Ruth, when's the baking channel start?
-
Well... between baking at the coffee shop, studying in Shinjuku, having 4 kids at home...
-
Daddy! ...and little boys
-
And little boys- hey!
-
I like apple juice! You like apple juice? Oh, OK.
-
Maybe you can get somebody to sponsor you with Apple juice. Yeah really.
-
This is our normal life. It's full of comings and goings, school and work and now in 2020, lots of additional considerations.
-
This year feels like for every step you take forward, you have to take two steps back!
-
I've lived here in Japan for six years without proper rain boots. Well, no more!
-
Here's my purchases today: some rain boots and some rain pants.
-
I am tired of being soaked every time I go out in the rain!
-
So how do you live a good life in the midst of all of this crazyness?
-
Joshua's trying on my rain boots. What did you say? You think it fits?
-
Yeah, I do. Hmm, I'm not so sure.
-
Sarah, welcome home from school! How was it?
-
Good. Good?
-
[Joshua hiccups]
-
What did you do today?
-
Hi camera! Well....
-
Well, I've been on lunch duty.
-
You were on kyushokutoban? What does that mean?
-
You help everyone eat lunch?
-
No.... She helps serve the food.
-
Was that fun? Yeah.
-
Good! Now you're going to play some Minecraft with Big J, huh?
-
A little after-school fun.
-
Oh yeah!
-
So, you got school done, then right to the Coffee Shop...
-
Yep, after the coffee shop, Sarah
-
Back home to be a mommy.
-
That's right! Starting supper already.
-
I'm just going to go pick up the girls so they don't have to walk all the way home in the rain.
-
Well, I found my ladies! And you're not too terribly wet — you did a good job not getting wet, huh?
-
Did such a great job. Now, I'm going to change my socks!
-
You're going to change your socks?
-
What a rainy day! I looked outside and saw that it was raining so much and I was like "I better go get the girls."
-
Uncle Paul has a boo boo on his finger.
-
Uncle Paul!
-
He decided to try to be a kid and went down a slide too fast and fell on his finger.
-
Playing in the rain. Oh, ow!
-
So, did you come over comfort food since you... ....Yeah, I hurt my finger.
-
It's starting to swell. It's not bad yet, thankfully. Hopefully it won't get bad.
-
Get some ice on it. Ah! Get all better! Take the pain!
-
We're making plans for camping. Oh yeah!
-
Some day, when it stops raining again.
-
I need to keep this book?
-
No. If you pick this one — you can pick anyone that you want.
-
Like, pretend I'm you.
-
"I pick this one! Oh, I'm going to keep it!"
-
Hey camera! Aghhhhhhhh!
-
OK, let's play the game, Joshua.
-
Pick only one! OK
-
Keep it!
-
Help Becca and Anna put away all the toys.
-
Let's clean up before dinner.
-
Oh! Looks who's working over here.
-
I need help. You're doing some homework, need some help?
-
It smells good in here, Zoot.
-
This is the yummiest food ever!
-
Rice and chicken tonight. Yum!
-
Hey! Let's see a smile. There, that was a good change.
-
[TV] The championship is on the line. Charity has come so far.
-
[TV show] But Jackie Wood is halfway down the mountain as well and is so close to catching up.
-
Sarah! This is intense!
-
Hey dude, Sarah is watching right now. Leave her alone!
-
She wants to see who's going to win!
-
(Gasps) Oh my goodness Charity! Go on!
-
Oh my goodness!
-
She just can't do it!
-
They're out of gas. They've used all their muscles
-
Ruth, do you have a favorite?
-
She's at the ending, my favorite's winning!
-
Please win! Go go!
-
Go little lady! Go, go, you can do it!
-
She's not giving up. She's not.
-
My girl's slowing down — don't slow down honey child!
-
This is nerve wracking! Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness!!
-
She's got it! She's winning! AHHHHH!
-
Our everyday life is busy with work and school, but we still make time to be together as a family.
-
Things like having dinner together,
-
Watching a favorite show, helping each other with homework,
-
Playing games and doing family devotions together are exercises that continually build the quality of life for any family.
-
The verse of the day!
-
That's right! The verse of the day!
-
Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.
-
So "work at living in peace with everyone" — so what's that? Not fighting, right? Is it being nice?
-
Being nice!
-
As nice as you can, huh? Yeah. As nice as you can.
-
And work at living a holy life, what does that mean? What do you think Anna?
-
Um, a holy life is like believing in God... That's part of it.
-
OK! So this is about peace.
-
Don't be angry, don't fight and stuff.
-
So this is a picture that she wanted to start a fight, but she stopped it, so they were best friends.
-
Awww!
-
This girl - this girl started [the fight] and she was like "Oh, I do not like it..."
-
Look, her heart is broken.
-
So her heart got broken.
-
So please do not fight with your friends!
-
And please be happy and be peaceful.
-
And this is obeying your mommy and — mommy and your daddy.
-
So this mom told her to pick up the dish that was right here
-
And then she obeyed the moment she heart that.
-
And then she went running to get the plate
-
and while she was taking it the mom came and said "Thank you, honey!"
-
I see. And this is OK.
-
And this! She was watching television (Sarah laughs)
-
And then she got too distracted,
-
So she couldn't hear her mom's voice... Oh that happened to us.
-
No! She did hear her mom's voice but she was like "But..."
-
So, the mom said "I told you to do that."
-
But the kid says "But I don't want to do it."
-
And that's not acceptable because if you are holy, like this side, you're going to hear God's voice.
-
So this is OK. This is — done!
-
Very good lesson, very good.
-
Anna sensei is a pretty good teacher, I think!
-
All the homework is done, now we're playing some Minecraft, huh?
-
What are we building today?
-
A Nintendo Switch Doggie.
-
A Nintendo Switch Doggie?
-
It looks like you took over my chair Sarah! Yeah.
-
(Grandma) So are you learning to do your characters in Japanese?
-
Yeah! What's it called in Japanese? What are you learning?
-
It's Hiragana, right?
-
Yeah.
-
I can't see it — it's just going all wiggly wiggly.
-
Oh! Look at that puppy dog!
-
(Grandma) Is that your truck?
-
Bedtime, let's head down!
-
I don't want to.
-
I know you don't want to but it's still bedtime.
-
I love you.
-
Can you go...?
-
Can I have a kiss right here?
-
OK
-
Can I have a kiss right here?
-
Go pee please! Can I have a kiss right here?
-
Sure, you can hug and kiss. OK look at me!
-
I want you to go pee real quick. I'm going to get you your juice, OK?
-
AHHHHHHHHHHHH
-
That worked. Can I have a kiss right here?
