You know we're hustling.
-
We're straight up hustling out here in these streets.
-
So it's time to make a return on all that you've invested.
-
Ayesha Curry here.
-
I'm a wife, mom of three, and an entrepreneur.
-
In building my business, I've learned a lot along the way.
-
So now I'm paying it forward to help
-
encourage, mentor, and motivate other deserving women
-
to take their own companies to the next level.
-
This is "Fempire."
-
Carlissa and Laken are identical twins, who run Worldgirls.
-
I actually found them after they sent dolls to my kids.
-
One doll actually looks just like my daughter.
-
They've created these dolls to diversify and allow
-
young girls to see a reflection of themselves when they play.
-
We need to build their brand awareness to get their name out
-
there, so the whole world knows about them.
-
I mean, it is Worldgirls after all.
-
Get it?
-
OK.
-
But anyway, no worries.
-
We're gonna work on that.
-
They've invested $100,000 on 3,000 dolls,
-
but have only sold about 100.
-
It's time to level up.
-
Bring 'em in.
-
Hello, ladies of Worldgirls.
-
How are you?
-
Nice to meet you.
-
You were number one on our list.
-
Oh, thank you.
-
And so when you got the dolls--
-
Twin sisters from Brooklyn created these dolls.
-
These are so cute.
-
I got it, and I loved it.
-
And my girls loved them so much.
-
So thank you for sending it to me, really.
-
What was your biggest motivation in starting your business?
-
I think number one is really leveling the playing field.
-
And so we came up with the idea in high school.
-
Wow.
-
We were looking at a stack of fashion magazines--
-
saw the same person, the same face, the same story,
-
the same narrative.
-
And we said, something's gotta give.
-
Worldgirls is about bringing girls together, celebrating
-
one another, and having their stories intertwine
-
and interconnect.
-
Very cool.
-
Our first three dolls are the Explorer, the Rebel,
-
and the Scholar.
-
All great traits.
-
We just love women like you, just warrior women--
-
just amazing women, seriously.
-
Thank you.
-
How much have you guys invested into your business?
-
Aside from the $100,000, our blood, our sweat, our tears,
-
our years--
-
everything, basically.
-
Yes.
-
That's the stuff you can't put a number on.
-
And I know sometimes I feel defeated.
-
I have those moments where I-- you really do want to give up.
-
And then something happens, and you keep going.
-
Have you ever had one of those moments
-
where you just feel like, ugh, I want to give up?
-
At every step of the process.
-
Even just-- I don't know if I can talk about--
-
You can talk about anything.
-
I actually visited a toy store, and I was
-
going to look for the buyer.
-
And the associate was, like, I'm sorry.
-
This is actually the worst possible time.
-
She just kept saying this is the worst possible time.
-
I mean, I had a breakdown.
-
I had a breakdown.
-
Oh, no.
-
Because, again, you got another "no."
-
How do you guys keep going through all of the hard times?
-
I mean, it's a blessing and a curse, but we have each other.
-
You guys have, like, twin telepathy?
-
Yeah, I mean, kind of.
-
I love these dolls.
-
But if nobody knows about them--
-
Right.
-
So let me help you out with that.
-
Thank you.
-
Come with me.
-
This is Lauren Auslander.
-
Hey, Lauren.
-
Hi.
-
Hey, Lauren.
-
So Lauren has clients like Jessica Simpson, who
-
has a billion dollar business--
-
Zooey Deschanel, Keke Palmer, just to name a few.
-
So she's going to chat with you guys
-
about how to grow your brand.
-
So the first thing I think you guys always need to think about
-
is, you want to really get to know your audience.
-
Those are the people who are looking for this product
-
already.
-
We know that this doesn't exist in the marketplace.
-
This is unique.
-
So these people are people who are out there thinking,
-
I want something like this.
-
I want to teach my kid about this.
-
I want to teach my students about this.
-
So you want to come up with who those groups are, and then how
-
you can actually get to them.
-
There's so much to learn.
-
The dolls are amazing.
-
The packaging is amazing, the web site's amazing.
-
It's all there.
-
We just need to figure out how to amplify
-
your brand to everyone.
-
Exactly, exactly.
-
Do you guys have any questions for Lauren?
-
I'm a little scared deep down, because it's a lot.
-
You're in a vulnerable position.
-
How do you overcome that fear, essentially?
-
You guys have nothing to be afraid of.
-
No easier said, than done.
-
But there are a hundred "no's" before there's a "yes."
-
You have to have confidence.
-
This is incredible.
-
I think this was so refreshing.
-
100%.
-
We're feeling amazing.
-
You know I really believe in these dolls.
-
So I'm actually going to be putting the dolls in my Holiday
-
Gift Guide.
-
Yes.
-
That's so cool.
-
I think it's going to be so awesome.
-
Ayesha, thank you.
-
Part of having your name out there is actually being there,
-
right?
-
So we've made arrangements with The Toy Association for you
-
to exhibit at the Toy Fair in New York City.
-
The Toy Fair in New York is the largest toy trade
-
show in the northern hemisphere, and they bring together
-
30,000 toy professionals, from around the globe, actually.
-
I know you told me the story about going into that store
-
that one day and feeling really defeated.
-
So we've actually gotten in touch with--
-
that one, not two, not three-- five local toy
-
stores in New York that are interested in carrying
-
your product.
-
It's going to be so good.
-
Don't cry.
-
Oh, my God.
-
Don't cry.
-
This is all good.
-
I want to thank you, Ayesha.
-
They're happy tears right?
-
It's going to be amazing.
-
I feel great.
-
So it's time to make a return on all that you've invested.
-
I want you to pack your bags up, to be on QVC.
-
You guys are going to have the opportunity
-
to sell Worldgirls live on TV!
-
I'm so excited for you!
-
I think you guys need to head out
-
to go call your manufacturer, because things just got real.
-
Ayesha, thank you for everything.
-
You are our number one mother, entrepreneur, inspiration.
-
You have changed our lives, and we will always, always
-
remember and never forget.
-
If I had to place a bet, I would say
-
Worldgirls is going to end up being
-
distributed all over the world.
-
QVC!
-
First of all, you're going to love the doll,
-
but you're going to fall in love with the sisters.
-
Let me tell you what you have left, less than 500
-
left, each, to go around.
-
And then that's it.
-
I just love them.
-
They make me so happy.
-
They're so cute, I die.
